I went to adopt a cat from SPCA last week. The catteries were full of birthday party children and animals were sick of people. Interactions were almost impossible. After hanging around long enough to get some privacy, we finally found a cat we liked and took her home assured she was healthy and ready to go. Two days later out whole house was vomited over and we took her back for a check up and found she had worms bad enough to show in her vomit. We have two small children who had a lot of contact with her and now we are frantically steaming the house to kill larvae. For those eager to say we take things out of proportions do research what roundworms can do to children and how long they hang around in the house. I trusted SPCA and I am badly disappointed.Read Less

LOVE SPCA ALL AROUND NZ! I am very dissapointed about how some people complain about lack of communication. Seriously, try to do this job. There are so many cats, lots of dogs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals. It takes so much time just to feed them all, clean their cages, heal their wounds, give them a little love... It's just impossible to reply to every email, and give notice to every person that brings a cat or dog in on time. Please, try it yourself. Apply for a volunteer position, and see what it takes, every day, every week, every month, every year... until people realize animals are not things! I want to say big THANK YOU for everyone who work or volunteer there. you all are just amazing people :) And even if you cannot save them all, it doesn't mean that you are doing a bad job. Keep going, save lives, give love, and don't let the complaining people let you down. I know how much you do every day, and it's still very important! YOU ARE AWESOME! from Hana, vetcare team volunteer :)Read Less

Words can't explain how much the employees and volunteers at the Wellington SPCA love and respect the animals in their care. Whenever I was at the Dog House I was surrounded by volunteers who genuinely care so much about these dogs that they take time out of their days to come in and get down on their hands and knees to make the animals' rooms a clean place to live. The employees in charge of the dog house always have the dog's best interest whenever making any decisions about them. As I read through the other reviews on this page with the occasional unfortunate experience, I am sad to think that can affect the spca's legacy. This is an amazing place with amazing people who do AMAZING THINGS! They give animals in need medical care, food and a place to live that they wouldn't have otherwise. I love the Wellington spca and I'll always support for them supporting animals.Read Less
