I have had my dog with this vets for the past 5 years since I found her. They have been nothing but excellent. Routine operations run smoothly and complicated medical problems was never written off. She has an immune problem in which we have had to balance medication so it makes her better and keeps her blood levels to its optimum. I admit I may be considered biased as I have worked for this veterinary practice for 5 years as a receptionist. But this has provided me with the knowledge of what truly goes on in the back and just how dedicated vets and nurses and receptionists are. They all forego food, breaks and even toiletries to priorities everyone's pets needs. I have seen nurses and vets break with exhaustion and emotion. I have seen them give up their free time. I have seen them bounce back! I have seen them risk their own safety to protect everyone's pet! What goes on behind the scenes is often forgotten or ignored. Credit is due massively but unfortunately neglected to all vets and nurses and receptionists in this practice. This is in my opinion, the reasons I give for such a wonderful practice and dedicated team Read Less

I begrudge leaving one star. Took our staffy to be spayed, and they sent her home with no painkillers. On her check up, the vet was shocked, and told us that the vet had been reprimanded. I could just about accept human error, until someone with a plum in her mouth rung me and said that she would have had enough pain killers from her op to last her a couple of days. So I asked why the vet had been reprimanded. She actually laughed and said he hadnt. I hung up. A couple of months previously I took our cat on two occasions who had developed scabs. On both occasions I was told it was a flea allergy, and on the second visit I was told we must have fleas in our house and did I want to buy their super expensive flea spray for our carpets and furniture. I took her to see a proper vet in Alfreton, and she's on 2 tablets a week for life, scab free and a lovely coat again. Charlesworth are a joke and I will never trust them with our pets again. I brought my cat to this vets and then moved several miles away. So I took her to another well known vets instead. However when she became poorly and couldn't be cured I was really disappointed with the treatment from new vets. We took our cat back to Charlesworth and the compassion and care was brilliant. She was really well looked after and it helped me too. We now travel to bring our new cat here. I posted this after reading other negative comments as I was so surprised. Read Less

This morning we took our precious duck who had broken her leg to clay cross branch. They insisted we wait for an hour and a half with a scared, stressed duck in a lot of pain and that there was no way we would be seen as an emergency. Of course we went elsewhere rather than put our duck through that ordeal. Disgusting attitude to us as long term customers. This was the final straw after being let down by them once before, when we went as an emergency with our dog who had managed to eat some chocolate. Avoid ! Very disappointed that they could miss how poorly our cat was. So expensive and they didn't solve why our cat was so unwell. In the first consultation the vet never checked her skin just incase the temp was related to a cat fight / wounds etc. Also after feeling her tummy as I mentioned about a strange abdomen pouch that never left after she was neutered at this surgery. It was laughed of to be just a chubby belly. I ended up calling Spire vets for a second opinion as she still wasn't well after being with Charlesworth 24 hours. The vet at Spire vets found within 10 minutes: - They shaved her back to find 2 additional wounds ( 3 in total ) - Also grey lines on her skin, which was a chronic under the skin infection that needed investigating. The grey lines is where the little veins had died and so has areas of skin because of this strange infection. - The '' chubby pouch '' ( bearing in mind she's only 9 months old and not overweight ) - was her INTESTINES !! NOT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE! - Which she needed a operation straight away to save the intestines from dying due to poor circulation. Unfortunately if I had read the bad reviews online and on their Facebook page I would of just taken the longer drive from our home to Spire Vets. Much cheaper and so professional. I did make a complaint to Charlesworth which was brushed off that it's unlikely of this to happen with the bite / cat fight wounds and her abdomen felt relaxed. Which we know is false as cat fights wounds soon get infected and her pouch already was present when she went to this surgery. I also have heard many locals speak poorly of the surgery with their experiences especially regarding neutering. My advice would be to avoid and find some where that isn't all about taking making as much money as possible. Our cat stayed over night, had blood tests, IV drip and two temp / anti inflammatory boosters which came to 238!! Spire verts was an emergency out of ours appointment, she stayed in for 6 nights, a few IV's, regular matacam and other boosters, Scan and Hernia operation, plus opened infected areas to help clean and heal, home care treatment for antibiotics and pain relief / anti inflammatory for two weeks, 3 check up appointments for 350! - Can't grumble at what they have charged for all of that and it speaks volumes Read Less

I cannot thank Peregrine and his team enough after today. Our dog Kipper went in this morning for a lump to be removed from his foot. When Peregrine saw him he said it did not look good and he had a 10% chance of a good outcome. We were gutted but told him to do everything he needed to get Kipper comfortable and it didn't matter about the cost. We have just picked Kipper up and the surgery went really well and he is fine. We still have results to get but we are just so grateful to still have him. When we got the bill, there was 125 taken off the bill because Peregrine thought it had gone too much over the estimate, even though we said the cost didn't matter. What a star!! Thank you again.

Wouldn't even give one star. Missed multiple injuries so ended up paying for bloods that weren't needed. Then a Second checked and found 1 injury, after we paid for the bloods. We then took our pet to another vets as she was still no better than before and they have now found multiple bite marks and an internal rupture that was completely missed by 2 vets at this place and now treating her accordingly. Absolutely brilliant vets, we've had a total of 4 dogs registered with them so far and will always use them, one suffered really bad from epilepsy for 18 months before we finally lost him to the horrible illness and we couldn't have wished for more help and support from Peregrine and the team. It's not about the money, it's all about the care for the animals which these guys have in abundance, I take my hat off to all of them and will be using them for many years to come. Read Less

Fantastic vets. Very helpful with emergency appointment payments. Kitty went for surgery and they even called to update me because I was nervous. 5*

Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are excellent for getting you in to see vet if you're worried. All the vets , nurses and reception people are warm and friendly.
