The worst experience I have ever encountered. I had never stepped foot in a vets in my life. I had received a puppy following a life threatening illness to cheer me up…I took the pup to Celyn Vets as he had been poorly treated in his early days and hadn’t received any vaccinations. While in the waiting room I was offered free pet insurance for one month which I kindly accepted as it was free and nothing else was discussed. 5 days later I took the pup to the vets as he had a slight kink in his leg…the assistant looked at the leg and couldn’t really see anything so showed the vet, few minutes later she came back with a calculation of what it would cost for an X-ray £440…I nearly fainted. I left the vet and that was that. The next day I received a text to settle the £50 consultation fee. In shock I rang the vets as it must have been a mistake as I was offered free insurance. After discussing this matter it made me upset as Jenny the receptionist was asking me if I wanted to settle the bill over the phone by card payment. Jenny accused me of raising my voice it was as if she was saying it as if somebody was in hearing distance of her on the reception and her tone of voice changed…I did ask her to stop patronising me. Jenny also said i can claim from the insurance and pay the £100 excess fee…I was gobsmacked as I’ve never had an insurance in my life. The woman offering the insurance should have explained how the insurance works when it was offered and I would never have taken it if I knew the outcome. I received a letter today saying I have an outstanding bill of £50 and if not paid an administration fee of £25 will incur and a late payment fee of 4% will be added to the account. THE BIGGEST SCAM I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!!!

Efficient service however mark up on drugs is disgusting.. a quick visit for cat was 114.00. loxicom cat 5 ml charge was 30.00 yet can buy off web for 10.81!! Metacam inj 5mg 16.39 yet 10ml bottle 17...

Metacam inj 5mg 16.39 yet 10ml bottle 17.99. the mark up is disgusting . Is this due to being taken over? Not the first time have been overcharged for drugs.

Hello Alison,
Sorry to hear your view on our pricing. You will be able to purchase the drugs online for cheaper, because the online companies are much larger than ourselves and as a result, are able to get bulk discounts on the meds held, which unfortunately we could never compete with.
You would however require a written prescription (as these are prescription meds) to order online which are £16 each.
So, loxicom would in fact cost you £26.81 and metacam 10ml bottle would be £33.99 if purchased online. We appreciate this is still slightly less than purchasing from ourselves, but not as heavily reduced as you first thought. I am glad you felt our service was of a high standard and we hope your cat is feeling better.

At first i was really happy with the service we received for our 3 dogs. Unfortunately the last 4-5 times we’ve been we have seen a different vet/young vet/trainee. I don’t feel that the continuity of care is there now. On top of that i have been to see another vet as I wasn’t happy with the diagnosis on my last visit which was for an annual health check and booster jabs, where i also raised other issues. I was told my dog had conjunctivitis, a second opinion diagnosed an eye ulcer!!! Also another of my dogs ears couldn’t even have been checked as my new vet is disturbed at the state of the ear canal and has given steroids, had the ears been checked treatment could have been started much sooner. I also raised a skin complaint that i had been treating with leucillin (the vet didn’t even know what leucillin was!) and said her skin was ok...second opinion says otherwise! I parted with well over £200 for this visit only to have to pay over another £100 for a second opinion. The high prices charged do not reflect the poor service.

Linda is a lovely, caring and thoroughly professional vet. After a very bad experience with another vet which resulted in the death of my beautiful cat, Celyn's was recommended to me and now I wouldn't trust anyone else with my precious pets.
I have found that I am not spoken down to and with respect. All the members of the Holywell team listen to what you are saying and can then give the best advice. I can't praise them enough.

With a staffy who gets stressed even more than normal, sitting in the waiting room and a JRT that loves to visit but scares our staffy, Linda is great at getting both dogs checked and back out of the treatment room without any problems. I'm sure the people in there now know how crazy our visits can be, but we work so well together. Long may our visits continue. I will add that I have never felt I have been pushed into or "advised" to have any treatments. We have discussions and decide on our own. Highly recommend the practice, glad we found you when we moved here.

I have been taking my dogs to Celyn Holywell for years, and Linda is an amazing vet and very caring.
I cannot believe the negative review I have just read.
In my experience the staff are very helpful, considerate, caring and well mannered. I have needed advice on the phone and I had a very friendly chat when I was listened to and given advice. I have NEVER been spoken to in any negative way. I guess when some people say negative things maybe they are negative people and maybe are never happy with anything.
Regarding vets in general, being an older person and having many dogs throughout my life and experiencing a few vets one thing I can say without doubt is at Celyn I have NEVER been pressured into having tests or treatment just so they can get money out of me and I know that happens with some vets.
I have to take one of my dogs every 6-8wks for her anal glands to be emptied, I cannot thank Linda enough for her care and consideration when she attends to my dog, and my dog is always happy to see Linda on her next visit:)
To sum up my dogs are happy and healthy and get first class treatment with Linda at Celyn Hollywell.
I would highly recommend them and I am happy that I have such a good vet to care for my dogs when needed.

On Thursday last week I was spoken down to on the phone by a veterinary surgeon who spoke over me repeatedly, and showed no manners or empathy to my case whatsoever as I attempted to discuss a refund due to her negligence, on this thursday I was told that I would receive a call by her manager, it is now monday and I had to call him myself as he had failed to ring me and again he expressed the same attitude, speaking over me, speaking down to me, showing no manners, apologies or empathy in any manner, I was told on the Thursday by the vet that she had no authorities to issue a refund but her practice manager did, I was then told by the manager that he has no authorities to issue a refund and I now have to write a letter for the veterinary surgeons to review- I feel this refund should be issued because 5 weeks ago I took my 4 month old border collie puppy to the Holywell branch and was told that despite her very dramatic symptoms she just had an infection, I returned the puppy to the surgery three more times and was told the same thing- after her antibiotics had finished, only 24 hours after I had returned to celyn vets for the THIRD time, she deteriorated and I took her to another surgery who rushed her in as an emergency and said she was critical and I was told to say goodbye to my puppy, fortunately this was not the case as she did pick up although she had meningitis NOT AN INFECTION, and after over 450 in vet bills and aftercare, 5 weeks later she is slowly on the mend. Celyn vet group have no explanation as to how she went from a normal infection to critically ill within 24 hours as she displayed the same symptoms throughout her illness which lasted 2 weeks with treatment from celyn vets before I went to another surgery- they are now refusing to except any responsibility or acceptance of negligance and I am fighting a hard battle for a refund of 75

I brought my kitten to this vets for his first visit on 30th November 2017 and was really impressed with the service I received. The vetinary nurse/reception and vet Jennifer were brilliant, so helpful and friendly. I will definitely be bringing our kitten here going forward. Thanks for a really warm, welcoming experience.

and have always found them to be very good - very patient, they explain things fully and are excellent with my pets, one of whom is very stroppy!!
Also, very sympathetic and caring when we had to make the awful final visit.

Linda is a lovely, caring and thoroughly professional vet. After a very bad experience with another vet which resulted in the death of my beautiful cat, Celyn's was recommended to me and now I wouldn't trust anyone else with my precious pets.
I have found that I am not spoken down to and with respect. All the members of the Holywell team listen to what you are saying and can then give the best advice. I can't praise them enough.

With a staffy who gets stressed even more than normal, sitting in the waiting room and a JRT that loves to visit but scares our staffy, Linda is great at getting both dogs checked and back out of the treatment room without any problems. I'm sure the people in there now know how crazy our visits can be, but we work so well together. Long may our visits continue. I will add that I have never felt I have been pushed into or "advised" to have any treatments. We have discussions and decide on our own. Highly recommend the practice, glad we found you when we moved here.

I have been taking my dogs to Celyn Holywell for years, and Linda is an amazing vet and very caring.
I cannot believe the negative review I have just read.
In my experience the staff are very helpful, considerate, caring and well mannered. I have needed advice on the phone and I had a very friendly chat when I was listened to and given advice. I have NEVER been spoken to in any negative way. I guess when some people say negative things maybe they are negative people and maybe are never happy with anything.
Regarding vets in general, being an older person and having many dogs throughout my life and experiencing a few vets one thing I can say without doubt is at Celyn I have NEVER been pressured into having tests or treatment just so they can get money out of me and I know that happens with some vets.
I have to take one of my dogs every 6-8wks for her anal glands to be emptied, I cannot thank Linda enough for her care and consideration when she attends to my dog, and my dog is always happy to see Linda on her next visit:)
To sum up my dogs are happy and healthy and get first class treatment with Linda at Celyn Hollywell.
I would highly recommend them and I am happy that I have such a good vet to care for my dogs when needed.

On Thursday last week I was spoken down to on the phone by a veterinary surgeon who spoke over me repeatedly, and showed no manners or empathy to my case whatsoever as I attempted to discuss a refund due to her negligence, on this thursday I was told that I would receive a call by her manager, it is now monday and I had to call him myself as he had failed to ring me and again he expressed the same attitude, speaking over me, speaking down to me, showing no manners, apologies or empathy in any manner, I was told on the Thursday by the vet that she had no authorities to issue a refund but her practice manager did, I was then told by the manager that he has no authorities to issue a refund and I now have to write a letter for the veterinary surgeons to review- I feel this refund should be issued because 5 weeks ago I took my 4 month old border collie puppy to the Holywell branch and was told that despite her very dramatic symptoms she just had an infection, I returned the puppy to the surgery three more times and was told the same thing- after her antibiotics had finished, only 24 hours after I had returned to celyn vets for the THIRD time, she deteriorated and I took her to another surgery who rushed her in as an emergency and said she was critical and I was told to say goodbye to my puppy, fortunately this was not the case as she did pick up although she had meningitis NOT AN INFECTION, and after over 450 in vet bills and aftercare, 5 weeks later she is slowly on the mend. Celyn vet group have no explanation as to how she went from a normal infection to critically ill within 24 hours as she displayed the same symptoms throughout her illness which lasted 2 weeks with treatment from celyn vets before I went to another surgery- they are now refusing to except any responsibility or acceptance of negligance and I am fighting a hard battle for a refund of 75
