General Info
We are a large and well equipped practice with nine experienced vets and we can deal with the needs of all types of pet, from hamsters to iguanas, from dwarf rabbits to giant dogs and from Amazon parrots to Bengal cats!
Established in 1947, and originally based in outbuildings behind a house in Military Road in the Newtown area of Colchester, the Colne Valley Veterinary Practice moved into our current, large and purpose built premises in 1998. Built over two floors and with five spacious consulting rooms our veterinary surgery has been designed with our patients in mind.
We aim to be the friendliest, most caring and generally the best vets in Colchester that your pet can have so why not browse our site or better still, come down to our surgery at the Hythe and drop in for a visit.

A great veterinary place to go to you'll find that the staff are very friendly and helpful and the vets and nurses take great care of the animals they are seeing or needing to operate on they are the worth 5*. My parents took the dogs we had growing up to the same vets when they only had a small practice elsewhere near where they are now and we've gone with them from the old place to the huger practice they have as the amount of staff and patients grew bigger and bigger and continue to grow, my family has stuck with the same vet all these years so John has seen all the dogs we've had throughout the 42 years we've had dogs. I have been having rescue dogs of my own for 18 years now as I am living alone and a few of mine saw John but as he's overflowing with patients I had whichever one was free til January and my Rosie who is weary of men she doesn't know as she's rescue and her brother passed away last year we found that she likes Ben so now I take her to see him. But you'll be pleased with whichever one you see they all do a great job at this vets.

I have used this vets for many years, and have always been satisfied with the knowledgeable and polite staff. Appointments are available at quite short notice especially if the condition is urgent. Prices can be higher than at some other vets but the service given warrants it.

A veterinary centre that cares. Its clear when the vets examine your animals that you're not just a customer number, but someone who is concerned about a member of their family. All the staff are friendly. caring and importantly, give you time. It doesn't matter if you need to ask one more question to be reassured, or ask that silly question you should know.
The staff are knowledgeable about a wide range of animals - not just the usual cats, dogs and rabbits.
Appointment reminders are sent via text, and annual reminders for boosters and vaccinations are also sent out.
The centre is easy to get to with an ample car park.

The vets and all staff here are amazing. Everyone is kind and caring and I trust them completely with my dogs. I wouldn't want to take my pets anywhere else.

Although I've lost both of my dogs now and no longer come to the vets I felt I must write a review as to say how good I felt the service was when I used to come with my two boxers Billy and Sasha. All the staff were amazing especially john who used to see them both frequently due to them having quite a few medical problems. Nothing was too much trouble and I wouldn't hesitate to bring any future pets here even though I live in harwich, it is worth the journey.

The vets are great not a bad word , the receptionist on the other hand are horrid because of them I will not ever come back , a few yrs back my dogs got out and attacked another dog ( yes my thought not my boys hands held totally high ) I went down to pay the bill for the bruised dog , for the vets to say to make "take it u have staffs " rude and judgmental , I let it go but yet again I spoke to them to b abrupt with me .my partner popped down there due to my dog being scared of firework for them to speak down to him .thats it because of them I now don't feel comfortable to see the vets themselfs very sad xx

Excellent, first class service. We've seen three of the vets .. all of whom have been kind to our dog and cat, especially the cat who has been quite poorly. They put our minds at rest and treated us and the animals with the utmost care. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them; all the staff are really kind and caring. Animals can't speak, but humans can speak for them ~ our animals were treated with love and tenderness. Special thanks to Alison, Ben and John. From Sooty and Gypsy - meow and woof.

A great veterinary place to go to you'll find that the staff are very friendly and helpful and the vets and nurses take great care of the animals they are seeing or needing to operate on they are the worth 5*. Although I've lost both of my dogs now and no longer come to the vets I felt I must write a review as to say how good I felt the service was when I used to come with my two boxers Billy and Sasha. All the staff were amazing especially john who used to see them both frequently due to them having quite a few medical problems. Nothing was too much trouble and I wouldn't hesitate to bring any future pets here even though I live in harwich, it is worth the journey.
