Have been with Abbey since it first opened in Durham many many years ago and they've looked after 2 generations of my dogs. However, since Mr Whalley sold the practice to a national 'chain' followed a couple of years later by Chris Robinson leaving in 2018 the service has gone way down hill and drastically so. Too many young and inexperienced new vets, no continuity of care ( never see the same face twice), no one 'knows' the pets history any more they just read the last entry on the record and prices have gone up and up and up. I think the 'care' has gone and it's just a business out to make a profit like any other, Read Less

When I bought my puppy I registered him at my nearest vets which wasn't abbey vets and I was really upset at the way they handled my pup and their attitude with me as a customer so I thought it was best to change, I decided to go with Abbey vets, they welcomed both me and my puppy and bent over backwards so us to ensure his injections were given the correct time! Now my pup is having weekly visits for treatment and I can't thank the team enough, surprisingly Cole runs into the vets (which I know many dogs don't) and just feel so reassured when I leave him that he's in safe caring hands! I honestly couldn't recommend the place enough! Every single person I have met there is so so lovely!! Read Less

I may have left a review at another date but I feel I need to do it now. Baxter was in today following a long period without being able to get him in to be groomed. He not only looks and smells amazing but he is in such a relaxed mood and always is when he gets back. He has had a bad experience of a particular local groomers who cut him and the constantly complained about him. He seems to be reluctant to go in every time but when I spy him thriving the window he's on the table looking like he owns the place Hope he behaved himself today and thank you very very much! I have been using Abbey Vets for more than 18 years. I have recommended them to many people, including my own customers, (I'm a Pet Sitter), and having several pets of my own, all registered to Abbey, I've had no problems with their service over the years (and I've used them a lot!) However, I think they could offer a better service by operating an on-site "out-of-hours" practice for emergencies (as they used to do many years ago and as Cestria Vets do. Vets Now in Gateshead is too far in a real emergency and they have no access to your pets records). They could also offer more incentives, such as vaccinations for life (as Vets4Pets do); plus their charges are on the high side (lots of people I know have commented on this). I'm sure if Abbey asked their customers if they would like these options (and no doubt many other options which other Vets possibly offer), they would definitely say "yes"! Overall, a very good well run vets, offering a high standard of care, with lots of experienced/knowledgeable staff and all handled in the correct manner and with compassion and care. Read Less

Moving abroad is never easy and moving 11,000 miles to New Zealand needs thought when you have a pet due to the strict biosecurity laws. Abbey vets Chester Le Street helped us line everything up to ensure our cat was ready to travel just before us. Rabies vaccines, worming, flea treatments, certification, all carried out professionally. The guys did have to do some research on New Zealand's particular requirements as they change regularly but they took this as a project and everything went like clockwork. It's been 9 months now and we are all settled in Auckland, New Zealand. We moved in March and our cat stayed in quarantine for 3 weeks in NZ before we could pick her up. She is enjoying the Kiwi sunshine and laid-back lifestyle now. Many thanks Abbey Nets Claire, Dave, Tyler and Chompski the cat. Read Less

Read Less

We have been to Abbey numerous times over the last 8 months for various reasons and each time they have been very welcoming, very gentle and reassuring with our greyhound and very thorough in treatment advice etc... Dave was under anaesthetic this week to have a scale and polish and had to have a tooth out, I was anxious but they rang me twice to keep me up to date with his recovery, which was very reassuring. I also use the grooming service and again, they are brilliant, patient and gentle with him, he loves Gemma in the groomers ! Thank You to all the staff there Read Less

Read Less
