I felt that the ‘Free’ consultation was an opportunity to hard sell other procedures that I didn’t feel were relevant or necessary. It is not the same company that I visited previously. AVOID this vet at all costs. I have never experienced such an appalling treatment of animals and humans alike. We reluctantly took our vet to Clerkenwell Animal Hospital this evening because our cat was limping. I say reluctantly because we had a bad experience here last year when they tried to put our cat through unnecessary, extortionate surgery for cancer, which turned out to be a fatty lump and not cancer at all. This evening we met Adrian, who grabbed at our cats skin and told us she was overweight. That she would have diabetes in 2 years time, and by the age of 7 would be irreversibly sick and riddled with health problems. This is not our normal vet, we have never been told our cat is overweight. Our cat is a British Shorthair - they are known for being much bigger than other breeds, but Adrian clearly had no experience. Our cat has never once hissed at us in 2 years. When Adrian began to examine her, she was absolutely distraught, and this was not due to being in pain, which the vet confirmed, and said she was scared! He forcefully pushed on her spine 5 times which was obviously very uncomfortable due to how she was reacting. He then proceeded to forcefully move her legs. She was terrified because of how grossly Adrian was treating her. Grabbing, manhandling, prodding, pressing. We will be reporting Adrian to the RCVS, this practice should be shut down for the negligence of care to animals, and downright audacious treatment of pet owners who come to them out of desperation for the love of their companions and trust their ‘professional’ opinion. This practice prey on pet owners willingness to do anything to care for their animals. Had I allowed Adrian to continue manhandling my cat, we would have probably left with another appointment for a completely unnecessary procedure. Appalling, horrible place. Would have 0 stars if it was possible. Read Less

I've been with this vet for 3 years until today when I needed the service of the Bloomsbury site in Grays Inn Rd. Avoid these thieves at all cost. Wanted to charge 50 for giving our dog our own worm tablet, and stamp her passport plus 69 for a fit to fly certificate. Money grabbers! No concept of working in the community just interested in lining their pockets. They tried to say this is stabdard prices although the Clerkenwell branch never charged me like this when I was with them. When I called Amwell Vet up the road , I was quoted a totally reasonable price of 37 all inclusive. Absolutely livid with Bloomsbury Vet after hearing how much they try to over charge! Especially as our pet had just been to see the vet for treatment costing over 130 they just want more! Must be a Conservative lot running that place. My two year old cat was very ill last year and after we were referred to various vets in and around London, including the Royal Veterinary College's Queen Mother Hospital, I have to say Clerkenwell was the best all-around experience we've had. Their bedside manner is unmatched and their veterinary doctors were the only ones who weren't hesitant to perform a life-saving surgery on Hobbes, as he wasn't responding well to repeated less-invasive procedures.  It's been about 8 months post-surgery now and Hobbes is fully recovered and healthy (hoping he stays this way).  I am truly grateful for the staff at Clerkenwell.  We worked with Ronnie R. and highly recommend him.  Big thanks to Ronnie for everything you did for Hobbes and everything you continue to do for other loved pets! Our cat was showing signs of discomfort, for no apparent reason. Since we moved to the area recently, we didn't have a vet in place so we called the nearest: Clerkenwell Animal Hospital. They managed to fit us in the same day (Sunday!) and we booked her in for the next day. They also arranged for our cat's medical records to be transferred from the previous vet. It was a really nice vet office, with lots of different food and toys - which shows how much they care. They also provided nutrition advice because our cat needs to lose a few grams around her belly. The dental procedure the cat had went smooth, and they notified us on how she did and what they found. Lots of attention and care of animals is very evident in this vet and it has a nice feel. Parking is a tad tricky, but just ask reception and they will give you the solution. Sometimes the security people (nothing to do with the vet) are a bit funny, but they will let you in through the first barrier when you push the call button and announce you are there for the vet. Overall, my cat is doing so much better, and she's back to her happy self.Read Less

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at Clerkenwell Animal Hospital. I won't return. My go-to vet is now Amwell Vet Surgery. If you are looking for a kind, honest vet that loves animals...that is a good place for you. I brought my aging pooch companion here (due to location/convenience) with a few bits and bobs that needed a look. A cyst on her eye, bump on her leg, teeth looking a little gnarly, and a small dark dot on her neck, under her chin. She's getting old, and the cracks are starting to show but she is otherwise really in very good health and shape. She's 13...so, when making decisions regarding her health I appreciate having all the information, and making decisions that will allow her to lead her snoozy retired life in peace, for the most part. Any sedation or extreme measures should be considered but not necessarily undertaken if they don't greatly increase quality of life. What's the saying? Better to let old dogs lie? She wishes! :)  Within literally seconds of being in the exam room the vet (who scarcely looked at her) diagnosed the brown dot on her neck as melanoma and said it needed to be excised, and that while she was under she should have at least 6 teeth removed, if not more. He couldn't be sure until she was under. He hastily snapped an iphone pic of her teeth. Why? I don't know. As for the bump on her wrist -- would need to be biopsied at a VERY hefty sum to see what it was and the eye cyst would need removal, suture and sedation. Whoa. A bit of a shock...and as they were trying to book me in the very next day, I felt a bit too high pressure for my liking. Also it was going to cost upwards of £2k. What? No. I opted for a second opinion at my regular vet (who is lovely - Amwell Vet Surgery in Islington) a few days later. Melanoma on neck = old blood blister that was easily drained and gone within seconds. ZeroBump on wrist = he advised I leave it based on its location the removal would cause more pain than good given her age. Eye = this one they agreed on, the cyst did need to be removed which required sedation and a suture. Based on that procedure he suggested he do a dental cleaning and at that time he would decide if any teeth needed to be removed. The goal always being quality of life, least amount of discomfort, etc. So, for about £600 Madame Tillie spent the day at Amwell and is doing very well. Had I gone with Clerkenwell it would've cost me nearly 4x that amount, plus a lot of unnecessary suffering for my old girl. The second opinion was worth it and this operation seems a bit too quick to take drastic measures without knowing anything about the animals. Bedside manner also lacking. I won't return. For around £50 I wasted an hour of our lives and paid for the pleasure of being overwhelmed. Additional star for emergency services and weekend hours. If it truly is an emergency, this would definitely be a decent option for your furry friend. Read Less

I would give this place a hundred stars if I could since they saved my little bulldog's life!  My 11 week old pup started acting really ill one Friday night around 8pm - miraculously the Clerkenwell Animal Hospital was open and saw her right away.  Turns out her stomach was twisted and they had to do emergency surgery at midnight on friday night - the anasthaetic alone could have killed the puppy, but Mark (the vet) and his nurses did an amazing job and I was able to take the pup home the next day.  They stayed with her throughout the night and have even returned my phonecalls at 11/12 at night when I had a question. Now every time I go in they remember the dog and play with her - she actually likes going to the vet which is crazy!

Twice now I have had to rush both my dogs into the Hospital in the middle of the night. The first time, the vet got in a taxi and met me there straight away, she was there before I was, ready to meet me and my very poorly dog. Both times I have felt like my dogs are in very safe hands and I really have felt like the service provided is top rate. Both my dogs have been a bit prone to serious stomach problems and I am so glad the animal hospital is so close and that the speed and quality of the service is so good - I would highly recommend!!!Read Less

Probably the most expensive vet clinic in the area by far. Drug dispensing fees are a disgrace and you typically end up paying between 300-800% more for dispensed items than you can get anywhere else. This includes a dispensing fee of 15 per item they dispense. So if your pet was diagnosed with something and needed three medications that cost 5 each, this would cost you 60. Raised this with the vet via email and the response was basically "take your business elsewhere" with the excuse that the clinic is staffed with vet nurses 24 hours a day.Read Less

I can't thank all the staff enough for the treatment they gave to our dog recently when he was admitted for a couple of nights.Every single member of staff we had contact was knowledgable and professional and really cared about our dog. During his stay the staff called us regularly to let us know how he was doing which made us feel reassured and were there 24/7 to answers are calls if we worried. After having previous bad experiences with other vets we won't be taking him anywhere else in future. Highly recommended! Read Less

What can I say about this perfect Vet practice, from the reception staff to the consultant we were treated with such understanding and thoughtfulness. Our dog was diagnosed quicker than any human would be at hospital and the next day we were seen by a consultant. Mark is an amazing human being who honestly cares deeply about the animals and we feel honoured that our dog was seen by him. All the staff on my other visits have been just as amazing. If you go to this practice once you will never go to another Vet ever they are the best and the animals in this area are very lucky. Read Less
