We took our dog Kai to McConnell's in January as he had a lump on his testicles and we were advised that castration was our only option, I was a little reluctant as Kai was 13 years old but there was no other options. Kai had had a cyst for a number of years on his testacles but just recently it had grown, so we booked him in for castration which went well and Kai was much happier and moving much more freely afterwards, The lump was sent off for a histology examination, we were never given the results of the histology report so presumed that as suggested many years earlier by a vet at McConnells it was just a cyst as thought. Kai became poorly around the 21st May and was displaying all the symptoms of food poisoning,one of our friends had given him a cheap chew stick so we thought it was that, however after a couple of days with no improvement we rang the vets and was told to take Kai straight in. Immediately without much of an examination Mr McConnell was telling us it doesn't look good for Kai and to prepare for the worst-the reason he thought this was due to the results of the histology report that we was NEVER given, which revealed that Kai had had a tumor removed which had now spread. Mr McConnells words were that we SHOULD have been given these results back in January, and that we SHOULD have been checking regularly for lumps under the skin ( which obviously we wasn't as we were unaware ), we left Kai overnight to have more tests and prayed he'd be better by morning. I rang McConnells the next morning that basically we had no choice but to have Kai put to sleep, Mr McConnell said "had we found the lumps sooner then maybe he could have removed them" So I'm partly blaming him for the death of Kai, had we been given the histology results back in January we definitely would have found these lumps much sooner but due to the neglect of the vets we were never informed. I should have took Kai out of McConnells at an earlier date when he'd had ear surgery and a plastic cone fitted to prevent him from busting the stitches in his ear, when I collected kai he had his own faeces inside of the cone, outside of the cone, all over his legs and tummy, all over his lead and on the bandage that had started to unravel from under the cone, but I never stopped him going back as all his history was with McConnells, and that is a guilt that will remain with me forever. I have written to Mr McConnell about these matters but he chose to ignore me.

Sadly had to let our beloved cat Georgie Girl pass over the Rainbow Bridge.

The team at the practice and at Pets 999 could not have been more excellent.
Totally professional, available 24 hours a day, emotionally supportive and always there for us at a time that ripped our hearts out!
We still have our dog Deano who we took in for his annual booster yesterday.
Hugs and cuddles from all the staff; he didn't want to leave!😊
If I'm ill I'd sooner come here than Royal Oldham Hospital!😆

I have been going to Ian McConnell vetenary surgery for 10 years now with my westies for boosters and general check ups. It wasn't until this last few days that I needed to really rely on them when one of my dogs became very poorly, the help advice and care given to him I have to highly praise along with all the staff's compassion. Would highly recommend Ian McConnell Surgery.

We took on the cat as a stray as he picked us and we are a multi disability family with out a lot of money and phoned pdsa to help. But McConnell is capitalist with out a care for the local community and its resident animals. If ya loaded ... that's your place!

I have been bringing my dog here since we got him as a puppy, 3 years ago. I actually travel from Rochdale because of the recommendation of this practice by many people. I find every single member of staff to be really nice and friendly. The vets and nurses have always been very knowledgeable and informative. My dog has had excellent care and I trust the team completely with his health and well being.

I initially took my cat when i found he was over grooming and had lesions on his tail. His flee, worming and tick treatment etc were all up to date, but the vet said it could be many things but without tests which would cost 100+ she wouldn't be able to suggest what it was.
She suggested an injection (25) which would last from 3-8 weeks, for inflammation of the skin, explaining that this would enable the skin to have time to heal etc. I was then also persuaded to buy their certified home flee treatment (another 25) of which I, of course, obliged.
I feel it is worth a mention that until the point of purchasing the above treatment I felt she was rude. At the point of agreed purchase; boy did she perk up.
I went home with what seemed like a slightly more at ease cat, to find two days after he was just as bad as he initially was. I presume that the injection included some sort of sedative which I wouldn't be opposed to at all, apart from the fact she said it would last 3-8 weeks. It didn't even last 3 days.
After treating the tail lesions at home, and taking a closer look i have found that it is actually a, now infected, bite which the vet failed to identify.
After treating my home with flee treatment and re treating my cat he is still just as ill. And so am I, with a nearly 100 pointless veterinary bill just before Christmas.

Terrible Veterinary Practice! I brought my pet in due to multiple rashes on his legs and body. They only gave him a few injections, saying it would probably clear up. His condition worsened, only for them to say we should have brought him in sooner and they have no clue what it is. After paying over 100, I still have no idea what is wrong with my pet and they have been terribly unhelpful. The building is over-sized for its purpose and the whole establishment appears ostentatious. Appalling.

I feel I must respond to the review by Mad Ferret. I have been going to this practice for the last 8 years and have never come across anyone trying to sell me unnecessary treatments as suggested. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and compassionate to both animals and their owners and I have never heard one bad comment about the practice so I think this man went to a different place. Please give this place a go as you will not regret it.

I find every single member of staff to be really nice and friendly. The vets and nurses have always been very knowledgeable and informative. I initially took my cat when i found he was over grooming and had lesions on his tail. His flee, worming and tick treatment etc were all up to date, but the vet said it could be many things but without tests which would cost 100+ she wouldn't be able to suggest what it was.
She suggested an injection (25) which would last from 3-8 weeks, for inflammation of the skin, explaining that this would enable the skin to have time to heal etc. I was then also persuaded to buy their certified home flee treatment (another 25) of which I, of course, obliged.
I feel it is worth a mention that until the point of purchasing the above treatment I felt she was rude. At the point of agreed purchase; boy did she perk up.
I went home with what seemed like a slightly more at ease cat, to find two days after he was just as bad as he initially was. I presume that the injection included some sort of sedative which I wouldn't be opposed to at all, apart from the fact she said it would last 3-8 weeks. It didn't even last 3 days.
After treating the tail lesions at home, and taking a closer look i have found that it is actually a, now infected, bite which the vet failed to identify.
After treating my home with flee treatment and re treating my cat he is still just as ill. And so am I, with a nearly 100 pointless veterinary bill just before Christmas.

Terrible Veterinary Practice! I brought my pet in due to multiple rashes on his legs and body. They only gave him a few injections, saying it would probably clear up. His condition worsened, only for them to say we should have brought him in sooner and they have no clue what it is. After paying over 100, I still have no idea what is wrong with my pet and they have been terribly unhelpful. The building is over-sized for its purpose and the whole establishment appears ostentatious. Appalling.

I feel I must respond to the review by Mad Ferret. I have been going to this practice for the last 8 years and have never come across anyone trying to sell me unnecessary treatments as suggested. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and compassionate to both animals and their owners and I have never heard one bad comment about the practice so I think this man went to a different place. Please give this place a go as you will not regret it.
