In October last year, we have lost our beloved Kyra, the wonderful cat who shared 18 years of her life with us. In January this year, I have moved to Hackney and in June I will get two Burmese kittens. Our previous vet is now too far away but after all we went through with Kyra in the last months of her life, I know how important is a good vet. And when saying good I don't mean only being knowledgeable (even if this is of course the main thing), but also being caring and humane. After reading the info on the Hackney Vet website, I thought they may be what I was looking for. Well, as long as I didn't get in touch with the receptionist! I wanted to get to know the clinic/people before choosing between one of the clinics in the area, but the receptionist acted like a robot, not as a human being. Her/his email was not signed by her/his name, the answer to my very kind email was cold and short - I was simply asked to register my cats (and got a registration form) even if I was clear that I am getting my cats only in June! When I explained that I would like to get to know the clinic before deciding for one, she/he said I can do so only after registering and that if I am not accepting their protocol, I should simply choose some other clinic. Which I will. I am only asking myself if the vets of this clinic know how their receptionist treats people. If they treat people the way the receptionist does, how do they treat animals? I hope the vets of the Hackney Vet clinic will read this. Read Less

This is my first bad review ever, I never do it but had such a bad experience at this vet that I simply had to do it. My dog is 14 years old, and the whole time we were with the vet he kept saying how old our dog is, over and over again, as if it was a miracle that he was even alive. He said at least three times that we should be prepared because our dog will most likely catch a disease and will die soon and he didn't think we should treat any possible diseases, kind of implying that it's a waste of time. I mean how insensitive is that? Yes our dog is old but he is heathy and we want him to have the best treatment for as long as he lives. The whole experience was very awkward and disappointing. I've very disappointed and don't recommend this place. Read Less

Have only been once to the Hackney Vet once, to get two of my dogs innoculated against kennel cough as they were going into kennels. First of all I was very surprised that one of them walked straight in, rather than having to be dragged in as usual! The receptionist was very welcoming, and both dogs were very relaxed. Again, Popeye, the dog who is normally nervous, followed the vet into the surgery and submitted fairly happily to the spray, and wasn't at all afraid of him. After my cat ate a single holly berry from the floor I was concerned the that they might be poisonous ☠️. I called this vet for some advice and received very little help, nothing I hadn’t already learned from google. They then offered to contact the pet poison hotline for me at a cost of £70 for the call. Another quick google revealed that the hotline costs £20 per call, and that ‘the hackney vet’ would like to cream a nice £50 profit out of my concern. The Hackney Vet is a great local vet that you can take your pet to for regular check ups, vaccinations (if you've only just gotten your pet), buy pet food and any operations that are needed for your pet (such as castration). The team are really friendly and professional, with expertise, they won't let you down. You walk in to the reception area where you can take a seat, purchase pet food and toys and weigh your pet if you want. Inside, there is a small room where the veterinarian can check your pet's health and apply any medication required. You can book an appointment by calling them on their phone number or online. It's one of the nicest vets I've ever seen. I would definitely recommend it to fellow pet owners. Read Less

I took my dog Paddy (Maltese x Shitzu) to this vet with the following symptons - loss of appetite and slight irritation under Paddy's tongue. The dog had just arrived from Australia 5 days ago. The vet attempted to look in the dog's mouth but struggled to get a look under the tongue. The vet then promptly concluded that the dog most likely had cancer in the mouth and stated that there was a swelling with an ulceration. The vet gave him a steriod injection and said that was all he would recommend given Paddy's age. We then took the dog to a vet hospital for a 2nd opinion which performed a proper examination of the mouth under sedation who confirmed that this Vet in Hackney had made an incorrect dianogsis and that not only was there no sign of what this vet had described as cancer of the mouth, but also the vet should not have given him steriods. He always takes the time to explain everything clearly and really cares about the welfare of the his patients. We are so thankful to Geoff and the team at The Hackney Vet Geoff has been looking after our dog Buster for many year with great skill and compassion. Buster recently became ill so we took him to see Geoff at his new surgery, The Hackney Vet. We were very impressed with the premises, its looks great and it felt very spacious. They have great facilities to look after all the animals. Geoff advised that they keep Buster in for a few tests, after carrying out some blood tests and xrays they quickly diagnosed Buster with a serious problem that would require surgery. We felt like we were well informed every step of the way so had all the information to make the right choices about what to do next. Buster had to stay in for a few days after his surgery and we were allowed to visit him anytime we liked. All the fantastic staff took great care of him, while he was there and he seemed very happy during his stay. We felt everyone at The Hackney Vet was doing their absolute best to get Buster back on the road to recovery and that's indeed what happened. Buster is now back with us and running around the park again. We have been for a few check ups since and Buster is still eager to charge through the door each time, I'm sure the lovely treats they give him each time have something to do with this! It is really great though, to see that he has made such a good recovery and hasn't been affected by his stay in hospital at all. We are so happy with how things have worked out and look forward to Geoff and the team at The Hackney Vet looking after Buster for many more years. Read Less

It's one of the nicest vets I've ever seen. I would definitely recommend it to fellow pet owners. Read Less

Thank-you to Jason Stivano and his team at the The Hackney Vet for their great recent care of our dog. He was very kind and patient and took his time to explain everything we needed to know, we didn't feel rushed into making a decision. He was brilliant as explaining how the treatment works and the costs involved which we felt were reasonable. He made us and our dog feel relaxed and we found his overall care thorough and our dog's quality of life much improved. Thank-you for your kindness and time.

Great vet. We have our dog registered there. Also very helpful when I brought in a stray dog I found in Hackney Downes. Scanned the chip and tried to track down the owner for me.

I can't recommend The Hackney Vet enough especially the vet Jason Stivano who has always been kind and considerate when taking care of my 8 year old cat George. We first met him at abbeyVET in Stamford Hill when George had a recurrent bladder problem and are delighted he is still in the area in his own new practice so we can continue to take George to him. He always takes the time to explain everything clearly and really cares about the welfare of the his patients. The nurses are friendly and helpful and the new facilities he has shown me are modern and impressive. This independent veterinary practice is a great addition to Hackney. Read Less

Read Less
