Awful, naked profiteers. Take your pet anywhere else. I first became annoyed at Wilbury when they kept raising the price of Nexguard (monthly flea/worming treatment)by around 50% every few months. When I checked the cost of buying it online I found that it was half price so I asked Wilbury just for the prescription instead. At first they charged £9 just to print out the prescription! That was bad enough but the savings on the actual medication made it still worth it. Then the prescription went up to £12 (this is just for a sheet of A4 being printed) and most recently its now £18!! 100% increase in price over the course of a year or so. This is the least of it though. If their veterinary care was as thorough as their fleecing of their customers at least that would be something, but I think they are only concerned with the bottom line. Our dog has had two major problems over the last few years. The first being growths between her toes which were completely misdiagnosed by Wilbury as a dietary issue. This caused us a huge amount of expense and an incredible amount of hardship (making sure our dog ate NOTHING accept this special food for weeks on end, until we got a second opinion from a skin specialist who very quickly told us it was nothing to do with diet). More seriously, our dog recently got Glaucoma. We brought her to Wilbury when she was obviously suffering from something but after a quick 'check-up' (no tests of any kind - no bloods etc) we were sent away being told she was fine. Having not been spotted the Glaucoma got worse and was only diagnosed by another vets when it was too late and she has now lost an eye, gone completely blind and will probably lose the other one. My heart is broken. We go to the other vet now as much as possible but its a long drive so a couple of times we have got her eye medication from Wilbury. The other vet (near Worthing) charge us £7.50 for a bottle of Latanoprost. Wilbury charge £69!! It sounds like a joke. Its not. They are extortion artists. I hope if you have a new pet and you are choosing vets you read this rather than all the 5 star reviews about how they "stock a wide selection of pet-food and accessories!" because when you pet gets seriously ill, Wilbury are only here for your money; and they will take as much of it as they think they can get away with. Dear Mr Ashton, I'm sorry you have been unhappy with our service. I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you in person about the issues you have experienced. Pease do call me whenever suits. Your, Peter Haggis, Director, Wilbury Vets
Response from Wilbury Vets

Private prescriptions are charged for at all vets and reflect the fact that a vet is responsible for the appropriate prescribing of medication. Online pharmacies have massive buying power and as a small independent practice all our medications are sourced from our wholesaler, which inevitably charge more. The expensive eye medication was sourced for you from our wholesaler and it may be your other practice have found a cheaper supplier if they buy in bulk. The skin issue you describe can indeed be caused by dietary intolerance and I gather initially there had been a response to treatment including a special diet. You were recommended to see a skin specialist to make sure the best treatment was being offered. I cannot see you were seen at Wilbury since April 2022 prior to the glaucoma episode in June 2022, when you were seen at another specialist practice? Please do contact me directly to see if we can resolve this issue. Kind regards Peter Haggis

I cannot begin to tell you how heartbroken and livid I am about the treatment I received from Wilbury vets for my pet Bambi a show winning Pharaoh hound. She went in for a routine spay and 12 hours later collapsed not breathing screaming in pain. I Scramble to the phone to call the emergency services who I didn't realise we're over 30 minutes away. In hindsight I would never choose a vet who didn't have their own emergency services. Results of this the emergency vet had no history for the dog and was working purely on a trial and error basis. As a result of all this who had to put it to sleep I can give you full details if you'd like to PM me for details. I would not recommend this vet for sighthounds or anyone who needs a blood test prior to anaesthetic which is highly advisable not expensive and should be offered to clients particularly with sighthounds had I known this my dog may possibly be alive today.Thank you guys for reading my review be aware of it what you said to me on private message in case there's any issue of liability or liable for court case. Just also be very prudent with what9 insurance company you are with as we have paid out over £4,000 for her emergency care only to receive a letter from the insurance company stating that they will not pay the amount outstanding due to complications of the spaying postoperatively and a diagnosis of hypoxia which is left us with the bill Read Less

This surgery is small but very well kept and clean in a very convenient location . The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the vet we saw was great, showed a genuine love for animals , reassured us, and our cat calmed down immediately . The surgery is well stocked with a wide selection of cat's supplies so we did not have to shop around for food etc. They also send a reminder each month for flea treatments, have a good insurance plan and lots of offers and promotions all the time. The reason I am not giving 5 stars, is because we had to wait for our appointment far too long, nearly 45 minutes delay. The vet seemed to be the only one in the surgery that day. I understand each case is assessed carefully without hurry, and emergencies cases jump the queue, but rather than real cases of emergencies , pet owners seemed to just pop by the surgery while walking their pets in the area or were residents nearby already known by the vet, two went ahead of us when we attended and it did feel rather confusing and disorganized ). With a nervous cat in a box, and other pets around in the same predicament, it is rather unpleasant so something should be done with the vet staffing and appointment system. Roberta HoadRead Less

From the very first check up Wilbury Vets spotted a slight heart murmur in one of our cats, Bear. We monitored this but unfortunately it turned out to be the early indicator of a congential diaphragmatic hernia. The implications and all options were explained in detail. Surgery was the only real alternative to taking a risk with his life. Reluctant to take Bear to a specialist miles away - where not only would the cost be double but I wouldn't be able to visit Bear regularly - Wilbury Vets agreed to carry out the operation themselves, despite the complex nature of the surgery. They were totally professional, kept me informed at all times and were clearly concerned about Bear the whole time. INFLATED PRICES!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND SHOP AROUND!!! Im surprised to read all these positive reviews... We were quoted an extortionate price, last time we visited for a fairly basic procedure. I went home and phoned other local practices and was quoted less than half the price! Also vaccinations, boosters, and flea treatment were almost double the price! They tell me its to cover admin costs...Sorry Im not buying it! PLEASE SHOP AROUND THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER AND CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES IN HOVE It sickens me to know that Wilbury Vets have been ripping us off for so many years. I complained to the management as the last time I came, I was dealt with very poorly. But thats another story. (Rude vet - very unprofessional) Peter called me up to apologise and used this comparison 'its a question whether you want Tescos or the local deli round the corner' What an appalling, arrogant comment to make!! I knew then it was time to go! The condition of the waiting room leave a lot to be desired-very shabby, with crackling classical music blaring out of dodgy speakers. Also I was fed up with seeing different vets every time, having to tediously explain my cats ailments..I saw around 12-15 vets in 5 years - so inconsistent ! We are now at a much better practice round the corner with honest prices and friendly staff and only 2 vets so I can get to know them. Please dont waste your money like I did! * MESSAGE TO CHARLIE WALKER you work here, its hardly a fair review!! Read Less

You get a good long consultaion but i found the vet nice but scatty and had to press/insist for detail and explanations of medication and treatments. They do not talk to you about money, costs or explain prices unless you ask which unless you are assertive can give you a bit of a shock when you go to pay. I found them a little too interested in selling you expensive food and products and a little light on the detailed care side. To be honest the big sell everytime i went in was tedious and the lack of explanation about costs also got on my nerves a bit. I did highlight this to the practice owner but got no reply. They are OK but i have had much better and will be moving to another vet after 6 months with them. Read Less

23 Aug 2022

I went home and phoned other local practices and was quoted less than half the price! Also vaccinations, boosters, and flea treatment were almost double the price! I will be moving on from this practice. Some staff are friendly some are frosty.
