My mom's dog was attacked by an animal arrived at 3pm. Quick triage to a room but spent 4hours in the exam room with a dog dying before my eyes. 1800$ spent to do a surgery and was told to go home and they will call when it's done. 3:30am phone call to my mom that her pup had passed away before they even attempted the surgery and told my mom they were too busy to do it. How is this humane??? This poor pup died in a cage because you were too busy to do what you said you were going to do. What my mom paid ahead of time for you to do. I am shocked that this is the outcome and wished he could have died in her arms if you were just going to neglect him. Very disappointed in this animal hospital and wish I never have to use this place again. Read Less

If I could leave a zero I would. It has taken over a month to finally be able to leave a review without being emotionally upset about the lack of adequate care my dog received at this establishment. I will never go back, they kept my dog over 3 hours and finally prescribed a pain medication and told me to continue to use an old med that my vet prescribed a year ago. She was under extreme distress and continued over the next two days until I was able to have her seen by her Vet Dr. Pesic when he opened up Monday. The over $200 that I was charged was useless and my vet had to inject her with pain meds and antibiotics. As well, as just tossing the meds that they gave, the seriousness of the situation is that 6 weeks later she is still on a series of meds and is starting finally beginning to be her old self. I emailed to request a refund and was spoken to in a cold manner with no resolution, wish I had read the other online reviews before going on a Friday night. NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

My review is not based on the Vet's performance or knowledge . It is regarding their business as an operating emergency hospital . Our dog was in distress and discussed the situation with the clinic on the phone. The discussion was symptoms , duration of symptoms and our name address etc. This was a 15 minute call. It was decided to bring our pet in immediately which involved over 1 hour 15 minute drive. We arrived at the hospital , called and gave the same info again .We were told someone would call us back and they did 35 minutes later. We discussed for an additional 15 minutes the same information given on 2 occasions. We were then told to go to the lobby and pay the estimated bill for the emergency surgical procedure . The bill was over $3000.00 and once paid were told to go back to the car and wait until they are ready to receive our dog. 20 minutes later our dog went into the clinic for the emergency procedure to be done . We returned home to wait to hear how operation went . It took over 90 minutes for our dog to be in surgery. There is a probability that this delay could have caused our dog to become septic and have a ruptured uterus. The operation was successful and we are appreciative to that fact . However , if your going to be an emergency Hospital then operate as an emergency hospital . Based on the geographical area to which you serve there is a considerable shortfall on Veterinarian doctors at that facility and procedural protocols. Vet Techs help but they are not accredited Doctors. When this facility request payments upfront for emergency services then they need to provide such services within a reasonable time . When they determine what is a true emergency and delay any services then they need to change mandate as a emergency services or at least have staff in place. They should model their business charter similar to the Alta Vistas Animal Hospital in Ottawa. Walker Road Animal Hospital needs to implement a Certified Technicians RVT initial assessment of each pet to help triage emergency cases to ensure that the most critical patients are seen first in surgery. Operating as a emergency hospital then will allow you to charge the prices you do. Read Less

Clinic is NOT something I would ever recommend. staff are unkind and unhelpful. Every option is WAY overpriced compared to any other vet, I never felt safe leaving my pet with them, and have heard many horror stories of mistreatment of pets while in their care. PLEASE CARE FOR YOUR ANIMALS AND TAKE THEM ANYWHERE ELSE. I urge you! Even in emergency situations, these people care about nothing but the money they will receive. There are SO many other vets who care about animal welfare! This place is so bad!!!! Read Less

Do NOT spend your money here! Went there with my cat, who had a cyst, thought it was something worse at the time.they scheduled a surgery, I left thinking Id come back in 2 days to have my cats lump removed.I received calls the day after saying first that the surgery would not be to remove it, it would be to have some of the lump taken out to be tested, they'd have to sent it out of Windsor to a lab for examination... and the price would actually be more like 600$ instead of the original 400$another call, with some more bullshit, saying the price would actually increase, 800$ANOTHER CALL, more bullshit, saying the price will actually be more like 1000$.. in the end the final price from the veterinary technician was 1200$I informed my bf about the price change, we never went to the surgery and we didn't get a call back about missing the appointment. We went to the cat clinic, on grand marais a few days later. The vet there checked my cat thoroughly, tried to poke the cyst with a needle, pus came out. given a shot, and some oral medicines, cost less than 200$Cat clinic is closed but that vet is at Lasalle Animal HospitalThe people at Walker Road Animal Hospital are pathetic, they WILL rip you off. Terrible place, don't get me wrong the vet techs working the front desk were kind and friendly, they took our information and asked questions in regards to our sick puppy. The vet on the other hand has no bedside manors, and just cares about the money. The wait time is ridiculous, we waited 45 minutes for the vet to come in and see us while our puppy is shaking, and can barley stand by her self, when he comes in he is rude right out of the gate, starts taking her vitals, does not inform us whether they are good or not, then goes to leave the room to grab the "bill" for our options. The vet comes back 15 minutes later with two bills for two different types of procedures, one being nearly $500 and the other being $1500 all because he thinks our 1 year old puppy is a diabetic. We say we are going to take her to her vet in the morning and wait on making any decision, and he instantly goes to saying that we can't afford it and we need to think of our pet first. Low and behold she goes to her real vet and he determines she ate something and its not digesting and there is a small blockage and reassures us everything is going to be okay, and gives her a couple of shots and some medicine and we are on our way for only $100. Long story short if you have to go there try and get a second opinion before making any decision, they will charge you an arm and a leg there for no reason. Read Less

My dog was experiencing chronic pain so I brought her to Walker Road Animal Hospital hoping to have a simple examination and receive pain medication. My dog is a miniature dachshund who is not very friendly towards strangers. I warned the doctor about this ahead of time. He tried to put a muzzle on her but she kept trying to bite him and he got visibly mad when she did. I told him I would leave the room while he did it so that she would let her guard down (since this is what I usually do at the vet) and he refused to do anything without me in the room. He then went and got his "heavy gloves" and his assistant to try and put the muzzle on. Then, without warning, he proceeded to lunge at my dog and wrap both of his hands around her neck and squeezed as hard as her could. My dog started crying and yelping immediately and she was so scared that she lost control of her bowels all over the table. I was in extreme shock and yelled "Please stop! let go of my dog!" and he did not let go. so I yelled again "Stop! Let go of my dog!" and he finally let go of her. and threw his hands up in the air with frustration. I said "I don't like this at all. Im leaving" and his reply was "okay, bye". This was a VERY shocking and traumatizing experience for me. I was under the impression that vets were trained to know how to deal with dogs that are unfriendly. Most animals are scared at the vet and they act aggressive as a form of protecting themselves. I am not a trained vet but I do know that putting your hands around anyones neck is not the proper etiquette or way of handling the situation. He showed various other forms of unprofessionalism. Such as calling my dog a "he" when she is a "she" (would a human doctor do this?)  He also did not read her medical charts before entering the room and his choice of words were very appalling and rude. He did not show any compassion whatsoever. I am still shaken from this experience and I will unfortunately have these flashbacks in my head forever. Please do not bring your dog here and warn as many people as you can. Read Less

We had an urgent situation when our dog was injured because of another dog bite.  The doctor did not introduce herself, I still don't know her name.  Our dog had surgery, she gave us an estimate, of course the final price came to the higher end of the estimate (2000K).  Did not include the cost of medications in the estimate.  When the sutures were taken out, the doctor (again, did not introduce herself...no way to know her name...) did another procedure without informing us ahead of time.  What can I say... We were on holiday out of the area for about 8 days. We boarded our cats, all three of them, at our regular vet in Forest Glade. All three are rescue/strays and getting on in years. Bruce was an insulin dependent diabetic. On the evening of the 30th, we got some calls about Bruce. He was in a diabetic coma and his kidneys had pretty much shut down and our regular vet transported him to Walker Road to see if there was anything they could do to bring him back. The prognosis was dire. Several missed calls and text messages later we decided that it would be selfish of us to vigorously intervene in order to buy Bruce two or three weeks more time and we made the decision to end his discomfort. We had to call Walker Road after talking with the regular vet so TWO folks at Walker Road would hear the decision directly from us. Note that we were at my nephew's wedding reception when all of this began. We spoke to the requisite two folks at Walker Road and the second person, upon confirming our decision, asked, "How will you be taking care of this and the other expenses incurred? We can do it right away over the phone with a credit card." I was speechless, and my wife asked if this could be taken care of the following morning. The bill was settled up the following morning. Walker Road is an excellent pet care facility and their 24 hour availability has proven handy some years ago. The bedside manner is non-existent: at least that is the take-away from our last interaction. Asking to settle up over the phone when we're three time zones away, just after telling them to euthanize our 14 year-old cat, is completely devoid of compassion. Read Less

A couple of years ago, I had to rush my Rott in due to gastric torsion. Dr.Kaye was the 1/st Vet to examine her. He had smiled at my self diagnosis, but knew I was correct. He gave me a guesstimate for surgery, which I signed without batting an eye. When I was leaving, I approached the reception desk to make a deposit, when I was informed it wasn't necessary. Later, that evening, the clinic called, saying she could go home. When I arrived, Dr. DeLuca told me her stomach had righted itself. He advised me to consider gastroplexy at my regular Vet, so it would not happen again. He also informed me to keep an eye on her blood work, as he was concerned about her reds. We brought our cat here just over a year ago after he was struck by a car. It was midday and it was a Sunday. Right away he was taken to the back and given painkillers. The doctor took us into a private room and asked us permission to take x-rays and run tests. Knowing medical care is expensive, I appreciated this step. We waited some more and he came back to us with the results. He explained to us all the possible next steps and costs associated so we could make an informed. He did not pressure us into making a decision right there. He let us see our kitty before we left him at the hospital for the evening. Staff at the hospital was great too. They forwarded his x-rays to another vet for a second opinion (not that the doctor was not to be trusted, but would you not want a second opinion for your beloved family member?) They even took my phone call late at night because I wanted to check in on my little boy. He was discharged the next day, but they wanted to do some follow up care. It was very comforting knowing that the people at the animal clinic cared for our cat as much as we did. Yes, we waited for about 4 hours at the clinic that Sunday, but if our cat was a human we would have waited hours in the ER too. And yes it was costly (actually, I thought my bill was going to be bigger for all the tests the little guy had done), but don't forget, our human visits to the ER would be too if it weren't for OHIP. Thanks to the emergency care our cat received, he has made a full recovery. Read Less

I've gone here for a few years, not because I was happy with the service, but because ONE of the vets was really nice to my animal. She is now gone but I thought I'd go anyways, because "it's not that bad, right?" Shortly after I got there, someone came in with a tiny cute adorable puppy from Mexico with no shots. Shortly after that two older ladies with a dog clearly in pain from walking. They put us in a room as we were next, and there we waited for over an hour while we could hear the girls in the back ooh'ing and awing over that puppy. The vet came in for two seconds, asked two questions, only for someone to knock on the door and her to run out again for another 20 minutes. In the middle of an exam..... After getting fed up, I left the exam room to ask about the wait, and the poor older dog was STILL in the waiting room. My animals problem might not be a serious one, but leaving an animal unattended for that long who is clearly in pain, is absolutely terrible.... and all to play with an admittedly cute puppy. So frustrated by this complete waste of time. To top it all off the vet was completely clueless to any help she could give my animal. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT.

They'll make up extra problems, lie, and overcharge. Read Less

OK if an emergency, but expensive and they could improve on communication, allow owners to have a say AHEAD of the procedure, not after... Read Less

Read Less

Not a good experience going here. I would just say for anyone having a pet emergency, wait to see your regular vet. It is pretty obvious to me they are just looking to charge you money. Instead, go somewhere else and get your pet the support they need for a reasonable price. This place is very highly overpriced and not all that helpful.

I almost didn't bring my cat here based on the horrible reviews, however it was Saturday afternoon, they were the only place open, and the receptionist for a well-rated clinic referred me. Honestly, I don't understand why so many people seemed upset at the service they received here. All of the staff, from the front desk, to the techs, the the veterinarian, were simply amazing, sensitive, compassionate and friendly.

Read Less
