Have been dissatisfied for a few years with Highcroft. My local clinic was Brislington but it's always impossible to get an appointment, so have had to go up to Whitchurch. Disappointing final visit to Highcroft. Took my rat in to be put to sleep. He was over 2 years old and had laboured breathing and I knew it was the end. The nurse took him away and told me not too worry as she'll bring him back. She didn't. I never saw him again. I was very upset but had to endure a 10 minute lecture by the vet on his weight/diet! I've moved away from Bristol now so I'm glad I don't have to go back! Read Less

Took my cat here because of a possible fur ball or possible foreign object, after he said £700 to have an senior ultrasound, then another £300 or could go up to £2000 I quite rightly said no wonder vets make so much money, obviously a vet doesn't earn all of the above but because I didn't say veterinary practice he said 'I'm actually quite offended by what you said', my response was 'really, everyone knows vets charge excessively' he said you have no idea what I earn, i was shocked at his response and said obviously I mean veterinary practices, he said that's not what you said and he was breathing heavily when he said it, I felt quite scared! As a customer I am offended as I have spent thousands at this vets. Never, ever, ever am I, or my family going to Highcroft again. Extortionate prices, rude staff. My cat I had to have put down they failed to put her to sleep correctly at my home on first attempt, cat was squealing because the vet failed to take note 4 times by me that the vein will blow, she went ahead and it blew my cats vein. I was in pieces and I quite rightly only paid £75 instead of £150. They sent me a statement of the outstanding amount, which because they left my cat in pain, i will never ever pay. Visited here at a very stressful and upsetting time for me. Staff could not have been kinder or more patient. Reception staff provided us with tea and kept us updated. The vet Tam was lovely, very kind, patient and understanding and explained everything fully but very clearly. For the care and diagnostics carried out I do not think they are expensive. We've used Highcroft for twenty years. They've looked after the six dogs we've had during that time with unfailing care and compassion and we recommend them without reservation. We even received a card a few years ago from a vet who had heard that we'd said goodbye to an elderly dog she'd seen regularly over the years - thanks Isabel! But last month they exceeded themselves when looking after our very poorly dog after he got heatstroke. The level of attention he got was amazing, and the twice-daily phone calls updating us on his progress were invaluable. One member of staff even brought their own dog in at midnight to provide blood for a transfusion, and this was the turning point for his eventual recovery. Kerry and the rest of the Wells Road staff from reception onwards were amazing and everyone there seemed to know our dog by the time he was discharged. I should also say they worked hard to keep down the costs of what was an extended stay without compromising their standards of care. We are proud to have Highcroft looking after our dogs. Read Less

Very good vets. I have only ever used these vets and have never had any problems.. staff are all friendly and they have vets trained in all types of care there. Not the cheapest place about but you do get what you pay for and I feel they are worth it for the care my pets get when they are there. Read Less

I was very worried about my sick puppy, I was seen very promptly by a wonderful vet, who instantly put my mind at rest and assured me my little one was okay. The whole experience was really good. From getting the appointment to leaving. 5* vets Read Less

I've been a client of Highcroft for over 15 years and would not dream of going anywhere else. Their depth of compassion and care combined with an outstanding level of technical proficiency and professionalism provides me with 100% peace of mind that my animals receive the standard of care that we humans can only dream of!!! Absolutely amazing service, my 10 week old puppy became ill and within 5 minutes on the phone they had her in and seen to her straight away, they kept us updated all through the night to put our minds at ease, I can't thank the 3 shifts of vets and vet nurses enough for all your support and looking after my baby like she was your own. Bella is now home and back to her normal develish ways. I would highly recommend anyone to sign up to Highcroft the after care is also amazing they give you written instructions on what you need to do. Read Less

I can't get over the amazing groundbreaking treatment my cat received here. She would have had to have been put to sleep 10 months ago due to a rare cancer... but he performed a procedure (first known in the world) and here she is still strong and fighting. It's likely to get her eventually as her last batch of CT scans weren't great. But of course highcroft vets recommended "palliative care" and she's doing great so far! After being referred to Highcroft Veterinary Group. (Due to our local vets being out of hours over the Christmas period.) I was very shocked, and disappointed at the level of care and lac of communication we received from veterinary nurses and accounts department. To be a true 24 hour vets practice, they need to be better staffed in both departments. Formal letter of complaint has been issued. Read Less

Fantastic vets! We had been to a vet before going to Highcroft, who had advised that the best option for our dog was to put him to sleep. Highcroft saved his life and provided exceptional care - he is now feeling much more like himself. Had an emergency appointment today (Sunday) with my cat. Friendly staff situation dealt with quickly out the back with the help of a nurse. Soon on our way with a course of antibiotics. As per all other visits, couldn't fault them! Read Less

I really can't speak highly enough of the team at Highcroft (Wells Road).  The service received when we've taken our dog to this clinic for a variety of treatments - from surgery to preparing to ship him to the USA - has been second to none.  Everyone has always been amazingly friendly and they clearly understand that a pet is not a mere animal, but an important part of the family.I note that some of the other reviews make comment about the costs associated with treatment, but my own view is that one is paying for a high level of private health care for one's beloved pet and the level of service is more than apposite to the treatment.  Besides, a prudent owner has pet insurance to take care of this worry.Having relocated this week to the USA, I can only hope we find a vet clinic here that is half as great as Highcroft. Personal and friendly service. Staff are excellent and provide a high level of care. Have gone above and beyond for me on my last few visits. They also have a vet who specialises in small furries including guinea pigs. Which is great as not a lot of surgeries have that. My guinea pigs were always recieved the best treatment and care and I have never been made to feel a bad pet mum when I have brought them in with silly queries (they were my first guineas and as rescues were neglected and needed specialist attention) Read Less

What fantastic service once again given by our vets Highcroft. On Good Friday our dog became very ill, vomiting constantly, not even able to keep water down. Fearing a blockage, we rang the vets and were told to bring her straight in. After an examination and x rays she was put on a drip for rehydration. Once the vet was happy we were aloud to bring her home but returned the next morning so that she could be check over again. We are pleased to say that it was nothing serious this time but thank goodness that our vet is open 24 hours 7 days a week just in case it was . Read Less

Highcroft is a reliable but relatively expensive vets in the Whitchurch area, catering for all smaller domestic animals such as hamsters, rabbits and budgies, right through to cats and dogs. There's also a vet who has specialist expertise in exotic animals, for anyone out there who owns snakes, lizards and the like.Most of the vets there seem to be quite young, and pretty friendly - although I've never seen the same vet twice! The service I've received has always been good and I've gone away feeling happy that I've received good advice - although my pockets are always a lot lighter, too.On top of the usual services most vets offer, such as vaccinations and consultations about specific health issues, Highcroft also has a free 24-hour advice line manned by a trained veterinary nurse, which is reassuring if you're worried about your pet outside of the usual office hours. I discovered one night that my hound had got her teeth into some chocolate, which can be poisonous in large quantities, so I rang up and the lady who I spoke to was great. They can help you decide whether to wait until the morning to see a vet, or opt for emergency (expensive!) treatment.Next to the reception area you can pick up pet care leaflets and browse the small shop area, which sells specialist pet foods and other pet care products such as dog shampoos, cat collars, leads, and so on - as well as those grim pigs' ears that my dog always heads straight for.Overall I would recommend this vet. Despite being more expensive than many others for consultations and some treatments, I do think the service is good and I do trust them to dish out good advice. Read Less

One of the few things Wick Road has going for it is its pet services.  Just across from the Diamond Pet and Tack Shop, Highcroft Veterinary Group is another establishment dedicated to pet welfare.  Providing consultations, vaccinations, pet foods and pet care products, this vetinary shop caters for a range of pet needs.  You can also pick up a variety of pet information pamphlets, including important advice on how to detect signs of illness in your pet and how to sustain their health.  In terms of fees, you can expect to pay standard veterinary rates.  Food, however, is cheaper and more varied in the pet shop across the road.
