I took my 7 year old dog here on Saturday. Within 2 minutes I was told to put my dog to sleep regrettably I agreed as I thought they know best. I wasn't offered any other examination just told I was doing the right thing for her. Well after few days I'm gutted I didn't get a 2nd opinion. I will have to live with this dession for the rest of my life and the guilt I feel now is horrible. It was all so quick I didn't have enough time to digest my dession. If you are in my shoes please don't make the wrong same mistake. I fully understand that guilt comes with this but I let me dog down massively and hate myself for not getting xrays and bloods done. Shame on you Gortlands. Gortlands charge £75 extra for Bank Holiday emergency clinic (and they don't mention that in their recorded phone message so you only find out after you have gone to all the trouble of going to the vets). Why is it that businesses just try to squeeze as much money out of their customers as they can nowadays. Pet owners ALREADY pay them a LOT of money over the course of one or many pets lives. Isn't it about time the vets gave something BACK! What is the big deal of vets having to work on a bank holiday? What makes that so different than any other day? Sad! Read Less

I travel 50 mile to these vets, as I have been taking my dog for 7 years. We then took our other dog for just over a year. The younger dog is only one when he became ill, they were very quick to see him and start treatment. Your pets are your world and you want them to be in the right place and this is a place I trust and well worth the travel. Read Less

Excellent caring & dedicated people at Gortlands. They brought my dog Blackie back from deaths door, she is still well a couple of years later. My wee izzy is 11 has a problem with her back passage needed her glands unblocked everytime we go to vet I feed her the best off food went today the vet  has really hurt her she cryed whilst the vet unblocked them couldn't wait to get her out no time in & out still shaking not amused at all the she's not eating or drinking & the smell unreal she lying in bits on my bed not amused to many appointments at one time need longer opening hours maybe it's a one off don't know Read Less

Gortlands Vets are fabulous! Literally hours before I was going on a trip of a lifetime, my dog fell whilst running downhill in a field. She broke her front leg in 3 places. I left her in the care of Gortlands until family arrived to help out. They were in constant contact via Skype and email, discussed all possible outcomes before I left and provided much reassurance for me and the rest of the family. Unfortunately she had her leg amputated 3 days later, but as promised she has adapted very well and remains a very happy and lively dog. Thank you to all concerned. Read Less

I have been using Gortlins for years,wouldn't go anywhere else ALL the staff and I mean all from receptionists to Vets and nurses are all dedicated kind and caring professionals.I am particularly fond of Dr Creed,Dr Lemmens Dr Finlay and Dr Jonny Love.What a team no doubt the rest are too, but they are the ones who treated my Wee Yorkie Holly.They fit you in as quickly as they can and do their very best.They also put myself at ease as I know It can been a worrying and frightening time for both my dog and myself.They also ring you and keep you up to date,Even when they are very busy in their day's schedule.Respect to you all Janice chambers. Sadly needed to have my beloved Duke put to sleep today. I cannot thank the staff at Gortland enough for the gentle and dignified way his passing was handled. Also the compassion shown to me and my 3 sons who were with him at the end. Even though it was the end of the working day we were able to spend as much time afterwards with him as we needed to and this made a very painful experience so much easier for us all. Prepare yourselves for a sad story; a true tear-jerker. I'll give you a chance to get the tissues out, cos you'll be needing them.The story which led us to Gortlands involves a dearly beloved cat, whose name was Toffee. At only 4 years old, Toffee developed a wee lump on her shoulder, but we were informed that it wasn't anything to worry about, just a foreign body or something, she'd be fine. This unnamed vet coincidently disappeared for a 3 week holiday over the Easter period, and we consequently heard nothing.Concern grew for our puss, and we decided that we had best take her to another vets. It was all very traumatic, and she ran away which really added to the stress of the occasion. A week later, Toffee was taken to Gortlands, where we were more reliably informed that she actually most likely had cancer. This meant having an operation to remove the tumour, but we knew this was a great risk, as she had lost a lot of blood already and was so small that we didn't think she could cope. The vet really was so helpful and kind, and did everything he could, but sadly Toffee passed away a few hours after coming through the operation. I honestly can't recommend these lovely people enough. They took care of everything for us, including her cremation, and were really so incredibly thoughtful. They truly cared. Since then, we have acquired a second cat from an animal sanctuary, and would happily take her to Gortlands if ever the requirement arose. Read Less
