As Pete Wedderburn and Andrew Byrne know all too well, I could talk all day about their veterinary practice. But in deference to all others, I will try to be brief. At least brief for me. I should have done this before, but with my last of four Red Setters, crossing three generations, dying at the end of July, I think my mind just drifted away from the topic after a short time, because of the grief. (I believe her life was extended by years, thanks to Pete, for an obscure problem/solution that was missed by others.) Brayvet knew them all, from the grandmother to the mother to the two daughters, spanning two decades. And for me personally, even knowing that this earth offers no place of perfection and each person will have their own experiences, out of all the vets I've come to know and see over the last 30 years, Pete and Andrew far and away earned my greatest trust. More than ten years ago, I moved to County Wexford, so I had good reason to see vets closer to home. Not only convenience of distance - which can be important - but also, in a world in which medicine is certainly not cheap, rural vets tend to be a lot cheaper and even the small animal specialists are a bit less costly (which factor in my circumstances had grown appreciably in importance). Certainly some can be pretty good, unquestionably, but my experiences drove me back to Brayvet, nonetheless, for all that the distance was absurd and the cost difficult. Indeed, by the end of that 20 year relationship, I would ONLY go to Brayvet for anything beyond the most routine needs, like worming tablets or such. For me, Pete and Andrew rank among the best in the world. And predictably, their staff live up to high expectations as well as the professional specialists who travel between different clinics. Even if you're relatively poor, what better to spend money on that your beloved dog or cat or rabbit or lizard or whatever? For my dogs, I had no pride, I would beg borrow or steal, I would make my limitations plain. And to their credit, both Andrew and Pete are willing to say, we don't need to do such a such an test to satisfy professional curiosity when it won't make any difference. I'm a person who gets pissed off with medicine, especially human medicine. But within that parameter, I have absolutely the highest respect possible for Pete Wedderburn and Andrew Byrne. They care about their human clients and they very deeply care for the animals. So, Pete and Andrew, for my dogs especially, I thank you profoundly. (And Mary, I have not forgotten. :) )Read Less
