We took our baby rabbit, Monkey, to this vet just before 9am on Monday 2nd February. On the previous evening Monkey had become extremely lethargic, off food and water, and couldn't stand. I'd rung the after hours vet who said to monitor Monkey overnight then go to our regular vet first thing in the morning. When my husband arrived at the Mosgiel Vets, the first available time Monkey could be seen was 10am, so he explained Monkeys symptoms then left Monkey in their care as he had to go to work. The vet, Verona, made contact around 12.30pm and had examined Monkey only 10 minutes earlier. When I queried the delay she said she'd only just got around to it and we should have taken Monkey to Scott at Green Island Vets who were more experienced with rabbits. I asked why my husband was not told that when he first bought Monkey in and she said her receptionist 'was not a mind reader' and wouldn't know if the rabbit could be fixed or not. When I said my main concern was that Monkey could have been in pain, or needed urgent treatment yet was in their care for over 3 hours before being seen, including two hours after the scheduled appointment, her response was that 'well he's got a 50% chance of dropping dead this afternoon anyway, because that's just what rabbits do'. Monkey might be 'just a rabbit' to Verona at Mosgiel Vets, but to us Monkey is a member of our family. We ended up picking up Monkey and taking him to the Green Island Vets, who treated ALL of us with professionalism, care and empathy. Monkey is now back to full health and is our happy, sweet natured bunny once again.Read Less
