Staff are great and very friendly. Been here a few times for pup. Reasonably expensive but they all are really. Average prices compared to other vets. They stand out with their friendly staff. However down side is they are a very popular vets and always very busy. Have been twice and both times they were running behind with too many customer and not enough vets. My dog just loves going...its like it's a big social event. Even when she's been unwell, she perks up when we park up and she sees the building and promptly bounces in. Their level of expertise and support as a team is amazing. I can't fault them and am very confident with their treatment of my fur-baby. I feel she's in very safe hands when she goes there. I've had my various dogs pure-breds and rescued, under the care of this fabulous team for roughly 25 years. They have been champions, always ready with options, and have done some amazing things to treat my dogs at times. There's been laughs, and tears but there's nowhere else I'd take my dogs. I just want to say thanks to the team at McMaster and Heap who have looked after us for around 8 years now and have never once dropped the ball, especially Catherine who is nothing short of amazing especially with my cat Milko. Always get great service when I take my two dogs here. They were happy to let me bring my puppy in 30 minutes before closing on a Friday night when he got into the rubbish and ate raw chicken skin. The staff were very friendly and they took great care of my puppy. He left feeling much better. Read Less

3 Sunday's ago my parents bought our wee cat in, Gucci to be put down after being misdiagnosed several times by Avonhead Vets and it was too late :( I didn't come as I was extremely upset but was so happy to hear how kind you were to my parents and Gucci. They appreciate the candle you have in the front for times like these as well as just your teams bed side manner. We were also grateful for the card we recieved shortly after. Best vet practice I've had experience with so far! Very nice and clean place, vets are really friendly and knowledgeable, and some vets knowledgeable in some unusual pets too! Great price for great service! One vet is also very experienced and knowledgeable in small animal surgeries and anesthesia too. our 14 year old pug/Chihuahua bob had cataract surgery in February, after going blind through diabetes. we were recommended to see Steve from our vet in Dunedin. Steve was very professional in our dealings with him, nothing but open and honest. going through with the cataract surgery was the best decision we have ever made. Steve has given our dog back his love of life with full enjoyment and cheekiness. Went to an after hours practice who found nothing specifically wrong with my little dog Kip. Took her to McMaster & Heap and Steve did a thorough and skilled assessment. He deduced that in all likelihood a grass seed had migrated into her head and behind her eye. He operated that afternoon, found the seed, and she is now at home and recovering well.
