In my 60 odd years of paying and consulting Vets no problems credit granted etc. I consulted this company. The phone was answered by a woman with a very aggressive stance. she was a vet. My rescue cat who is very abxious due to his former streetlife abandoned in the Otago Uni area was adopted by me from Animal rescue. He was older and had been in loving foster care for some time. Helensborough desexed and Vaxxed him paid by animal Rescue prior to the adoption. So as I live near I chose to consult the, The vet handled him aggressively and he spent 4 nights and 5 days in the hospital there. I took him there in an AIR NZ approved NEW cage as my previous cat was a frequent flyer. The quote I was given for fees doubled on discharge then they wanted to charge me $20 for a script for kai. No go I can purchase the special kai cheaper than there. When I complained about the cage locks missing and handed back to me tied up with gauze bandage The aggro female vet got rough and told me we couldnt come back.Funny that I will when I have time complain to the appropriate authoritys Human rights, race relations conciliator tc as I feel it was racist discrimination The care wasnt that good compared to other vet experiences My advice shop around the Vets elsewhere in Otepoti Dunedin are WAY more user friendly and caring. than this old vet ever will be Plus they employ a Vet nurse at Night this vet only has cameras not good for a seriously ill Cat or dog or any other sentient being. We have found over several visits that our little dog is always treated with the professional and kindly care that we expect. It's important and fair to explain to the the vets and reception staff when phoning for an appointment, exactly what your pet is experiencing and as much information as possible so the appropriate booking for an examination and can be made, and always expect to be able to pay the account or request prior to the visit if a flexible payment plan can be arranged if finance is a problem. As our darling pets can't explain themselves what's troubling them,it's up to us the owners to monitor and provide as much information as possible, and to be patient over the treatment period. Usually I have great experiences with Helensburgh Vets but that was not the case for today's visit. I usually have Lucy and she is just amazing but unfortunately I was booked with someone else who did not offer the same friendly and kind service. On arrival, the lady who my appointment was for was very cold and a bit rude I felt quite uncomfortable. I had two cats booked in but she questioned why I had brought two and said "I don't think I have time for this" which put me in a really awkward situation. Once the appointment was done it ended up being a very expensive one! Due to COVID-19 financial stress, I was not in the right financial state to pay it full out. So as I had done only 2 weeks ago for another pet I asked to please pay online the following Tuesday. She then rudely told me this was not possible as she had told me the price at the start of the appointment so I must pay in full. This was true but I was unaware I was expected to pay a bill like $400 straight up. She made me feel extremely uncomfortable so I had no choice but to use all the money I had left for this week and pay up. Due to her bad service and no understanding whatsoever for those affected financially at the moment I am financially struggling for this week. Will never book again unless Lucy is the vet I am booked with. Read Less
