We decided to take our 11year old dog to Rowe in Thornbury after recently moving to the town, and after reading reviews. However, I really wish we had chosen an alternative practice after our experience.
Shortly after his first check up and throughout lockdown, our dog began to look bloated - almost like he was pregnant. We took him back for a check up but owing to C19 had to drop him off and collect after the examination.
He walked in fine but came out lame in his back leg. The vet didn't say anything had happened so I didn't think anything of it. However, after a week of not getting better, I decided to call to enquire. They said they assumed that he had arrived lame. How can a vetinerary practice not have procedures to recognise that an animal arrives and leaves in a different state?!
It was particularly up setting as our dog had diagnosed with a terminal liver tumour, and given only weeks to live. Whilst a free check up was provided, no explanation of how it happened was ever provided.
Ultimately, because of this lameness, we never got to properly walk our beloved pooch before we had to say goodbye. Rowe took that from us.
We also had issues of communication when trying to book in for our dog to be euthanized - the hardest call I've ever had to make. However we ended up having to make an emergency appointment before being able to book.
Very upsettingly, Rowe didn't recognise the upsetting nature of the event and didnt think we would be too upset to think of every small thing and it transpire they send our pooch for cremation with his collar - which we wanted returned.
I have to say that, having raised our grievenses with Rowe we have received a very unacceptable corporate response, clearing themselves of any responsibility.
If you want a caring, compassionate vets that can look after you through the most distressing parts of pet ownership, these guys are not for you.
We shall not be using again. They have made the loss of our pet so much harder to deal with. Read Less

I have taken my very nervous springer spaniel in a couple of times and everyone has been very lovely to her and help her get over her anxiousness. They appear to genuinely love animals and care. She was showered with treats and ear rubs and as a result is much happier visiting the vets. This is a huge contrast to the reception we got at the vets we used to go to in Bristol.
I recently have spent quite a bit of time there with our rabbit (with two very young children in tow!) Although the end result was sadly the end of the rabbit the whole experience was otherwise great. Excellent vetinary care and all the nurses and reception staff could not have been more helpful and caring. They even gave my toddler a chocolate biscuit after she dropped her snacks on the floor on the way in! Thank you to Briony and all the team. Read Less

I had to have my beautiful collie x lab Meg put to sleep and took her to Rowe vets at Thornbury .
I have to say I was a total wreck but all of the staff were amazing . Vet beds were put on the floor for Meg and she was swamped with love and cuddles from the two care assistants. Meg was chilled out and I think she thought she had gone to visit friends as the whole atmosphere was peaceful and calm.
The vet that examined Meg and ultimately put her to sleep was Briony Wiggans.
At no time did Briony hurry me or try to sway me on one of the biggest decisions of my life , however she gave me her honest and professional advice which gave me clarity on what to do without being pressurised.
Megs passing happened peacefully with no fear or pain and she was calm to the end ,I believe the atmosphere helped her relax which made the whole procedure easier.
I will never be able to praise the staff enough for not only the professionalism they showed but also the obvious love they all have for animals.
