Always pleased with the service though on occasion the vets do try to sell other products like dog food. My 11 year old dog had plaque and it was suggested he had an operation to remove it. I refused, bought some dental sticks and next time the vet said his teeth were great. The vet could have suggested dental sticks instead of an op. I do sometimes feel that they are quite cash orientated. They should just do what is necessary without trying to add extras. Read Less

Excellent care for cats and dogs with helpful friendly staff who put the welfare of the animals in their care right at the top of their agenda. The surgical facilities are very good I cannot remember a time when any of my family's dogs has had any complications from surgery and when they consider the dogs need highly specialised treatment they readily refer you on to the right specialist. Probably not the cheapest vet but given the all round care your beloved cat or dog deserves it is wise to have good insurance and an excellent veterinarian like Paul Manning with his accomplished colleagues and staff at Astonlee. Our Bedlington Terrier Bailey needed a cruciate operation. My local vet offered the standard cruciate treatment but the thought of bone sawing and 6 weeks caging made me search the web for something better. I found Paul Manning of Astonlee who performed an tried and tested procedure from the 1950's which involves a skin graft being used as the ligament replacement. We travelled 800 miles in 2 days to ensure our dog had the best treatment. The staff were courteous and obvi...ously caring. The post op care was not easy but would have been much more difficult with 6 weeks cage rest. Over the next month Bailey progressed to walking 1 mile with no problem. We were travelling down south so arranged to call in for a 3 monthly check. On calling into the surgery we found out that Dr Manning had suffered an eye injury and had to have an injection in his eye that morning BUT he still came into the surgery as he knew we had driven down especially.... to me that shows the professionalism of the man. 6 months on and following a beach holiday in Whitby it was fantastic to see 9 year old Bailey skipping along the beach like a pup again... If you dog needs a cruciate doing then this is the best choice you can make for your dog... Mehr anzeigen Read Less

I don't know about the care of registered animals at Astonlee, however I would highly recommend Paul for his cruciate surgery method. Sadly our Labrador needed surgery on one leg 2 years ago and the other one earlier this year. Both were done quickly and the fees were within the estimate on both occasions. UPDATE: Our girl died on the operating table yesterday; one day after posting our original comments, below. Due to Astonlee's vet Javier Gil Martinez-Darve's egregious incompetence, our pup suffered due to wrong diagnosis and a cocktail of expensive and inappropriate drugs. Another veterinary practice immediately found our dog was in severe distress caused by internal bleeding; she needed immediate surgery. Astonlee's vet diagnosed arthritis - an assumption made due to her breed. Had he 'listened' to what we were saying, he should have checked her gum colour, temperature, listened to her heart and abdomen and taken blood as we requested - none of which he did - even when we took her back to see him again because she continued to suffer. So seriously incompetent is this vet, we will formally request an investigation by the RCVS so that other animals and and their owners do not suffer unnecessarily. [Original review posted on Sunday, 11 September 2016] Sadly, Astonlee Vets in Newport Pagnell, charges fees at every opportunity, including charging us a separate consultation fee for our distressed telephone call to their practice to advise that their prescribed medication for our dog was having serious side effects. Until receiving this unannounced, additional charge through the post, we had ignored the fact that Astonlee's medication charges were nearly four times higher than reputable online veterinary pharmacies; we also ignored their reluctance to give us our money back from the unused medicine which was causing severe side effects to our dog. We won't be ignorant any more. We'll find a vet whose primary care is the animal, not how many ways to make money from a distressed mum or dad. Read Less

Never reviewed AstonLee before as the Jury is still out for me even though I have two dogs registered with them. The staff are generally very nice and helpful, but after Saturday when I was cut-off the phone because I was umming and aaahing as to what to do with my dog who had a bottom problem and AstonLee couldn't fit me in, I am a little perturbed and felt the need to review. Willow Vets on the other hand saw me and it took them 5 minutes to sort out his problem and for free!!! I have always thought Astons prices are extortionate and I never feel sure they are doing the best for my pets or just lining their pockets and ripping me off, but we love our pets and so we need this service. I saw Paul Manning who is supposed to be the top man, on one occasion and he stuck a instrument in my dogs ear which was far to long hitting here eardrum and made her squeal. She had no ill effects but nevertheless he hurt her doing a routine check when he should know what he's doing.Read Less

Hi everyone , this post is not a review as such although I've been going to Astonlee for 20 odd years and they are truly amazing, they go beyond your expectations and care about your pet not what's in your wallet. The main reason for this post is because I've been hearing a great deal about pet owners choosing not to vaccinate ??? And wanted to tell you my story as it may change your mind if your one of the non believers regarding annual vaccinations. 8 yrs ago my 2 yr old English Bull Terrier by the name of Dot was a happy healthy dog,we was out on a dog walk when she picked up a stick and it cut the inside of her mouth, I didn't think anything of it as she kept on playing and running !!!! 2 weeks later on a Sunday evening she turned yellow and couldn't walk and collapsed in the bathroom , ( this all happened in the space of an hour) we rushed to Astonlee where Paul greeted us and told us the horrific news that she probably wasn't going to make it, she spent a couple of days on drips and antibiotics Paul then asked if we wanted to be referred to the Davies specialist centre for a blood transfusion, which we did, but at 3am on Wednesday morning my lovely little girl died of internal bleeding and organ failure. The reason ... Rat urine on the stick she cut her mouth on caused leptospirosis ... I was devastated ... There are now 4 vaccinations that can protect your dog against the various strains of this awful brutal virus. I urge you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your dog vaccinated, they as our beloved pets deserve that we do this for them, it doesn't hurt them, it's quick, non expensive and gives you peace of mind that you've done all you can to protect them !! It was an awful death that could of been prevented if the other vaccination strains had been available at the time, unfortunately they were still being made in a laboratory .. But now they are available. So if you haven't got your dog vaccinated please do so !! I wouldn't wish what happened to my dog on anyone ! Astonlee have their own very cheap monthly pet plan that covers you for you annual boosters worming and flea treatments, they are not advising you to do this as a money making scheme, that's not their agenda, their agenda is to give your pet the best possible chance of a long happy healthy life. Thank you for reading this post and I hope I change owners minds about vaccinations. Kindest regards Michelle AlexanderRead Less

Just had an excellent experience... Our Vet at Aston Lee prescribed some antibiotics for an infection after her puppies... it was expensive... with the consultation, almost 170... I went online to see if i could get the tablets anywhere cheaper... the Vet were charging 3.20 each tablet, if she needs them, not an issue, but i dont like being ripped off!!! She also needs 42, I found that with pet prescription they charge only 1.22 per tablet... a significant saving!! they are delivering them next day, so i got 3 days worth from the Vet and the rest on prescription and saved around 60 in total! More people should be aware of this... I have no problem in business making a markup, but when the online Pharmacy can do it for 62% cheaper, why would you use the Vet? I think the Vets need to wake up to this and be fairer with their charging... I also know full well, that not all vets are like this..Read Less

Advice was given on worming and nail clipping and no pressure to purchase products or treatments that are not currently needed. Having recently had to use the emergency service when my dog was having cluster seizures. I can safety say that I am glad that Astonlee where on hand. Arron was amazing, he was patient, even though we were totally freaking out. He made sure my boy was out of the seizures, very scary to us but he explained everything to us and most if all reassured us the boy would be ok. Thank you so much I don't know what we would have done without you all. Read Less

My in-laws have just had there dog done by a local practice and the cost (so far) is almost double and still climbing! and for a smaller dog! Read Less

So far 4 cats, 6 rabbits and 1 hamster, and I'm sure there will be many more as the service they have provide so far is brilliant.

Paul Manning has been our Vet for about 20 years and in that time has cared for 4 dogs, a budgie and a seemingly unlimited number of guinea pigs. He is a kind and knowledgeable Vet who leads a team of dedicated and caring staff including Vets, nurses and the customer service team. Paul and his team have helped us with all levels of care for our pets - from the basics - the regular vaccinations and checkups - through the more complicated things like tooth decay and hysterectomy - and of course also helping in a very caring way at the end of our pets lives.
