These comments apply to both Durham and Chester le Street. Yesterday we lost our lovely Rufus caused by lymphoma. He was diagnosed 11 months ago and Abbey Vets have been treating him during that time. The compassion and care from all the staff has been exceptional and we have to thank Chris Robinson so much for the love and care he has shown Rufus during that time. Yesterday was agony having to say goodbye to our dearest Rufus and without Chris's compassion we would have been lost. When I bought my puppy I registered him at my nearest vets which wasn't abbey vets and I was really upset at the way they handled my pup and their attitude with me as a customer so I thought it was best to change, I decided to go with Abbey vets, they welcomed both me and my puppy and bent over backwards so us to ensure his injections were given the correct time! Now my pup is having weekly visits for treatment and I can't thank the team enough, surprisingly Cole runs into the vets (which I know many dogs don't) and just feel so reassured when I leave him that he's in safe caring hands! We have been to Abbey numerous times over the last 8 months for various reasons and each time they have been very welcoming, very gentle and reassuring with our greyhound and very thorough in treatment advice etc... Dave was under anaesthetic this week to have a scale and polish and had to have a tooth out, I was anxious but they rang me twice to keep me up to date with his recovery, which was very reassuring. I would really like to thank Chris Robinson for his wonderful care for Sorrell throughout her life but particularly today when it came to the time to say fare well. Sorrell adored Chris and Steve and I really appreciated that special bond she developed with him. We have been coming to Abbey Vets in Chester le street for a couple of years now. All 3 of our dogs are registered with them and I have never (until I got these 3 dogs) had a dog that was actually excited to visit the vets! They seem to think it is a big, fun day out! We took our youngest border collie to see Inge today about a small lump on her tummy. Obviously you see a lump you think it is going to be something awful but Inge was amazing! She put our minds at ease straight away and even managed to cheer up a slightly sulky Willow (our dog). I wouldn't take our dogs anywhere else and I am very happy and glad to be able to call Inge and the rest of the amazing Abbey staff our Vets! 5* service, live in Durham or Chester - Le - Street? Let's face it nobody really wants to take their pets to the vets but I have to say this surgery is absolutely fantastic. From the minute you walk in you are made to feel welcome, the receptionists are lovely and always make a fuss of my dog. The shop is so well stocked and the prices are reasonable. I may have left a review at another date but I feel I need to do it now. Baxter was in today following a long period without being able to get him in to be groomed. He not only looks and smells amazing but he is in such a relaxed mood and always is when he gets back. He has had a bad experience of a particular local groomers who cut him and the constantly complained about him. He seems to be reluctant to go in every time but when I spy him thriving the window he's on the table looking like he owns the place Hope he behaved himself today and thank you very very much! Abbey Vets is quite simply the best vet practice we've ever used! Since finding them in an emergency situation with our young puppy 8 years ago, we haven't gone anywhere else (despite moving house!). From the vets to the nurses, reception and pet store staff, they are the friendliest, most helpful and compassionate people you could ever wish to take care of your pets. Treatment options are always explained carefully and clearly, and not once have we ever felt we were being steered towards more expensive treatments, or that procedures were carried out unnecessarily. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Vets are very thorough in examinations. They explain things clearly and are sympathetic. I feel confident that my dogs will get the best treatment whenever I have to take them. Receptionists are welcoming and helpful. The waiting area and examination rooms are always clean. The Pet Plan available is excellent value for money and the text reminders are very helpful for keeping on track with our dogs medication / check ups. We used this vet for the whole life of our dog, who sadly just passed away at the age of 14. In his life he had various treatments and operations at Abbey Vet, Durham. We were always fullly informed of how the procedure would be or what treatment options were available. We always felt he was in the best of hands. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming. Chris is a particular favourite of ours, always offering such genuine interest and care in our beloved pet. He is supported by an excellent team. Even when we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have our elderly dog put to sleep, because he was too poorly, Abbey Vets did not rush us. We were allowed plenty of time alone with our pet before and after. It was as dignified as it could be. We will not hesitate to remain with Abbey Vet for our next dog. Read Less
