DO NOT ATTEND THIS VETS. They are liable for me having to put my cat to sleep and screwed up with his care and treatment. Prince had hyperthyroidism and went to Potton vets for a routine blood sampling. The vet that handled Prince was shocking and he took him away to do the blood sampling when Prince’s heart rate was too high for an 18 year old cat. Prince’s blood pressure and heart rate went so high during the blood sampling the hypertension caused retinal detachment and this caused him to be permanently blind. We took him back to Potton vets a few days later to see the vet we normally see and she mis-diagnosed him with glaucoma and prescribed eye drops. She also prescribed a gabapentin tablet that was too strong for Prince. I administered eye drops for 12 days and all I can say is my poor cat was overdosed with medication and it was like he had dementia. He was peeing everywhere because he was so confused and disorientated. We had to take him to another vet as Potton vets were treating us like we had done something wrong. I am glad we did as that’s when the new vet told us that Prince was overdosed on medication (eye drops, gabapentin tablet for the vet visit and over suppressed on Thyronorm (hyperthyroidism meds)). They had failed to pick up on systemic hypertension, told us that he may re-gain his eyesight when this was not the case and he was permanently blind, my cat had heart disease and could go into heart failure at anytime. As Prince as so overdosed on medication the new vets could not make an accurate assessment of Prince but did say he could die at anytime but bring him back in a week and take him off all the meds apart from the Thyronorm an reduce this to once a day. Was we shocked what Potton vets had done to our cat? YES.
Unfortunately Prince lasted less than twelve hours. He caught his collar on one of the door stops and he developed a blood clot and lost the use of his back legs. This was due to him being so confused and disorientated with the medication he had this accident as he could not walk properly and when we found him he was just flopped on the floor and he was clearly very unwell. We had to put him down on the 19th November at the new vets who treated us with care and compassion. Potton vets had caused us to put our cat to sleep from the catastrophic failures in his care and treatment.
We have put in an official complaint and of course they covered their own arses. I hold them liable for us putting our cat to sleep and now they are not communicating with us as they cannot handle our complaint and are like a child having a tantrum. We sent them a response to their response from our initial complaint. Because we told the TRUTH and said no you are wrong and we are reporting 3 of your vets to the RCVS Professional Conduct Department they are not communicating with us anymore and we have to go through there insurers. They have treated us very bad considering what we are accusing them of.
We went to hand a letter in to do with the complaint and I am asking for a copy of the CCTV from the blood sampling and legally they do not have to give me a copy but I would like a copy. They are refusing to give me a copy but have invited me in to view it on their terms. I am not willing to do this until they provide me with a copy! When we handed the letter in I saw the vet that had made Prince blind and he said our insurers are dealing with the complaint and told reception to call the police. I had warned them I would be coming in and the way they deal with it is call the police. The police were not called as I handed the letter to a very nice veterinary nurse who had helped us previously and explained the situation and wished me a Merry Christmas. Let’s be clear not all the staff at Potton vets are liable for what happened to Prince. 3 vets are and the practice manager needs to learn how to deal with complaints. I’m guessing this is not the first time Potton vets have been accused of a serious allegation. If anyone wants to DM me about this and I can tell you more. What can I say I hold Potton vets liable for us having to put our cat to sleep and I will not give up fighting for justice for Prince. I would not recommend this veterinary practice based on what I have said above. This is of course my opinion and allegations but we were told about the failings of Potton vets by another veterinary practice so this is why we are pursuing our complaint and will be taking it further. Please be really careful if you are attending this veterinary practice. Question everything and do not let them take your pet away for blood sampling. Ask them to do it in the room with you and then if anything goes wrong you can see for yourself. They will not let you have a copy of the CCTV as data protection does not cover animals and you can only have a copy if you are in the footage as it only covers humans! Read Less

Alan and Rene allowed me to do this in the most compassionate way. Then last November, Sammy became very poorly, despite the wonderful care he received from Alan and Rene, I had to say "goodbye". Both Alan & Rene go above and beyond of 'just being a vet' to the point of phoning on a Sunday as to enquire of the health of one of my guinea pigs which they had recently operated on!! I've phoned the surgery on many occasions for advice and always feel reassured afterwards.
One Christmas I was struggling to find a cat sitter who could cope with my totally unstable diabetic cat - Potton Vets stepped in and took Eddie into their care and hearts. I truly believed he didn't want to come home!
Their diagnostic equipment is brilliant - allowing you to have most results
whilst at the vets - you don't get that at your doctors or hospital! The dental X-ray, key hole surgery and laser treatment all help to minimise the length of time of surgery and aid recovery. Can€t ask for much more!

I was very impressed with the professional set-up at this surgery and the care that they take in diagnosing your pet. You will not get the cheapest prices at Potton Vets, but what you will get is an assurance that your money is well spent. They have invested in high quality equipment to give the best possible diagnosis and will take the time to walk you through the options that are best for both you and your pet. Like everything else in this world, you get what you pay for, and this practice is no exception! If your pet is precious to you and you want the best care for it, I say look no further than Potton Vets. Read Less
