We've been with the Animal Care Veterinary Hospital for over three years now and they've been absolutely amazing throughout it all.
John Comerford in particular is a real credit to the practice with his passionate and gentle, knowledgable approach. On top of that, he is a great listener and really takes the owner's perspectives into account as well. This made us feel very valued as customers and I don't normally leave reviews but I have to make an exception for him.
He's handled our German Shepherd, but more rarely, six of our fancy pet rats, so very well and regarding the latter I would consider him no less than an expert on the species (which can be incredibly difficult to find). We have tried many veterinary practices throughout Cork, including Sunbeam, but they came nowhere close to the quality of service John has provided us with.
I really could not recommend the Animal Care Veterinary Hospital any higher. Read Less

We use this vets on a daily basis as we foster kittens and cats. We find everyone of their staff go above and beyond to help us in anyway they can. They are always only a phonecall away to give us advice and are always accommodating with appointments as a lot of ours would be urgent cases. The staff are so friendly and we always feel safe leaving our foster pets in their care. If you want piece of mind with your pets treatment I cannot recommend John and his staff highly enough. Our cat was well looked after but found the vet a bit pushy when he convinced me to buy the extra shots for her. My own fault for buckling really, but just be prepared!

Our 6 year old cavalier Monty received excellent care at the Animal Care Hospital Douglas. He tore his cruciate ligament and miniscus to the point where his knee was extremely unstable, extremely painful and had developed chronic arthritis. Having explored other recovery methods over a 6 month period we finally got in touch with the Animal Care Hospital in Douglas to explore surgery. Vet surgeon Carl McAuliffe, explained the surgery, aftercare, likely recovery rate etc . Post-surgery when we collected our dog 24 hours later he ran out of surgery in the best condition we had seen him in 6 months. Now 3 months on he is transformed and completely active again and in great condition. The surgery and recovery programme worked perfectly and the only regret we have is that we didn't go for surgery sooner. We had an excellent experience with all staff we dealt with in this animal hospital and would highly recommend them for your pet's needs. Read Less

I want to take the time to alert people in the Cork area to a very dubious Vet hospital in Douglas. While I admit my initial experience was a bad one as our first dog was brought in here as an emergency and died, my opinion on the place is not because of this initial incident. The first indication that the vet at this hospital was a little off was when he broke into a speech about burying animals which is illegal in the middle of me breaking down when I had been alerted my dog had died in his care. A few months went by and we purchased a new dog, which inevitably needed care, when our regular vet was away our dog required immediate care for a respiratory problem common in his breed. On the initial visit I was asked to sign some forms and this included permission to knock out the dog for a medical reason. I said explicitly that he was NOT to be knocked out and also wrote that on the forms left with the vet. Our poor dog had to stay in overnight and when he was better in the afternoon we went to pick him up. I had left a 200 euro deposit the evening prior, and was then hit with a 980 euro bill the following day. ( Thank god for insurance) I really thought this was high and as i scanned the bill I saw that my dog had been anesthetized twice! without my knowledge or permission. I queried this. The vet Carl came out and spoke to me horribly telling me, "My doggie" was going to die and he saved him be grateful. and walked back inside. I was in total shock. I paid the bill and left very angry but happy our dog was ok, which was far more important. The dog needed regular care for months after do while we waited for the insurance to come through he visited several more times for care and met with high bills each time. After waiting 3 months for our insurance to recover this money to us, I called. I found out the forms submitted to them only covered 600 euro. When I called the vet I found out they had double charged me and owed me almost 400 euro. If I never caught it myself I would have been scammed out of a lot of money, i would warn anyone with a pet away from this place. There is something very wrong going on here. Read Less
