My dog Chloe is 13 years old and she doesn’t want to go out anymore so we could not go to our regular vet practice for vaccination, nails cuttings, etc. After a few months of trying to find someone to see her at home I found Patrick. I am very grateful that he came home to see her, give her the vaccine and the spot on solution, check her, cut her nails and help me cut some hair knots behind her years which she would not allow me to do it anymore. I notice a common thread in the poor reviews is the pet owners levels of comfort, not the pets. Patrick is an incredible vet. He is kind and sensitive but he is only interested in the animals. As a conscientious pet owner one should appreciate his concern is what he can do for the animal. If he cannot help you, he will tell you. If you want someone to hold your hand, call a friend, if you want someone to take care of your pet until you can get to your regular vet, call Patrick. Patrick has been our family vet for more than 20 years, and has treated all our many pets (and us) with the utmost kindness and compassion. I would never visit another vet, except for procedures that Patrick cannot facilitate- surgery and xrays or so on. I whole heartedly and unreservedly recommend Patrick. It was Christmas morning when my poodle showed signs of conjunctivitis. We were visiting from England and panicked. I found Patrick via Google and he immediately agreed to see my dog. Thanks to him, Bing enjoyed a clear eyed Christmas and on Stephen's day, Patrick rang up to check how he was. He's clearly an animal lover and not a money grubber like some vets. My poor 14 year old lab Brandi was very unwell last Thursday. We knew she needed to be put to sleep but could not bear to carry her to the vets surgery (which she hated). My regular vet would not do a house visit so we can't thank Patrick enough for calling to the house at 9oc on Friday evening. Patrick and Monica could not do enough for our family. Our GSD Shimba hurt his back and there was nothing we could do. We drove him to a specialist in cork to no avail. Patrick was called and he came to our house with Monica to put our beloved Shimba to sleep on a bank holiday. Patrick was the only vet in the dublin meath area who was willing to come out to our house. I cannot thank them both enough we will forever be grateful. They where fantastic in dealing with our children who where extreamly upset and distressed. Patrick and Monica both relaxed Shimba and he he passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family. A couple of weeks later we received a beautiful sympathy card which was a lovely gesture. We will definitely be using there services again. Read Less

I’m not usually one for reviews but this needs to be posted to help another family so they don’t experience what we did. My dog got knocked down by a car and we called this practice as it was advertised as open after hours. After asking if he was opened he replied “I charge €180” without even asking what we needed him for (we didn’t care the what the price was, we just wanted help and care for our dog). On the way over in the car our dog sadly passed away and soiled herself as she passed. When we arrived and brought our dog in, one of the first thing that he said was “oh she sh*t herself” with a face of disgust. Without even touching our dog he looked at her and said “yeah, she’s dead”, took our details down on a scrap of paper and then advised us of the cost of the visit. As we were sobbing wrapping her back up in her blanket he offered to dispose of her, we replied saying no and said that we wanted to take her home. He then offered “do you want a black bag for her then” as if she was rubbish fit for the bin. My family and I were sobbing and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The complete lack of empathy and compassion was disgusting and made this horrible experience 10 times worse! I understand with this profession you see a lot of death but the complete disregard for a grieving family over the loss of their best friend and family member was beyond shocking. Read Less

My family in distress called the nearest open veterinary service, and not only was his attitude appalling but the way he dealt with a grieving family after not even wanting to bother to check if our dog was alive, was extremely cold and unprofessional. To any family who ever has to go through the devastating loss of a family pet, I wouldn’t even consider picking up the phone. He lacks all of these values that seriously tie down to common decency, while remaining in a profession that requires you to deal with situations like this regularly. My cat appears to be dying and is too sick to bring to the vet so I called Patrick Condren in desperation to get some help - at least something to ease her suffering. I asked if he did house calls and he said he did so I described the stroke like symptoms of my cat and told him she was very distressed and in a lot of pain. He told me (in very slurred speech) that I should wait until my own vet re-opens after the weekend. I repeated that my cat was in a lot of pain and distress and he said he could not help. I asked why and he said (again massively slurred) that he could not help. Apart from being quite clearly pissed, he was also very cold and rude. I told him I didn't understand but he just hung up. He must receive many of these calls from desperate pet owners every weekend. Why is he advertising that he is available and giving false hope to people and wasting their time when their animals may be dying? I looked up Google reviews after I spoke to him and found scores of similar stories, and some shocking descriptions of how he had abused and nearly killed people's pets. It's extraordinary to see despite all these testimonies he is still allowed to practice. It's also very very sad to speak to someone who has so clearly lost complete control over his own life. Avoid at all costs. Had read a few of his bad reviews before calling and gave him the benefit of the doubt. My experience was completely in sync with all of the other disappointed and upset owners. Explained what was wrong with my pet and got told “ I’m busy your going to have to let it all happen naturally” followed by him hanging up the phone. Patrick Condren is an amazing vet. We had to make an emergency call to him weekend before last when our Lurcher JJ became very ill. Patrick was out within the hour and treated JJ straight away first with penicillin injection and gave us a course of antibiotics to give to her. We also needed to hydrate her with dioralyte. She was so poorly that Patrick was unsure if she would last the weekend. Patrick kept in contact regularly to check on JJ and us as we were so upset. Thanks to Patrick, JJ has made a full recovery. I have brought two of my three dogs to see this vet, he could not be more helpful, he followed up on both occasions with telephone calls to see how the dogs were doing. he had to give injections to both of my dogs and has a packet of ham slices which he gives the dog to distract them before he gives the injection, of course, the dogs immediately loved him. I brought my 22 year old cat to this practice on Sunday night after she contracted myiasis / flyblow , a horrendous condition which required her to be put asleep. This turned out to be a protracted and unprofessional euthanasia , which added to her suffering. In comparison to a previous experience I had eight years ago, with the Bluecross, Inchicore, which put her sister to sleep due to cancer, well that was vastly superior experience, with no unnecessary suffering. Summary: 10/10, absolute gent, above and beyond service, kind and extremely caring vet amd everything you could hope for. Full story: One of our pet Gerbils (3 years old) suffers from seizures which masked when he was sick for a couple of days, after which we realised something was really wrong. It was evening before we realised we needed a vet and struggled to find a vet that would be able to treat him as the usual channels recommended/googled admitted they weren't familiar with Gerbils and wouldn't have anything to treat him (as we suspected an ear infection). It was night by the time we found Patrick and he was so warm and understanding and saw us straight away (especially considering it was nearly 11pm by the time we got to him). We got a good impression off him because as we entered a lady was leaving with a kitten in her arms and gushing thank yous to him. When we got into the room Patrick asked us about Bravo (our poorly gerbil) and calmly listened while we told him our thoughts on why we thought he was not well and what we thought was wrong with him. Then he let us hold him as he examined Bravo and came to the same conclusion and proceeded to do everything he could for our little guy. He gave him antibiotic /steriodal eardrops designed for cats and dogs but trailered the dose for him. He also gave him an injection of rodent antibiotic. Then he gave us a bottle of the ear drops to continue his treatment and some more antibiotics to give him orally. It's now two days post the visit and our little guy is well on his way to recovering. Patrick has also give above and beyond service by calling us to ask how Bravo is getting on (he did so yesterday and today) as yesterday we weren't sure if he was truly getting better or not. I would 100% recommend Patrick to anyone for their beloved pet as Gerbils are not the most common pet in Ireland so I can only imagine how good he is with more common animals like cats and dogs. It's also worth noting that he is reasonably priced, Gerbils are not expensive pets but worth the world sentimentally so was delighted when his charge was reasonable to boot. Read Less

EMERGENCY VET ON CALL PATRICK CONDRON (ABACUS VET) Templeougue Road , Terenure. Dublin 6 WARNING:- definitely>>>>>>>> DO NOT USE THIS VET FOR YOU PET!!!! I called this vet to our house on Sat June 1st as our greatly loved Retriever Cross of 15yrs was particularly ill and, as a family we reluctantly agreed it was time to say goodbye to him. Having had pets in our family for 46 yrs, we never encountered a vet with such a rude and uncaring manner. Arriving 30mins early, knocked us a bit with our final preparations. On arriving he was specifically asked by my wife if our pet would feel any discomfort. Patrick assured us he would not at all! His manner was matter of fact and ice cold , with no concern for how difficult this was for us, our feelings or how emotional we all felt. It was a matter of (lets get this over asap), with no empathy whatsoever. I stayed and requested my family to leave to avoid their upset. Giving the first injection to calm/ relax our beautiful pet , he then proceeded to give the second injection. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WILL SHOCK YOU JUST AS MUCH AS IT DID ME!!! Holding my pets paw whilst this Vet tried to get a vein, I was instructed to position my hand in such a position to raise the vein. He was most displeased that I couldn’t get it right! As if this wasn’t bad enough, this so called vet…. DECIDES TO ANSWER HIS MOBILE PHONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS PROCEEDURE) … ABSOLUTLY OUTRAGOUS BEHAVIOUR! Then after 5-6 unsuccessful attempts we switched to the other paw! We began the same format all over again , me being chastised for not getting it right (He’s supposed be the Vet not me!) I would have thought a rubber band on the paw was the answer). After yet again several more unsuccessful attempts, I ask to ensure our Pet is sedated properly and suggest he change the needle ….. once AGAIN HE PROCEEDS TO ANSWER HIS MOBILE (he declines on my request) what sort of person would even consider this action! After further unsuccessful attempts to administer in the heart, he reverts back to his paw , where finally after several attempts manages to give the injection. Why would a qualified Vet have such difficulty and act in this manner . My advice is, do not chose this person if you need a Vet. I will also be filing a report with the Veterinary Council of Ireland on the matter. Read Less

Called the emergency line when my cat was very unwell and vomiting blood one night. The vet had no issues with driving over an hour to treat her, and he came very quickly as well. After two injections and a ten day course of amoxicillin, my cat was completely fine. The vet rang everyday until she had finished her course of antibiotics to make sure she was doing well. Warning to all if your animal is sick please do not use this con man who calls himself a vet . last weekend our Labrador was vomiting and very weak so my son called Abacus vet to the house as we were all worried about the dog . Patrick Con Man Condren the so called vet arrived and after examining the dog he said the dog had contacted a gastric infection and gave him a steroid injection some antibiotics and diora light and said all would be ok and by tomorrow the dog would be back eating and make a recovery charged us 230 euro and left . The following day there was no sign of any improvement whatsoever and the dog got weaker if anything we brought the dog to our local vet Cabra Vet and straight away the dog was taken in put immediately on a drip and had a host of tests done which they kept him for 24 hours . The following day we got a call that our dog had massive tumors and would have to be put asleep as he was to weak to do anything for but certainly not the gastric infection that Mr Patrick Condren Diagnosed and gave us all false hope and into the bargain took our money . I rang Patrick and told him i was not happy with his service or his diagnosis which was totally wrong and informed him that the dog had to be put asleep due to tumors and i asked what was he going to do regarding the 230 payment we paid him for a wrong diagnosis he made . He told me on the phone in a cold voice nothing even though he knew he was wrong . I Personally am taking this man to the small claims court and reporting him to veterinary ireland . My beliefs are he should not be licenced to operate as a vet . Called this vet to see on Sunday after finding a well groomed dog floating around my area, if he would be able to check if he was microchipped. He told me he could check but there would be a charge of 10 to even check if it was chipped, meaning potentially he would charge for releasing information about the owner. Found this to be so rude and cheeky considering all he'd have to do is scan the dog to see if it had a chip. Literally takes two seconds. I went elsewhere to dundrum where there was no charge and the clinic actually took the dog off my hands and returned it to the owner. Poor customer service at this vet. Read Less

My cat, Lucky,  needed immediate attention at 8pm today.  Having googled vets on call on the south side I came across vet Patrick Condren, Terenure.  He told me he could call here or for us to bring Lucky straight over.  We brought Lucky to him where he dealt with the problem very efficiently and effectively.  He was very thorough.  We took Lucky home with us delighted we had her seen to.  As Patrick had to sedate Lucky he said he'd call tomorrow to make sure everything's ok.  While the vet was seeing to Lucky a man phoned about his dog.  Patrick only spoke to him for a minute as the call wasn't urgent. As we were leaving Patrick phoned the dog's owner back to make sure his dog was ok.  All in all a very relaxed approach but very competent.  Very good value for money. Rosaleen and Damian Read Less

I am honestly flabbergasted by all the reviews calling Patrick Condren rude. That has not been my experience at all. Patrick has treated both my dog and cat for years and I have never found him to be anything less than wonderful with animals. He really cares about his patients and always phones up to check how they are doing. My only explanation for why some people seem to have had negative experiences is that Patrick is a little eccentric and that might have been misunderstood. DO NOT use this number in an emergency or full stop. In my opinion he should be struck off!!! Had no choice, had to get emergency veterinary advice at 11.00pm and he was extremely rude and gave the completely wrong and potentially life threatening advice for my cat which had a brain tumor and his organ's were failing. For the sake of your animal do not use this number. I had to phone around after speaking to him as was in shock of his arrogance and bluntness on the phone. I called the number and the man that answered was very abrupt and rude, while I was trying to ask questions about if/how the vet handles rats. Absolutely irresponsible vet. EMERGENCY NO X-RAY, NO ECHOSCOPY I am so disappointed, no I am furious of this vet. Yesterday 11.30 p.m my friends dog was hit by car and ran over.Because of stress and shock we could get only this number.External damage was not seen, we thought that bones could be broken. Vet confirm, that bones are fine. We asked then what about internal bleeding, and he said, that we have to wait for a few days. He did not refer us to any other emergency that has X-Ray or Echoscopy...he just did few injections and gave dose of antibiotics. This cost €120. The dog was in excruciating pain all night. It is impossible to tell. Finally, 5:00 a.m he has gone. R.I.P. He suffered long six hours. My heard is bleeding, it was impossible to hear his cry for help. The next day I called the vet and asked him how much euthanasia costs for a small dog. The answer was €50 with no utilization. Few minutes later the same vet rang me back and offered utilization for free. How dare he? To earn extra € 70 he forced poor doggy suffer all night. He is not a real vet, he just sees euro signs behind every pet. He was able to direct us to another clinic, and to reduce the dog's suffering in long hours, it is not humane from his side.
