I first met John Ferguson over 5 years ago with our first male lab Dexter who was 7 months old at the time, the prognosis for him was bleak as his ankles were in a bad way as well as having elbow problems. We left with a management plan until he was over a year old which he coped well on until nearly 2 then he had his first op done to fuse his ankle, the second op was done about 6 months later and gave our boy a life of pain free running which he had never known in his short 2 years of life. When our second male started having problems with his legs my own vets were certain it was not the same problem but I asked if they could send the results to John anyway and ask for his opinion. John phoned me later that day and sadly he did have the same condition and would most likely need a fusion done on at least one of his legs. Fast forward 2 years and now both my boys have had both hocks fused and have recovered well each time. I cannot thank John and his staff enough, they explained everything and I felt safe that my dogs were in the best possible hands they could be, John explained the ops again to me even though I had been through it twice before. Once again a big massive thank you from us Dexter & Bruce Read Less

Yesterday morning I came up to tell you that my beautiful dog, Alfie, has been euthanised the previous evening. Despite having been registered at the East Neuk Veterinary Clinic since 2011 I had to go to Eden Vets as there was no way was I going to travel all the way from St Monans to Kirkcaldy to attend your Vets Now out of hours service over 45 mins away with a dog in a seizure. I managed to get Alf home after a consult but he commenced another seizure just after ten o'clock and I again contacted Eden Vets to get a home visit as stated earlier I did not want Alf to endure such a long journey in seizure, a visit which ultimately resulted in me losing my best friend. It was unhurried and done with compassion and I was left heartbroken. Today I wanted to speak with my own vet to reassure myself that I had made the right decision and that there would have been nothing else I could have done. I was told by the Receptionist that she would ask John Ferguson to call me as he was currently busy, I went home still in tears with no closure. There I waited for this phone call that never materialised. Alf had two TPLO operations at the clinic costing close to £5500 and also attended for his annual vaccinations and other minor ailments yet this does not seem to matter, you had the money and that is where the interest stops. I was beginning to get a feeling about how the clinic was going when John Ferguson refused to operate on Alf's second ruptured cruciate ligament until he was paid up front despite Alf being fully insured, instead he was content to let Alf suffer and be in pain. In fact the veterinary husband of the locum vet both whom work at the East Neuk Vet Clinic basically told his wife when she went through the back to discuss the case with him that there was nothing they could do until he could get his operation and had Alf been a footballer they would merely put it in a support and provide crutches. I don't even think he would have given pain relief, an old school vet, thankfully his wife did but the attitude shocked me. Tonight has confirmed my thoughts that the clinic no longer cares for it's clients or their pets despite ironically claiming it has high standards of patient and customer care, or maybe it only likes the ones that are its favourites. I feel extremely let down and disappointed by this clinic and I have no doubt that you will delete this post, but just maybe you should look again at why you are in this business. Read Less

My dog loki (labrador pointer cross) was hit by a car, partially rupturing his cruciate ligament, then 3months later while swimming with me he kicked a boulder beneath him and tore it completely!! When taken to East neuk vets he had a t.p.l.o (tibial plateau leveling operation) to help him live a decent life! I understood this was a big operation, and because of the size and energy levels of loki it maybe a short term fix, at least resulting in arthritic symptoms!! It has since been three and a half years and I'm delighted to say loki is better than ever greyhound fast has a 7foot leap & swims like a seal! Both my other bitches love him leading the pack again! So thank you with all my heart for giving my dog / dogs a new lease of life very much appreciated!!!! Read Less

Very thankful to John Ferguson and his team for the wonderful care and help they have provided over the last year for my border collie Glen. My local vet diagnosed Glen with bilateral hip dysplasia when he was just 7 months old. We were referred to John last summer for a consultation appointment where he took X-rays and did the necessary investigations. The right hip was a candidate for salvage surgery, so it was arranged for Glen to stay over night at the practice and have his first operation the next morning. Glen recovered well after surgery and within 12 weeks he had a perfect right hip! He was coping well with having the one good hip so we let him enjoy life until we felt it was necessary to get the hip replacement done on his left side. This takes us up to April this year, when I noticed that Glen had started to show some stiffness. So along we popped to East Neuk to see John and it was agreed that it was time to perform the hip replacement. Eight weeks on and Glen has just had his checkup appointment and things are looking fantastic! Throughout this stressful and upsetting time John has been a complete hero; not just in terms of his expertise (which has obviously played the biggest part!), but also in how he has been so calm and reassuring. It really have me the confidence to stay strong whilst all this scary stuff was happening to my poor puppy. The reception staff are all wonderful and caring and always ready to listen to any worries/questions you have, even the stupid stuff. John was always there to talk to if you needed his guidance on anything. He even brought one of my appointments forward to give me peace of mind over something which was bothering me - turned out to be nothing at all, but he wanted me to be reassured so kindly squeezed us in a week early. They are all very sympathetic. It speaks volumes that Glen was desperate to get into the clinic today - he obviously has good memories of the staff there, as I literally have to drag him into our local vets! Read Less

Sadly did not have a good experience recently at East Neuk Vets. Took my working cocker along with a broken toe only to find after investigation and x rays that they bandaged and supported the wrong foot! Everyone makes mistakes and making amends is a big part of this process as is listening to your clients. An apology was issued but sadly my feelings were not listened to.Listening is a skill that unfortunately was not present and I was told on two occasions by both practice manager and owner that I should be happy as there was no extra cost to redo the support and bandages! I would have expected no less! Left wondering if the value of making money takes precedent over client care :-( Read Less
