My family and I would like to thank Dr Pagden of Parklands Veterinary Clinic for the care, dedication and for going beyond the call of duty in helping our Spiky with his ailments during an operation he performed. His duty to care is exceptional and he proceeded with caution – not to make our Spiky feel anxious and prepared him well before the operation. Thank you Dr Pagden, for giving us relief knowing that our Spiky is not suffering and he is back at home in his comfort zone. Your guidance with Spiky’s diet and your knowledge of the animal kingdom is remarkable and hugely appreciated.

Cat had abcess from septic bite wound, vet quoted R5000-6000 to clean & dress wound and give antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injections. I opted for injections only (at R1350) and was advised to clean wound only with Dettol (diluted 1/10, pretty concentrated!) and when I suggested tea-tree oil vet said it might cause problems. Used tea-tree oil anyways. Took my cat to her usual vet this morning, cost under R2000 for everything. Usual vet was horrified by Dettol suggestion confirming it is toxic to cats!!! Tea-tree can be used safely. Had I followed Parklands Vet's advise I would have poisoned my cat! _Parkland's Vet is clearly incompetent and should be barred from practice. Read Less

Stay away from this Vet. I took my dog there after a late night car accident under the impression that it was a suitable 24 hour veterinary hospital. He told me it had a broken pelvis (he didn't want to do x-rays straight away) and that it would potentially cost me R60 000 for surgery, he put the dog on a drip and charged me R3000 basically for pain killers. He said the dog needed to stay overnight and that he would take x-rays later. After soon realising the next morning that things weren't right, I then took my dog to a different vet just down the road where x-rays revealed not a broken bone in its body. I was furious. I am busying complaining to the Veterinary Council as well about this Vet on Well Ave. Read Less

When my cat came home after being hit in the face by an oncoming car, and there was no one else to turn to, we rushed over to Parklands Veterinary Clinic. We were assist by the vet immediately. The vet could see how distraught I was and therefore personally phoned me every day, sometimes multiple times, to let me know how my kitty was holding up and when I could come to visit. They also performed a spectacular operation on him, to restore his beautiful face and save his eye. I will be forever grateful. And I could see my kitty really grew attached to the staff their too. **QUICK ADD TO MY REVIEW BELOW** There's a MUCH BETTER after-hours vet about 200 meters down the road from this one. Highly recommend taking your pets there instead: Parktown North Veterinary Hospital, across from Circa Gallery. Just in case, you know, you prefer a vet who won't accuse to you of having tried to poison your own dog...
Horrible experience. Cold, uncaring vet with no regard for the feelings of you or your animal. I felt very nervous about leaving my dog with him. But he clearly knows that owners have little choice -- they're desperate for treatment and will do (and pay) whatever he asks. The dog was OK in the end (he had swallowed a bit of rat poison) and I'm thankful for that, but still feel very put off by how callous and unfriendly this vet and his assistant were. Read Less

Got brilliant care and service at a 24 hour vet not even 300 m from this poorly managed place. Not worth the one star. He took all of a min to “diagnose” my baby and immediately starts throwing Phenomenal costs at me without any tests to prove the condition. Arrived here after hours as our cat was weak. We had such a terrible experience from the arrogant Dr. Pragdin. He is pessimistic and exploits worried pet owners just to get money encouraging you to put your pet on drips for R6000 (I was horrified to read that this happens to everyone, regardless of diagnosis - see HelloPeter reviews). I had to ask Dr. Pragdin for a diagnosis as he was so busy selling the drips he forgot to diagnose our cat who has gastro. Dr. Pragdin claims antibiotics wouldn't work even though it has in the past. We will be visiting our usual vet tomorrow for a proper examination. Avoid this vet at all costs! You are paying exorbitant amounts for absolutely nothing. Read Less
