Absolutely useless... Tried to get flea treatment for a cat that had been seen within 12 months and now the rule is if it's nearly 12 months you have to be seen again. Which would be fine if I wasn't told the complete opposite and wasted my time driving there to collect the treatment only to be told the cat needed to come in anyway. Just lost our 14 year old Jack Russell Chumbo. Obviously we are devastated. Throughout this terrible time everyone at Penmellyn was incredibly supportive, understanding and caring. They always kept us informed of what was happening to her and explained why particular treatments were being tried. Chronic kidney disease is potentially a really tough way to go, but thanks to the expertise of David Jackson and those around him we were able to make a considered decision about when enough was enough. Chumbo was very well cared for and we too were looked after really well. On the last day we had access to Chumbo in a room for as long as we wanted. We could take her outside from time to time. Eventually when we had to say good bye it could not have been better. Everything was explained to us and we made the decisions about how it would be. Throughout her life she has always been wonderfully looked after and welcomed by this Practice. I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

My 4 little dogs have been registered with Penmellyn for just under 2 years. I have nothing but praise for the staff at the St. Austell branch, where we are registered and also the hospital at St. Columb where one of my dogs had 6 operations last year. We have two wheaten terriers who are both prone to various allergies / ear infections and the like. The guys at Penmellyn have always been excellent not only in the way they treat our boys, but also in trying to help us identify issues when they come up. As usual traumatic for both the dogs - and just their annual health check and vaccinations! However, the Vet was excellent, friendly, kind, calm and patient as always, and took as much time as was needed to settle them to ensure that they could be examined and treated. Advice given about treatments was given and explained but there is never any pressure - the choice is always the client's. It is very obvious that they have the best interests of the animals in mind. A great supply of treats is always to hand - greatly appreciated especially after the event! The receptionist is also excellent - efficient, kind and friendly. I recommend highly. Read Less

I cannot thank all of the staff at the St Columb Major hospital enough. They looked after my 9 month old puppy as if he was their own. He would have been more than happy to stay at the hospital with them! He was kept over night multiple times over the festive period suffering with Meningitis. We were kept up to date at all times and he was thoroughly looked after. Nothing was too much trouble and we really value having somewhere that we can trust to look after our dogs. We have used Penmellyn for many years even when they were in the tiny practice just before entering St.columb. They have always been great with all of our dogs and have a very high attention to detail, i have recently been using them for the last 5 years or so for my horses and after having to have my horse stabled for a few nights while having lots of treatment they were brilliant, they have the perfect set up and i knew that my horse was properly cared for couldn't fault them, they talked me through everything they were doing and why, they even followed up with a phone call and email to ask how everything was by the vet who was doing the procedures. I also had to make the horrible decision that every horse owner dreads, but i emailed Ruth Varcoe and she put my mind at ease and helped me through my tough decision. They are a brilliant practice with a brilliant team and i will be continuing to use them for the foreseeable future.Read Less

Our family has been using Penmyllen Veterinary for 5 years now for our two black labs- unfortunately we've had to visit a few times more than we'd of liked- for allergy problems to hip conditions but the service has always been very welcoming and friendly. Care, support and advice is always offered and all the staff from receptionists to vets make a real effort to befriend the animals in their care - a few treats go a long way with labs I would recommend their services to any pet owner! St Columb practice made my (usually very nervous at the vets) jack russell feel very comfortable and at ease when having her annual jabs, which made me a happy pet owner. Would always recommend the service provided by penmellyn, I've been bringing my animals to the surgery for many years and all my childhood pets have been seen by Penmellyn vets so as an adult my first choice was yourself to have my animals looked after. last year my cat suffered an injurie to his arm and paw and was looked after so well, he was enjoying the attention after visiting every few days for his dressing to be changed . Monday 23rd may i took my little dog to my own vets to be told i had to get him to penmellyn urgently, i knew it had to be serious as we went through it 8 years ago, harvey had damaged his back yet again, in 2009 he damaged his disc t10/11 this time it was his l2/3, i was greeted by colin who id like to say is my hero (again) brilliant at his job not only mends the animals but is so aware of owners emotions and his choice of words is not only true but put into a understanding language, i am delighted to say today wednesday 25th i was able to bring harvey back home, with the brilliant colin and his wonderful nurse team harvey is back home with his little family and can i just add his brother teddy the cat was so pleased to have him home as we all are, i know you guys are flat out and caring for all the poorly animals in there but you go above n beyond without fail i had a phone call in tge morning with updates, i was able to phone at any time day or night to put my mibd at ease and when we went to visit the nurse made herself appear like she had the time to talk to us although everytime she came back to us she was wearing something new as she was weed on or pooped on, you all work so hard and do a great job both for the animals and owners your all very special people and i can not thankyou enough, im glad it was only a flying visit this time last time it was 13 days but both times i have nothing but good words about you guys brilliant just brilliant thankyou colin and all that helped harvey loads of love from harvey and all his family xxxxxxxxxxRead Less
