I have just had a very positive experience of Village Vet, Whittlesford. My appointment was an afternoon one and unfortunately the vet team then present was unable to pacify my excitable Staffie enough to proceed with minor surgery. They prescribed medication for me to give him that evening and at a specified time the following morning before his procedure. Having done this, I took him back to the vets and a thorough history was taken and the dog was dealt with quickly and efficiently. All the staff I encountered were supportive and caring - the vets, the nurses and the reception staff. All went out of their way to make things more comfortable for elderly me and my quite elderly dog. I was impressed, too, that the biopsy results came through promptly, even within the 2 day span suggested. Really grateful Read Less

We registered our dog here in 2016, having been pleased with the service we’d had from one of their other branches at our previous address. For about four years, I could not fault these vets. Wonderful medical staff, helpful receptionists and no trouble getting appointments. They get two stars for this only. By 2020, it had all changed. An exodus of their vets (Some to start their own practice!) meant a constant stream of locums, and no continuity in care. It was difficult to get an appointment. Locums never took histories or followed up. One of my pets went in for an operation, and despite me providing written instructions, was given a medication which I did not want administered. It turned out that the receptionist had decided my note was not worth passing to the medical team. I complained, and never heard anything back. In 2021, another pet was in a lot of pain, and we were repeatedly sent away with Metacam by locums. It wasn’t until I put my foot down and demanded a referral to Dick White Referrals (Think Noel Fitzpatrick, but for East Anglia) that we learned that our beloved pet had developed a spinal issue which, had it been left untreated for a few more days, would have lead to irreversible paralysis and euthanasia. £15,000 later (Thank goodness for insurance), and thanks to the wonderful staff at Dick White’s, we have our pet back, but she will forever be lame on one leg due to the damage done by the locum’s delayed diagnosis. Again, I would complain, but I feel it would fall on deaf ears. I remain hopeful that Village Vet Whittlesford can get themselves back on track. It has only gone downhill due to staffing issues, and I sincerely hope these are temporary. They have the potential to get back to being the reliable, trustworthy veterinary team they were in 2016, but until I see for myself that standards have improved, I could not in good conscience recommend them to others. Sadly making money seems to be the priority here. No customer service. Never get to see the same Vet twice. Extremely expensive. Unprofessional manner. Paid £1,500 for X-rays I never got to see (despite paying two consultation fees) and was then told I would have to pay a further consultation fee to see them. Told dog would have to stay overnight in order to do X-rays at great expense, stress to dog and for no apparent reason. Dog sent away with no real diagnosis of original problem. Was then told to find my own hydrotherapist. Was not even given suggestions. Do not recommend. Meds also extremely expensive. Making huge mark up and told it was because they could not compete with the online vet prescription companies. Hard to believe that line when Village Vet are a huge national chain. Read Less

I hate this vet practice! The vets change more frequently than some people shower. Vets seem clearly bonus based and they even imply other vets in the same hospital are incompetent in order to get the work. They charge quadruple for drugs compared to what's available online. They don't keep very good records of your beloved pets. They seem more like cat people than dog people. If there was another option around here I'd use them but unfortunately village vet bought the only other walkable option too. Read Less

Village Vet Whittlesford looked after our cat, Polly, when she very nearly died from a serious abdominal infection. They worked around the clock carrying out emergency surgery, monitoring her in intensive care and even resuscitating her when she stopped breathing at one point. I cannot recommend this place enough. The vets and nurses seem very clued up, switched on and most importantly caring. They have always handled and dealt with our pets very gently and have all the time you can ask of them. I've never felt rushed out of there or that they weren't giving me and my pets 100% of their attention. The other members of staff there are just the same. Very friendly and helpful. Always polite and courteous, something I can't say of some other vets I have been to in the past. The surgery itself is very clean and tidy. I have never been kept waiting for an appointment. They are also great at finding you an appointment asap, if you need one quickly. Although I've never had to use it, I believe they do 24/7 emergency appointments as well. I am sent reminders about when vaccinations, etc are due from the surgery, just in case I forget. They are very helpful when dealing with our pet's insurance companies. We have never had any problems with them. It is an easy and simple process, even when there have been some fairly large amounts of money involved for surgeries and such. On a personal note, a cat of ours was unfortunately run over (died immediately) not too long ago and some unknown kind soul took the body up to Village Vets, where we collected him the next day. A few days later we received a hand written note from the team there saying they were sorry for our loss. It was a very touching and kind gesture.
