We visited your practice on July 20th with our dog Tilly as she was having breathing problems ( shallow, fast and coughing) I also thought she had a temp. We would normally use a Bolton practice, but she seemed so unwell that I wanted her to be seen that morning as we would of had to wait until late afternoon. The vet was told Tilly's history about her having a radical mastectomy in February of this year and that we suspected a chest infection she took her in for examination. After 15 minutes she rang my husband's phone and he passed it over to me, she explained that Tilly did not have a temperature, her chest was clear and she seemed fine to her, but if I wanted ( to put MY mind at rest) she could run blood tests, I felt like she thought i was worrying over nothing, so we declined, she did say we could go back at any time if was concerned............ but why would I, my dog had just been given a pass on her MOT right???
Tilly's breathing was the same and to be honest I was pulled between wanting to take her to a vet but not wanting to seem like I have Munchausens, so on Monday 27th July we took her to our usual vet in Bolton. This resulted in Tilly staying in overnight for investigations!! Our vet rang early on Tuesday to tell us that she has lung cancer! She is now being treated palliatively.
Now I know that finding out a week ago would not have saved Tilly's life, but she could have started the treatment then. How was this missed? There is a trust between a pet owner and a vet and I wish I had gone with my instinct and not with that vet as I feel like I have let Tilly down.
I look forward to your reply
