We’ve sadly lost 2 dogs under the care of Beech House in the past 18 months and will never trust this practice again. One was only a just over 1 year old Frenchie.
The first, a 10-year old Staffie who suddenly displayed extremely worrying signs was sent home with some special dog food - then upon returning and insisting it was a more serious issue, was misdiagnosed, until around a week later being diagnosed with a tumour which they didn’t spot on the previous scan. He was booked in for surgery, but passed away the morning of the surgery before he went in. Had the issue been spotted from when we first took him, his life may have been saved had he had surgery - but we just put it down to bad luck. This was a mistake.
We then got a beautiful French Bulldog. Just over 1 year of age, he was booked in to Beech House for neutering. We queried whether we needed to see a vet to make sure he was eligible and told by reception that this was not needed since it was such a simple, routine procedure and they booked him in. Reception let us know the main risk was a small risk of infection. As professionals, we trusted Beech House - a mistake we will not make again.
On the day of the procedure, reception provided a consent form to sign. We were reassured that the risks were minimal, with the main one being infection. At no point was it mentioned that French Bulldogs have a higher risk than other breeds of adverse affects from anaesthetic.
Within an hour of procedure, Dylan had passed away.
Beech House take no responsibility in this, despite multiple large published studies showing the risk of such an incident is as low as 0.02% in males (“Perioperative mortality in cats and dogs undergoing spay or castration at a high-volume clinic" - London Veterinary Journal)
Such a staggeringly low mortality rate, yet Beech House will not take any responsibility in the issue. As far as they are concerned, we signed the consent form and that’s that.
Disgustingly, when we went to Beech House and requested to speak to the vets responsible, we were told they were too upset to speak to us (I can assure you we were more upset) and instead had to speak to a nurse.
The nurse simply reiterated we had signed the consent form, accepted no responsibility, and made a comment that the risks are higher in French Bulldogs. This was never once mentioned at all, at any point prior to his passing. We find this shocking.
Choose your vet practice wisely, especially if they are undergoing any kind of surgery. We will never trust this practice again. Read Less
