I phoned Fitzalan vets Littlehampton regarding my 14 year old border terrier cross Xena as she has just started wetting around the house, I asked the receptionist how much they charged for Propalin Syrup for which the receptionist replied £60 I told her that I could get this product from pets online for £22.00 so asked for a prescription which they charge £13.00 The receptionist said I had to see the vet first so I made an appointment. When I arrived at the vets I told the vet the problem I was having and wanted to try this Propalin Syrup but she asked me if I wanted to have Xena’s blood tested which would cost £160.00 I said no and I wanted to try Propalin Syrup first to see if this product helped Xena with her problem. The vet said she wanted to look at Xena first, after 8 to 10 minutes the vet came back with Xena and said she was fine but again asked me about a blood test or urine test I said no and just wanted the Propalin Syrup. When I phoned to pay I was surprised when the receptionist told me the bill was £59.00. When I asked why it was so high she told me the consultation was £46.00 and the prescription was £13.00. How can you justify charging £46.00 for just looking at a dog? When I said to the receptionist it was disgusting charging that amount, she replied that’s the way it is. These vets need to be investigated for their disgusting and vulgar prices. It seems to me that it’s no longer the animals welfare they are interested in but how much they can charge and make as much money as they can out of people. From a very angry and annoyed customer. A long story but I moved here from another vet who had treated my cat for the last 8 months and she had continued to deteriorate as they had no idea what was wrong. One look at my cat by a Fitzalan vet and I had a probable name for her condition. Sadly it was too late to save her and she had to be put down. With the correct treatment she may well have made a full recovery. I was impressed with the expertise and kindness of the staff.
