I took my cat in to Clockhouse today as I couldn't get into Simply Pets on an emergency and I am very disappointed at how we were treated. Our cat has severe hyperthyroidism with a very high count.Sadly, the vet seemed very inexperienced and didn't listen to what I told him about how seriously ill my cat is. The vet suggested an overnight stay with a drip, pain killers, blood tests and urine tests for £550. When I explained that on a low income that we simply couldn't afford it and if a concession could be made , i just got an immediate no. The vet showed no empathy or compassion for my cat or for how worried we are no would he give an honest diagnosis about how long our cat has to live. As owners who love and adore our cat, we need to be told the truth for ethical reasons. It is not ethical to prolong a cats treatment or suggested treatment for financial and commercial reasons. To top it all, when leaving I was asked to return into the vets with her regular prescribed tablets for her Hyperthyroidism, otherwise they would charge us...for two tablets!!! Unbelievable. I have consulted others who use local vets and they all agree that a concession should be offered or payment plan. Neither was offered. If you are going to charge lots of money -make sure the service is A1, compassionate and ethical. I am very upset. Update: 19/4/18- What a nasty veterinary group you are. I only came to you in an emergency as I couldn't get into your 'sister practice' Vets for Pets in Stroud and today you've sent a letter by recorded delivery telling me I'm not allowed to use Vets for Pets any longer. Again, have you considered the ethical implications of making a cat go into another vets that they have to start again with diagnosis and relationships? How petty and nasty -because I complained online and questioned your ethics and high charges. The professional thing to do would be to apologise and listen to your customers. A warning to people reading reviews, Clockhouse has a bad reputation locally as being only about the money, so don't make the same mistake. Read Less

25+ Years with them & no complaints! My family I love our cats, over the years at least 10 have been through the doors of this practice (From Landsdown days to Clockhouse now). Surgery wise - amazing - one of my cats at 7 months old was hit by a speeding car - her injuries were possibly life threatening, it was out of hours, but by the time we had arrived, so had a vet called Pablo. He took over immediately. Muffin had a shattered pelvis, broken leg & tail. It was a surgery v euthanasia option TBH. Pablo felt he could put her back together, I trusted him & his team. They rebuilt her pelvis (4mm thick & incredibly fragile!) - and in 3 days Muffin was home in a large dog cage to keep her from running about. She has not looked back since & is now 10 years old. The entire practice are on the whole very friendly, capable, kind & compassionate. They have helped me with tiny babies, through to end of life injections - making sure I had recovered enough to drive home safely. I would recommend this practice to anyone. The fees may be a little higher than others, but (a BIG BUT!) they are an animal HOSPITAL, open 24/7 for emergencies, visits to see those in the hospital, & for a 'phone call to a nurse on call if you just want to check out of something is an emergency or if it can wait until the next surgery time. They even open for 2 hours of surgery on a Sunday. I'm exceptionally grateful to ALL the team that make up the practice, and hope our long friendship continues. If your animal is unwell - they really DO all they can to help. Read Less

I am very unhappy with the level of service I have received recently from this practice. My cat was recently diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and despite the receptionist telling me her urine test results were back, I had to spend the next two days calling to try to get someone to tell me what they were. When I finally got to speak with someone it was a vet (I will not name him). He attempted to explain the results and the next steps but came across as totally incompetent and garbled, sounding as if he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. I then got a call from another vet who was execllent (Lizzie) and explained everything in great detail including the estimated costs. However, when I booked my cat in for her scan the following week, someone had added 100 to the estimate, which I later found out was for blood tests that she'd already had! I called the day before taking her in and asked what this extra cost was for and the receptionist said there would be a vet to ask at 7.30am the next day when I took her in. When I arrived the next day, I asked if the vet was available and was told that a vet wouldn't be in 'til 8am! The nurse was also clearly completely unaware of what my cat was actually in for and said she was having a heart scan! I had to explain that it was for her kidneys and abdomen...clearly no-one had read the notes! There were numerous other details that various staff members told me that conflicted with what the vet had said and, after all that, the vet who I thought was doing the scan (Lizzie, who had been dealing with her) had gone on holiday... I am seriously considering taking my cat and registering her somewhere else. I am very unhappy with the totally inconsistent care/advice that I received on this occasion and unfortunately, this is the time I needed to have good care as my cat is sick.. Not impressed! I would give 10 stars if I could! The friendliness, attention and care my little dog and I received from all members of staff constantly for 2 months was exemplary. The vets I dealt with couldn't have been more helpful, whether in consultation at the hospital or via phone calls, in or out of opening hours. Nothing was too much trouble. They understood my particular difficulties and did everything in their power to help me with all aspects of my dog's treatment. Their professionalism is second to none and their empathy has restored my faith in human beings. I will be eternally grateful for everything the vets, the nurses and the clerical staff did for me and Belgie. Unfortunately Belgie didn't make it but it wasn't for the lack of trying, or the care he received. He was given 2 extra months of quality life he wouldn't have had otherwise, and some wonderful walks for me to remember. If you are searching for a vet then look no further than Clockhouse because, in my experience and opinion, they cannot be beaten, anywhere. Many thanks to you all xx Read Less

If I could rate it lower, I would. Firstly, the receptionist was rude upon my arrival and she was genuinely very unpleasant and sarcastic with me. Not a good first impression to the vets at all! Secondly, none of the vets seem to have any idea how to handle small animals. I have 3 degus, one of which needs to have his teeth filed down on a regular basis and the vet I initially saw thought that his teeth were perfectly fone when they were very clearly not. (baring in mind that I had taken him to a different vet for months before I moved house so I knew when to file the teeth and when not). I re-booked an appointment for a week later after deciding that I would be able to monitor his teeth and check that they were not too long (thankfully, I was not charged for this conversation). When I arrived a week later, being worried that his teeth are now way too long, I had a different vet try to tell me that his teeth were fine but I didn't stand for it this time. I had her compare his teeth to another one of my degus without the problem and only now was she convinced that they needed trimming. After waiting in the waiting room for what seemed like forever, she came back out with the degu and called me back into the vets room. She then proceeded to tell me that she had somehow managed fracture part of his jaw when filing the teeth down. She went to show me the jaw and to my shock I saw that the teeth were way to far down and that they'd been filed down to a near-nonexistent stump. I then found out I was charged 44 for the whole of this. I was charged 8 at my previous vet and they all did a b***dy site better job than they did. Will not be returning.

Read Less

So, my dog is in a lot of pain at the moment, and we were waiting for results which they said we would find out on Monday. Lies! It is now Wednesday in that space something could've happened to my dog and we wouldn't have known why! It's terrible, and then the nurse that was dealing with the situation wasn't working the day after, so we've had to wait for results whilst my dog isn't in pain! I'm not in the slightest happy and I think that's dreadful that no one has called! The audacity!Read Less

Read Less
