Over £2,400 to botch my cat's treatment in few hours and it eventually died.
The vet who was supposed to deal with a simple operation (ie putting in a catheter) for my cat did not manage to do it for the whole day.
By the evening they had not managed it but we only realised this the following morning as they were so unclear and rushed on the phone (rushing to leave for the day at 5.30pm).
The day after we realised what a poor condition our cat was in and I was extremely distressed and in a hurry to send him to another vet.
While leaving, the receptionist asked me to pay immediately £2,400 based on an amount written on post it.
With no invoice and no explanation of costs, she started to be threatening and even make some very joke with my wife while she was distressed on the situation and crying.
While just leaving the wheelhouse and rushing to the other vet surgery, my cat was already having a seizure.
The new vet surgery received the cat and did their best to resuscitate twice our cat and did their very best to save our cat (and they manage to put in the catheter) but it unfortunately passed away during the night. The high level of competency was striking compared to the Wheelhouse and they did for much cheaper then Wheelhouse. Unfortunately, they could only record that damages the Wheelhouse did was far too great (they noticed some leakages in the rest of his body and lungs which was likely to be result of failed trials of putting the catheter).
Eventually it was too and too severe to save him. I can only emphasize that the new vet surgery have also been very supportive in our loss with our cat.
We eventually received an invoice from the wheelhouse by post but with only £270 explained out of the £ 2,400.
Two weeks later and after multiple chases, they never explained to us the rest of bill, let alone asking what did happen to our cat.
In conclusion, this place is only focus a squeezing the maximum money from your purse no matter their competency, their ethics (very rude staff at the entrance)…and charging GBP 2400 for killing a cat in less than 24h and without explaining the detailing of the invoice is just illegal and totally unacceptable to let carry on this kind of practice.

Staff were caring and compassionate. Treatment started straightaway and I was kept informed throughout. Thank you so much from us.

Dreadful service. In their car park at 09h06 walking the dog around to drain down his bladder, when the receptionist telephoned to advise me not to bother coming in as I was six minutes late. She constantly over talked me when I said I was in the car park. Very arrogant attitude. I’m happy that they showed their lack of care before I allowed my dog into theirs.
Will I go back? No chance. I want a caring practice not one focussed on just money.

I would never bring any of my animals to you if you were the last vets on earth. You were responsible for my cat dying a terrible painful distressing death. This happened a few years ago and I have never got over it. I visited your practice every weekfor Weeks telling you how her condition was deteriorating week by week. I saw every vet in your practice and all you did what do blood tests and tell me that nothing sinister was going on. I told you that my cat was dying under my very eyes and you did nothing but make me feel there was nothing wrong with my cat. Not once did you offer smudge x-rays or ultrasounds and now I am a wiser pet owner I know that that is what you should have offered my dear cat. In the end I brought her to you and had to put her to sleep straight away, I know smudge would have died anyway from the lung cancer that you failed to diagnose, but I would have if you had done your job properly been able to put her to sleep at home in the dignity that she's so deserved. This is a few years ago now and I have been so upset an unhappy but haven't had the guts to leave a review but everytime I think that to my dear cat that you let down so badly makes me so angry. Your receptionist were quite rude and always mixed up my bill and over charged me, your veterinary practice was an absolute disgrace how you did not enough to test my cat properly so she could have had a peaceful death at home. Absolutely despicable and years on I still live with the pain, dreadful practice wouldn't trust you with my granddaughter's goldfish!!!!

Took our dog in yesterday and spent several hundred pounds on treatment. We were then told by the receptionist she couldn't print out a blank insurance claim form as the cost of printing was too high. This backs up the comments from other unhappy customers of the profiteering nature of this practice. We will be moving both our dogs to another practice immediately. Markedly different to the service at Vets Now in High Wycombe who readily offered to print a form for us.

Episode after episode of extortionate prices, coupled with major efforts to recommend spurious and expensive treatment. I could literally go on for a few pages about them. Had 4 antibiotic tablets and charged over £125 when I queried it... it was "an error" not the first time either. another time brought my poorly cat in and the vet did not even examine her and tried to charge me a consultation fee. Unless you argue or keep an eye on them the residual feeling is you've been fleeced like a proper good'un.

We have very good pet insurance, and Wheelhouse know this.
Whilst the majority of the staff are lovely people I believe they are just milking us of money and I have just switched to a different vet. If I'd read the reviews last year saying that they were money hungry I wouldn't have believed them but I can't help but think that now. I know they have to make a living but the tablets I have to get for my dog on a fortnightly basis are extortionate. I spoke to the specialist we have to take our dog to (at Davies in Hitchin) about the expense and she gave us a prescription to take to a regular pharmacy to save money. I spent £150 on a months worth of 4 different types of tablets at the pharmacy. For just one of the drugs for a fortnight I spent £250 at Wheelhouse. That mark up is disgusting.
All I want is the best for my pets which is why we are switching.

Please look at all of the other 1 star reviews on this site. For anything other than basic check ups I'd avoid them at all costs. Our dog has a ongoing medical condition which we feel they have just used it as an excuse to milk us for more and more money while at the same time told us they did not have experience with the condition. It took 3 requests before they would refer her elsewhere. She has since developed a secondary condition which would not require additional treatment in a healthy dog, however after 6 months of illness they still require multiple appointments just to give us a simple answer. We have informed them we are leaving them to which the response was just "OK, bye". Poor customer service, poor pet health care. Don't get fooled by the smiling faces and decent looking buildings. It's all made from draining every penny they can from a sick animal.

I have been using the Wheelhouse for almost 30 years now and i am extremely happy with the care and the attention that my dogs past and present have received. This week my gorgeous collie puppy was suddenly very ill and had to be admitted and placed on a drip. The care she received from the vets and nurses was second to none. The reception staff were fabulous at keeping me informed of her progress. Thank you Wheely team.

This is the best vets I've ever had and I'm sad to have left them now I've moved away. When my cat Nevis, was run over and died, they showed such compassion and understanding and they looked after him while I could get my head together. They really love animals at The Wheelhouse and I can't thank them enough for all their help during the hardest time in my life when I lost my little baby. I was with them the whole time I lived in Amersham and they were always really lovely and I found their prices to be very reasonable. They're such kind and caring people and I'd highly recommend them. Thank you Wheelhouse xx

Really surprised by the negative comments. We recently acquired 2 rescue dogs and took them in to register them and for them to have a general health check as we obviously only had quite limited background information about them. We found all the staff at Wheelhouse to be very friendly helpful and professional and the late evening and weekend opening hours are also a big advantage for us. We have every confidence that we have found the right vets for our pets. Yes : eye drops, ear drops, any sort of medication is always going to be expensive but don't get a pet if you can't afford to look after it properly....

Our lovely cat recently had a nasty car accident and had to be taken in for a few days. I can honestly say the care he received was like a home from home - the nurses looked after him as I would have done, and the vets were just amazing. I got unprompted regular updates about how he was doing and I couldn't have asked for better care and service. The fee and billing process was clear and transparent too, which was also very helpful during such a stressful time.

I have been coming to the Wheelhouse for just over 18 years with my cat and have always had really good service. Unfortunately the rainbow bridge called and the staff were great with us. Thank you to Viki for her wonderful care of my boy these last 9 months whilst he's been on medication and thank you to the staff for your kindness when I collected him for the last time. Will definitely use the Wheelhouse again should another furry companion choose to live with us.

At the end of our puppy's treatment, I asked for our data to be taken off their system, as we wouldn't be returning, due to multiple added extras when paying. At the time, there wasn't a complaint as such, more of an observation and disappointment to an over estimated bill. The following day, I received a call from a female manager who was instantly defensive and unwilling to listen. I asked several times for me to end the call and not to worry about it, as I was going to find another veterinary practise, however she pushed and pushed for herself to be heard. At the end of the call, she informed me that the call had been recorded and would be used for their training. I did not agree to be recorded. This is why I will now complain, being told after a call (that I wanted to end) that I had been recorded and my call would be used to better their training, surely goes against data protection act? This makes me think why would they use such bad tactics towards training. I would not recommend this practise due to the poor management, over estimated bills and the unwillingness to listen to clients.

We have been a customer of the Wheel House for approaching 20 years. Vet medicine works in partnership with pet parents. A vet who takes time to understand the needs of my dogs (as individuals) and cater to them is special. I have examples where I really didn't like what I was hearing; cancer, amputation, seriously ill ...but working through it together & managing human emotions (coz its only about the woof) has resulted in good decisions and an excellent quality of life for my fur babies. A special shout out to:
** Dr Doolittle, Suzy Robinson & her team in Chalfont who currently care for our dogs**
- Chris Aylott for building such a fine team & setting the example

My dog has an ongoing condition.
We have very good pet insurance, and Wheelhouse know this.
Whilst the majority of the staff are lovely people I believe they are just milking us of money and I have just switched to a different vet. If I'd read the reviews last year saying that they were money hungry I wouldn't have believed them but I can't help but think that now. I know they have to make a living but the tablets I have to get for my dog on a fortnightly basis are extortionate. I spoke to the specialist we have to take our dog to (at Davies in Hitchin) about the expense and she gave us a prescription to take to a regular pharmacy to save money. I spent £150 on a months worth of 4 different types of tablets at the pharmacy. For just one of the drugs for a fortnight I spent £250 at Wheelhouse. That mark up is disgusting.
All I want is the best for my pets which is why we are switching.

Please look at all of the other 1 star reviews on this site. For anything other than basic check ups I'd avoid them at all costs. Our dog has a ongoing medical condition which we feel they have just used it as an excuse to milk us for more and more money while at the same time told us they did not have experience with the condition. It took 3 requests before they would refer her elsewhere. She has since developed a secondary condition which would not require additional treatment in a healthy dog, however after 6 months of illness they still require multiple appointments just to give us a simple answer. We have informed them we are leaving them to which the response was just "OK, bye". Poor customer service, poor pet health care. Don't get fooled by the smiling faces and decent looking buildings. It's all made from draining every penny they can from a sick animal.

I have been using the Wheelhouse for almost 30 years now and i am extremely happy with the care and the attention that my dogs past and present have received. This week my gorgeous collie puppy was suddenly very ill and had to be admitted and placed on a drip. The care she received from the vets and nurses was second to none. The reception staff were fabulous at keeping me informed of her progress. Thank you Wheely team.

This is the best vets I've ever had and I'm sad to have left them now I've moved away. When my cat Nevis, was run over and died, they showed such compassion and understanding and they looked after him while I could get my head together. They really love animals at The Wheelhouse and I can't thank them enough for all their help during the hardest time in my life when I lost my little baby. I was with them the whole time I lived in Amersham and they were always really lovely and I found their prices to be very reasonable. They're such kind and caring people and I'd highly recommend them. Thank you Wheelhouse xx

Really surprised by the negative comments. We recently acquired 2 rescue dogs and took them in to register them and for them to have a general health check as we obviously only had quite limited background information about them. We found all the staff at Wheelhouse to be very friendly helpful and professional and the late evening and weekend opening hours are also a big advantage for us. We have every confidence that we have found the right vets for our pets. Yes : eye drops, ear drops, any sort of medication is always going to be expensive but don't get a pet if you can't afford to look after it properly....

Friendly and caring centre where my cats receive excellent care. Very helpful opening hours for people who work during the day. It's great to be able to see the same vet for continuity of care.

I have used the Wheelhouse Veterinary Centre for almost 30 years. Recently my Labrador needed surgery to remove a large tumour. I cannot fault the treatment and care my dog was given. Our lovely cat recently had a nasty car accident and had to be taken in for a few days. I can honestly say the care he received was like a home from home - the nurses looked after him as I would have done, and the vets were just amazing. I got unprompted regular updates about how he was doing and I couldn't have asked for better care and service. The fee and billing process was clear and transparent too, which was also very helpful during such a stressful time.

I have been coming to the Wheelhouse for just over 18 years with my cat and have always had really good service. Unfortunately the rainbow bridge called and the staff were great with us. Thank you to Viki for her wonderful care of my boy these last 9 months whilst he's been on medication and thank you to the staff for your kindness when I collected him for the last time. Will definitely use the Wheelhouse again should another furry companion choose to live with us.

At the end of our puppy's treatment, I asked for our data to be taken off their system, as we wouldn't be returning, due to multiple added extras when paying. At the time, there wasn't a complaint as such, more of an observation and disappointment to an over estimated bill. The following day, I received a call from a female manager who was instantly defensive and unwilling to listen. I asked several times for me to end the call and not to worry about it, as I was going to find another veterinary practise, however she pushed and pushed for herself to be heard. At the end of the call, she informed me that the call had been recorded and would be used for their training. I did not agree to be recorded. This is why I will now complain, being told after a call (that I wanted to end) that I had been recorded and my call would be used to better their training, surely goes against data protection act? This makes me think why would they use such bad tactics towards training. I would not recommend this practise due to the poor management, over estimated bills and the unwillingness to listen to clients.

We have been a customer of the Wheel House for approaching 20 years. Vet medicine works in partnership with pet parents. A vet who takes time to understand the needs of my dogs (as individuals) and cater to them is special. I have examples where I really didn't like what I was hearing; cancer, amputation, seriously ill ...but working through it together & managing human emotions (coz its only about the woof) has resulted in good decisions and an excellent quality of life for my fur babies. A special shout out to:
** Dr Doolittle, Suzy Robinson & her team in Chalfont who currently care for our dogs**
- Chris Aylott for building such a fine team & setting the example
- Also I have to mention Janet Ritchie & Helen Dale who cared for our previous 3 dogs , without whose guidance we would not have enjoyed those extra years of dog love.
