I went to have my dogs teeth cleaned , told them she had a difficult time eating, and thought that it may be her teeth, even though she had had a cleaning only 3 years earlier. Without really checking her, the vet went to her computer and started tallying up all that it would cost, xrays, anesthesia, and a cardiologist, because I had mentioned to her that she had a slight murmur, she listened to her heart and she deemed it was a 5 on 6 !! I was devastated, that was definitely not good news. The Vet told me without even looking at her teeth that there would be many extractions, that the teeth were in serious need of cleaning, the total was going to be approx 2500$, probably more. She asked if i wanted her to call me while my pet was under anesthetic so they could stop at 2500$ amount, or, did I want them to keep going to remove anymore teeth that they may deem need extracting. That seemed ridiculous to me, my dog is on the table having her teeth cleaned and under anesthetic, and the vet is going to stop to call me,to ask if she should leave bad teeth there after they had reached her estimate. What!! How did that make sense! I paid my bill which was 375$ for the visit, antibiotic and blood tests and went home feeling very unsatisfied. And started to think back on the visit, how the vet had really not looked at her teeth and gums, how on previous visits, which dated back as far back as two years ago i was told her teeth needed a cleaning badly. I told them at that time, how can that be, i had had them cleaned a few months earlier, and she had had 7 extractions. They just said it was a bad job. I began to feel unsure that I wanted them to handle her so i decided to look further into it.Formerly my vet had been at Baker Clinic . Feeling especially worried when they had told me she had a very bad murmur. i went to Baker, and they examined her, I was told her heart murmur was a 2 or 3 at most . She then called in one of her collegues who agreed with her. They checked her teeth and said they were not bad at all, that the pain probably came from swollen throat glands not her teeth. They did say a cleaning was not a bad ide since she was 11 years old sooner was better than later in her life to have them done. and i was told to continue the antibiotic, not as a preventitve for the teeth extractions that may occur, but for her swollen glands.I then asked for an estimate, I was given 800$ plus tax estimate at the most. I am happy to say that a few days after her antibiotics, and before her teeth cleaning she was eating well, i guess the antibiotic that she was given as a prep for the extractions helped her glands. Total for The Baker Clinic Visit with two vets opinions, and a physical 75$.This morning I brought her to bakers for her teeth cleaning and extractions. A Few hours later I was called to go pick her up, one tooth extracted, a thorough cleaning and all for 500$ tax in. 300 plus$ less than their original estimate.Needless to say Montreal vetenary Clinic has lost my pets as patience. Happy to say patient is doing well. Tail wagging and happy to be home! Read Less
