Mixed review so only three stars. Our dogs are registered at the Plymstock branch and they have been great so far. One of my dogs needed an XRay at the vet hospital in Estover and whilst they did a good job from a professional point of view, I felt the way in which I was delivered the bad news about my dogs prognosis was a bit careless. I was informed of my dogs degenerative back condition over the phone and the vets words were 'He is on borrowed time' Given my dog is only two this was hard, but I was shown the Xrays so I could see the vets findings - fair enough and appreciated they explained the prognosis. However, when I questioned the vet as to just how long my dog 'had left' she went on to say that she meant he wouldn't live to be an old dog. Now to me, borrowed time means the dog had only a short time left to live. I was pretty put out as I had been crying hysterically following my phone conversation earlier that day with the vet. The vet also said the dogs condition was inoperable, but yet the next day I get a call off said vet saying, after speaking to a specialist they think an MRI and op might do the trick afterall. I felt confused and quite honestly distraught. We do have insurance for our dogs, thank goodness but decided to take a more holistic approach to helping our lovely dog, by way of acupuncture. We have have used Adam, the in house acupuncturist to ease the discomfort and Adam has been really re-assuring, and I have the utmost faith in what he's doing as he's achieved remarkable results with my dog. I cannot thank Adam enough. Also, on a plus point I would like to give a special mention to Olivia, the receptionist at both the Plymstock & Lipson branches. She always remembers our dog by name and makes a real fuss of him. That's a nice touch as she must see an awful amount of pets! Overall I am happy with the Veterinary Group, but I would only use the vet hospital in Estover as a last resort. The receptionists there are a bit rude to be honest. One time my husband was there and the girls were making facial gestures to each other as my husband had complained about something. Now that is not acceptable. Read Less

I've been to this out of hours Vet clinic twice now, I had to take my aging cat (she's 17) to have her looked at as my usual Vet wasnt open, I was told my cat had cystitis which can be common in cats especially on a dry food diet , it was an expensive trip but the results were precise and correct medication was dispensed for her. My second visit 3 months after my first was for the same reasons - this time around I was advised to move my cat onto wet food to prevent this happening again and I also bought a bigger medication bottle to allow self medication from home, the vet nurse was really very nice and she was very attentive , there was no rush to get my cat out of the door as soon as possible and she didn't try to suggest me buying anything aside what my cat needed. A few days later my cat displayed the same symptoms again , this time I rang as it had cost a fair bit of money to get her medicated out of hours, I spoke to a male vet who talked me through my options and possible causes for my cat's condition which we eventually narrowed down to stress, from this advice she has been fine up to now and I'm very happy that my cat is now on the road to recovery - it maybe expensive but for out of hours help for your pet, you're in safe hands with these guys and gals. He has to get a lump removed from his back leg and the after care was brilliant and for the vet care i would go back again without hesitating. Apart from that the rest of it was a disgrace , my dog was discharged and it was left in the hands of the insurance to pay..i already knew i would have to pay some of the cost. Within a day i had a call and the person at the end of the phone had no care for my dog and without anything else being said wanted the bill paid on full there and then. The care and expertise shown by Pru the Vet, Karen the Vet Nurse and everyone else involved in caring and looking after our poorly Sun Conure, Sol was second to none during his 48 hour stay. Communication was fantastic and he received the correct tests and treatment at the right time. They were reassuring while also being realistic about the situation. Thankfully little Sol pulled through and we were able to take him home. Pru remained in touch with us for several days afterwards. Finding a good Avian Vet is difficult in this area, but Pru knew exactly what to do. Thank you all so much from all of us, Rachel, Phil & Sol xx PS We're told that Sol made quite a few fans during his stay so if you'd like to see more of him, his Instagram name is sollythesun.Read Less

Brilliant service, friendly and helpful staff. I 100% recommend this practice as it provides proper overnight care for inpatients, and they are able to perform complicated treatment even for exotic pets, e.g. invasive diagnostic surgery on a small reptile. It's usually easy to get an appointment, and the practice is on a clear bus route which stops right outside, as well as having a car park. This surgery takes its clients and their animals seriously. Especially recommended if you have exotic animals or pets with complex conditions! Read Less

Unfortunately my cat went missing last Tuesday which I then found him late afternoon on Saturday, he had been run over by a car. I came into this surgery in a right state almost falling to my knees carrying my baby. They ladies instantly took him from me as I was begging them to help and put him on oxygen and a heat pad. I only waited ten minutes but it felt a lifetime, the vet then called me into her room and explained my baby's injuries and gave me two options, I chose to have my baby put down that afternoon. I could barely hold myself up though the heart break of it all as this cat is and always will be my best friend. The vet 'Katie' supported me the whole time and reassured me the whole time. I am sorry to the surgery for the way they saw me that day, but I can't thank them enough for helping me and helping me to put my baby out of pain. RIP BEARRead Less

Quite simply the best veterinary surgery in Plymouth, possibly in all of Devon. Amazing care given to pets and owners, in-house laboratory, scans, x-ray, and ward provides total care.

Read Less

Just wanted to say 'thank you' from my partner and me for the way you handled the last few days of our beloved Maddie. The locum vet Tess was extremely supportive and reassured us that we had done all we could, and Lorena arranged for us to see Maddie one more time before she was cremated and her ashes returned to us. Throughout the difficult process, your staff communicated with us really well and kept us informed, and we also noted the number of actions listed on Maddie's records as they tried to keep her alive. Thank you again for all you did. Read Less

Wouldn't recommend for reptile care - wanted to surgically remove 2 eggs from our leopard gecko. After a lot of consultation from breeders we declined the operation (receiving a lot of guilt tripping from the veterinary nurse) and brought our gecko home, where she then proceeded to lay her 2 normal eggs and is now recovering nicely Read Less

I would not trust anyone else with my pets. The staff are fantastic and I really feel that you consider how we are feeling, not just the pets. My cat's been in a few times and I always get regular calls to update me how he is getting on, even if there is nothing new to say it is still so thoughtful and reassuring. Something you do t have to do but makes such a difference! Amazing people.
