Caution - very expensive and threatening complaints management. Our dog needed an operation which a different oncology specialist centre had already quoted and done all the diagnostic work for, however as they were far away and the procedure straightforward, we asked London Vet Specialist for a quote. This was over £1000 more and when we queried this were told we had to talk to a vet. For this 15 minute phone call with a vet we were charged £364. When we complained we were advised this is cost of the vet consultation and threatened with debt collectors. We had a terrible experience here. The surgeon operated on the wrong side of our retriever’s mouth and only realised it when our dog was in recovery, so took him back into theatre, gave him a second anaesthetic and did the correct side - all without even talking to me. This information came to us in bits and pieces from various communications with the practice over several days. In the first instance, the surgeon barely apologised and played it down as though she had realised during the procedure. We understand mistakes happen, but a lack of openness and a variety of different stories left us unable to trust what we were being told. In addition to this, we were sent an estimate of costs instead of the CT scan results and when we saw the oncologist, the report he wrote included information about another animal with different issues. We paid £1500 in advance and in good faith before the operation. We were, however, asked to pay the balance of a further £1500, which they eventually waived. The complacency and lack of procedures we perceived here were overshadowed by the lack of openness and transparency, which one would consider essential in a professional set-up.
