Went to this vets about hair loss on my ginger tabby around six months ago. Was in there about five mins while the vet was anything but talkative and told me he needed an injection for eczema but also said it could be fleas even though we told him we flead and wormed the cat every month. Got out of the room to the desk to pay and was told it would be fifty pounds just for one injection and a five minute appointment. Mean while six months on we are finding a different vets as he is still loosing hair around his legs and tail and is worse than he was. Will not be coming here again. We are hard up and only want to take care of him as best we can without worrying about not being able to pay by the end of an appointment. THESE PEOPLE ARE ONLY AFTER YOUR MONEY!! My partner before Christmas came into vets for pets to get advocate for our dogs, at this appointment she spoke with a woman at reception about making an appointment for our dogs to get their passports done and vaccines because we wanted to take them sking for two weeks on January 19th. She said we could have an appointment with you on the 18th jan in the afternoon, I said is that correct, is that all we need to do, she confirmed yes. The following week my partner rang up to change the appointment to the morning because of travelling she re asked, are you sure that is all we need to do? That appointment will be enough and she replied yes we can sort everything then. On the morning on the 18th when our appointment was at 10am, we had a call from the receptionist a 0900 that sadly kevin the owner where on holiday and can we make the appointment for the 19th, we said yes but was tight because we needed to travel to the ferry. After the phone call I rang around other vets to see if we could be seen earlier, we rang cestria vets who then said you need to have the rabies vaccine 21 days before you travel, we were unaware of this and felt extremely angry and upset with the fact we could no longer take our dogs travelling. I feel so disappointed to have trusted what the girls at reception had said, especially when they have both my dogs details in front of them, with Dexter the lab never having had the rabies jab before. This huge mistake has cost us a lot of heart ache, Mika the husky is a rescue dog who suffers with separation anxiety and because of this mistake happened so close to us travelling we had to put both our dogs in kennels, which they have never been in before. We take our dogs everywhere with us and this completely broke my partners heart. This has also cost us financially the kennels have cost us £32 a night gone 16 days £512. So what was a holiday we were extremely looking forward to, this error has effected everything really. We are very disappointed with the whole situation, yes we should have probably Googled it our selves but we trusted vets for pets as been with you for a long time, it’s like ignoring your gp. Kevin the owner comes back after we make an initial complaints which took over a month to make a decision which he spoke his receptionist which told him no She didn't say that which is a complete lie, and that we should of done our research and take no liability for the situation which is terrible excuse as I said before they are your vets you trust what they say like your doctor telling you something and you ignore their advice and go on what google tells you. So frankly kevin I am disgusted by your response and if that was going to be your response you could of told me when you first contacted me and not make me chase you for a decision which took over a month!! As a business owner myself I think your business skills are terrible and no one should trust anything your vets tell people as if you get it wrong you will just say you should of googled the information not trust what is the vets tell you!!! I’ve had a few bad experiences at this vets. Once we took our cat in for a check up and were told he felt like he had a tumour. Several tests and £350 later he got the all clear. The most recent visit was because I suspected he was showing signs of kidney failure. After being asked if I wanted him putto sleep (before the two minute consultation that followed) I was offered a blood test ‘if I really wanted to go down that route’. I did as I trusted my instincts after 16 years with my cat v’s a vets quick 2 min once over. I left with a bill of £120 and again all clear results. Not convinced, I sought a second opinion at another local vets. After a £20 blood test there- I was told he had acute kidney failure. I had to have him put to sleep shortly after. Not quite sure what my £120 paid for. Maybe a new shiny computer or some advertising for the franchise but it certainly wasn’t for my cat’s benefit. Read Less

My dog sadly passed away two weeks ago, she was over 17, I would like to thank Kevin (the vet) and his nursing assistant for the thoughtful way they handled the situation, I had been attending the practice for many years and had always found all the staff friendly and helpful. Yesterday I received a sympathy card from the practice containing some Forget me Not seeds, to plant in her memory, which I thought was a very touching gesture. Disgusting experience. My dog Amber wasn't well so we took her here and they said she had a stomach bug without even checking her over. Took her back two days later after she was getting worse, they still didn't check her over and said she had a bug and sore mouth. Got worse the next day so we took her to Cestria vets in Chester le street and I can't praise them enough. They did a blood test and found out she had kidney failure and her kidneys were 90% gone and had a less than 10% chance of surviving. We had to put her to sleep later that day cause she wasn't going to get better. If vets for pets just did a blood test or even checked her over properly on the Wednesday she might of had a chance of surviving. Will never go there againRead Less

We're convinced they killed one of our rabbits by giving it too much sedative. They said our two rabbits both weighed exactly 1.11kg (and so were given the same amount of sedative), which seems extremely unlikely as one seemed much larger and heavier than the other. Many vets don't spay rabbits under a certain age - we weren't told this and would have waited if we were told. Read Less

When we moved on to Newton hall this was an obvious choice just on the door step for our now 2 cats.  I have took my eldest cat a few times for miner things and just recently took our new edition to be sprayed.  I read in one review it was like buying a car and that is exactly how I would describe it apart from the fact that car salesmen are friendly to get money out of you.  Unfriendly doesn't even cut it there is no smile no chit chat to you or your animal.  It's juat yes this is wrong with your animal give him this and of course they want you to make another appointment and then they take your money.  I am now with a different vets one that is 10-15mins drive away but at least me and my animals get a smile. Took My cat to be spayed, the whole experience was like buying a car, optional extras this, optional extras that!!! the staff could only be described as useless unfriendly fools, not very helpful who greet you with 'what?'. the worst part was the fact they would allow you to take your pet home without any pain relief as it was an "optional extra". these people charge a fortune to have cat spayed then try to guilt you in to buying extra. people love their animals & would not allow them to suffer after an operation and vets for pets are well aware of this and will take your eyes out!!!!! i have found a vets that include everything in the price so no trying to guilt you in to buying extra!!! oh yes and one more thing, my cat who's an indoor only cat came back with flies and covered in her own pee!!Read Less

Once again many thanks for the caring attitude shown at a very difficult time. Read Less
