Prince Bishop Vets looked after our dog when we discovered he had cancer. I cannot rate thaier care and compassion highly enough. Not only were they kind and considerate to us, but they were with him at all times, even coming in on their days and nights off to chack he was ok. I asked for an estimate though and somehow the treatment i agreed on over the phone must have been misunderstood and i was not told of additional costs such as a buster.Not that big a deal just not a 5 star due to this,i would still recommend as treatment was quick with friendly professional services. Having moved to County Durham recently there is always a fraction of apprehension when visiting a new Vet for the first time. Well, I shouldn't have been worried. PBVH is FANTASTIC! You are greeted by friendly Reception Staff who make you feel comfortable straight away. The Vet I chose to see for my Beagles is BRILLIANT. After care for any procedures done under anaesthetic is exceptional, and that includes next day telephonic checkup asking how your pet is doing. I particularly like the double door entry and exit system they have to ensure the safety of your pets. I cannot fault PBVH, and therefore a 5* review was the least I could give. Very happy. Jasper, the older of our two cats, was recently run over and received treatment for his injuries at PBVH. Although Jasper broke his tail, but no other bones, he did suffer damage and swelling to his nerves and the area around his rump. A consequence of this was that he was unable to pee for himself and this had to be done for him. We were shown how to do this before he came home - (the nurses were very patient with me as I took a long time to grasp the technique). Jasper stayed in the hospital for a week before he came home, then returned a week later to have his damaged tail removed, before coming home again to recover from his accident. Jasper has now had his stitches removed and can now pee for himself - much relief all round! His fur is still to grow back to its' original length though, so he still looks odd with no tail and a shaved bum! We are sure that the professional care and expert attention Jasper received from all the nursing staff and vets at Prince Bishops, made his recovery much quicker than it may otherwise have been. The staff were compassionate with Jaspers' needs at all times. During his stay in the hospital the nurses provided us with daily progress reports which were very welcome. The ability to get advice out of practice hours was also very reassuring. Prince Bishop has looked after all our various cats for nearly 30 years, and Jacqui and all her team can justifiably be proud of their work which is at all times professional, polite but at the same time friendly. We would have no problem at all with recommending this practice as outstanding for anyone looking for a Veterinary Practice to cater for their pets' needs. Read Less

The staff were amazing with my rabbit Millie, they did everything they could and advised me correctly for her treatment. She was on long term drops for her eyes and had an uterine tumour removed last October but unfortunately she had to be put to sleep last week. Christina who saw us was lovely. I miss Millie everyday but can't thank the staff enough, I really appreciated the card they sent after Millie had gone. Keep up the great work. All my animals shall be coming here. Read Less

We were told we had to pay for medicine we didn't have, then when queried it, the receptionist said in a very unprofessional manner "the vet told you you would get refunded for it in the consultation"...The vet didn't mention that to us at all in the consultation! It was a bare faced lie to cover his mistake instead of just apologising. One of our dogs is in the middle of investigation of an illness and the practice manager came out and told us (me and my Mum) not to come back and to ban us from the practice!!! I suspect the practice manager is related to the receptionist because the reaction we got from her was awful, totally unprofessional and instead of asking what happened, took his side and told us not to come back. We had 4 dogs registered with them but will happily, and almost certainly, find a far better practice to go to. Disgusting!Read Less

We live at Great Lumley and got to know the vets at Prince Bishops through My Pet Stop, in our time of need for a second opinion for our beautiful Lab Snoopy. Their kindness and understanding yet still giving us the facts was beyond expectations. Sadly we had to put Snoopy to sleep a few weeks later and the vet came out to the house and did everything to help us give Snoopy the good bye we wanted to. We have another dog and we would never now go anywhere else. We never had any complaints about the vets we had gone to for 13 years but Prince bishop vets are in a different league. On Wednesday we found our cat struggling for breath at 10pm I rang prince bishop and spoke to a lovely receptionists(maybe she was a nurse) who told me to bring her through straight away and the vet would see her unfortunately taby passed away in the car 5 minutes before we arrived at the vets. The receptionist was so lovely she rang us within 20minutes of spreaking to her on the phone to make sure we were all ok, and even though I was unable to hardly speak as I was so hysterical she comforted us and made sure we were ok. Just want to thank the amazing lovely kind hearted receptionist and the vet who was on call that night who was also amazing and so kind for all their help and support they offered. Found my much loved ginnie pig suffering this afternoon, my partner rang up and even though it was a Saturday afternoon and saying you had no appointments we were told to come down and we would get seen. The receptionist was lovely, asked how my boy was doing and seeing how upset I was offered us to wait in a room away from the reception. Unfortunately my boy had to be put to sleep but the vet was so sympathetic it really helped. Genuinely horrible day for me made slightly better by your lovely staff. Read Less
