Priors Farm Equine Surgery

Priors Farm Equine Surgery is situated in the village of Forest Row, south of East Grinstead in East Sussex. Established in 1978 the practice was taken over in 2008 by Ben Chilvers and Duncan Harrison, and now comprises a team of four dedicated equine veterinary surgeons. We are an exclusively equine practice carrying out first and second opinion work, as well as taking referrals from other local veterinary surgeons and we take great pride in providing a high quality service to all of our patients whether they are top level competition horses or family pets. Donkeys are more than welcome! Over the years we have built a reputation for being caring and compassionate, and we aim to spend as much time as possible getting to know our patients as individuals in order to tailor our services to their particular needs.
We are a purpose built equine hospital with full range of up-to-date diagnostic and surgical facilities. Stabling and 24-hour nursing care is available to enable us to cater for you and your horse’s needs.
In March 2007 we opened our new support facility Malthouse Barn Equine Clinic. The facility is located in Streat near Hassocks, West Sussex. This exciting development was inspired by the increasing demand for a local equine practice in the South Downs area.
On Wednesday’s we offer a zoning scheme whereby you can reduce your visit fee to £9.50. Please telephone the practice for ways in which you can reduce your visit fee for routine work.
We are proud that Priors Farm Equine Surgery has attained the RCVS’s Equine General practice standard. This has placed Priors Farm as one of the few equine practices in the area to have been inspected and approved by the RCVS.
We are also delighted to have attained approval as a Veterinary Nurse Training Practice.

I have been using Priors Farm Equine Vets since May 2016 and have found the care, attention to detail, pragmatism and kindness of Ben and all the staff second to none. From the office staff processing insurance claims and renewals immediately, the friendliness of the nursing staff, their kindness and support when things didn't work out as hoped, to the excellent work of the highly skilled vets, I really couldn't have hoped or asked for a more professional, excellent service. No one likes having to call the vet out but the whole team at Priors make the experience as painless as possible, from start to end. I really cannot praise this practice more highly, and I would (and have) recommend them to any one where the level of care and service they and their horses receive is of paramount importance to them.

I have been using Priors since May 2016 and have found the care, attention to detail, pragmatism and kindness of Ben and all the staff second to none. From the office staff processing insurance claims immediately, the friendliness of the nursing staff, their support when things didn't turn out as planned, to the excellent work of the highly skilled Ben; no one likes having to see the vet but the whole team make the experience more pleasurable. Highly recommended top equine veterinary team.

We have used Priors Farm since it was originally first opened by Philip Glyn. Who was truly fantastic. Since the surgery was taken over, the standards have only got better. Duncan and Ian mainly see my ponies and they always go above and beyond. Always on the end of the phone to answer questions, there at the drop of a hat for emergencies and always have a friendly and helpful manner (no matter how ridiculous my questions are!!) I always feel at ease knowing my horses are in their care. Thank You

We cannot thank Priors Farm enough and in particular Ben Chilvers for coming to our rescue while transporting horses to France from Scotland. What was a stressful situation for us was immediately eased by Ben's professional and easy manner. He returned calls and reassured us that everything was going to be fine and it was! The office staff were also very friendly and efficient. Thank you

As first timers (first horse we have owned!) can't praise the practise enough for the care and attention paid to us when we brought our mare in for lameness issues From the offer of coffee on arrival, to Carina's assured presence from the first during all the tests we went through, to Sam looking after Scarlet at the end when she was coming out of sedation, to letting us have a box to put her travelling companion in, but most especially to Ben! who went out of his way to explain what happened next, what he was doing and why, what he was seeing and then explaining the results and our possible courses of action. Lovely smiley people and very reassuring in possibly traumatic times. x

Wonderful caring professional vets, nurses and reception team who support you all the way and never give up . I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially Ian for his care and support right to the end treating my special boy with care and dignity as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

We have used Priors Farm since it was originally first opened by Philip Glyn. Who was truly fantastic. Since the surgery was taken over, the standards have only got better. Duncan and Ian mainly see my ponies and they always go above and beyond.
