My cat was taken here after a fatal road accident. We went to see her to say our goodbyes and were treated with respect and kindness by Georgina one of the nurses. She tidied her up before bringing her in and gave us time alone with her. We asked if she could let us have a clipping of our cat's fur as a keepsake...not only did she provide this but also took a paw print from her...a very thoughtful gesture and one we both appreciated very much. I have nothing but admiration for the way we were handled during a highly sensitive and painful time. Read Less

We were referred to Scott Veterinary Clinic who we were told were rabbit specialists by our local vet, after my girlfriends 6 year old rabbit Bugsy suddenly stopped using his front right leg/paw and was dragging it on the ground, the local vet prescribed pain and anti-inflammatory medication, advised us to restrict his activity for a few days and took x-rays of both legs which found nothing. He was showing no signs of improvement after a week so we were advised to make an appointment at Scott’s. It was a 20 mile journey to get there with an unwell rabbit that doesn’t like travelling. We had an appointment on Friday 19th January 2018 for 6:30PM but weren’t actually seen until 6:50PM. We were told they had requested copies of the x-rays from our local vets but they hadn’t received them. Bugsy was physically examined by the vet regardless and he suspected a fractured shoulder, the options given were a CT scan, to investigate further for around £150, a straight amputation of the leg without the CT scan for around £600-£800 (or nearly £1000 to do both if proved necessary). We were also advised this scan/treatment would need to take place in Cambridge which is 45 miles from us, or the other option was putting Bugsy to sleep for around £55 which could be done at the practice. We were shocked at both the costs (bearing in mind over £150 already spent at our local vet on medication and x-rays) and the suggestion to put him to sleep, given that Bugsy had been eating, drinking and defecating normally and hadn’t shown any signs of being in severe pain which we made clear to the vet at our appointment. We left with Bugsy agreeing to think about our next steps. After the consultation my girlfriend was charged £70, when she questioned this she was told it was £70 because the appointment was a referral, when she pointed out she had been told £38.60 (consultation fee) at the time the appointment was made the receptionist spoke to a senior partner and they agreed to only charge the £38.60 price. There is no way we would allow Bugsy to be put to sleep unless we knew he was in pain and was suffering. We spoke to friends and other people with veterinary knowledge (wishing we’d have done this first!) who suggested bringing him indoors as he normally lives outside. Putting him in a much more limited enclosure and monitoring him for a few weeks. He also had grazes on the affected leg where he had been dragging it on the ground and from over grooming. It was suggested to clean these grazes daily with a mild saline solution to stop infection and to help them heal. He is now putting weight on the injured leg, the grazes have now fully healed and he is walking & running normally on all 4 legs. Personality wise he couldn’t be a happier rabbit!. We’ve been advised not to put him back outdoors in his free running environment until the weather gets milder as the drastic temperature change would be harmful to him but we let him roam free in an area of the house daily. All this advice was given for FREE and appears to have really helped him recover, yet neither our local vet nor Scott’s suggested taking any of these steps!. While Scott’s isn’t solely to blame we don’t feel the experience here was acceptable and we’ve put Bugsy through the trauma of being in a confined box for a 20 mile car journey and effectively spent hard earned money for nothing. Had we taken the suggested ‘options’ by this practice he could have lost the leg, died during the anaesthetic or been put to sleep totally unnecessarily! I am of strong opinion that the balance is tipped far too much towards financial gain over animal welfare at this practice for these reasons. If anyone reading this review takes their pets here I would strongly advise getting further opinions elsewhere before making any decisions with regards to treatments!. The sole positive I can give is that the vet we saw and the staff were very polite and friendly but after this experience we wouldn’t return here with Bugsy or any future pets. Read Less

Read Less
