Disgusting. Rated 1 star as zero was not an option. Let me first say that I had used this practice for a few years and believed them to be good - that was before I really needed them. I had an emergency whist I was away in America which my son had to deal with together with myself by phone. My son took my chihuahua to the surgery gravely ill at 5pm on a Friday, where they treated him for 2 hours. At 6.45 I received a call from my son - they were closing at 7 and have no in-house care overnight. They would have to transfer him to their out of hours practice but that would cost a minimum of £700 and they were insisting on payment upfront before he was transferred. Long story short, I had to phone Riverside Vets who I used to deal with some years ago, and beg them to register Harry, so that I would be able to use their out of hours without paying out £700 instantly and Harry could get the care he needed. The receptionist at Riverside said that it wasn't something that she could normally do, but she could tell I was desperate, in floods of tears, and kindly agreed, telling me to call back just after 7 when their out of hours service began and they would have him transferred from Unicorn. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to Riverside who had Harry for 6 days and tried everything they could, updating me in the USA sometimes twice daily. Sadly, we lost him on the day we came home. The bill from Riverside came to £2700, including his cremation, a lot, of course, but expected. Riverside were very happy to talk about payment options, but I chose to pay it completely and get it out of the way. 2 weeks ago, having had no prior contact whatsoever, I received a letter, text message and email all in the same day from Unicorn advising that I had an outstanding balance. I called them straight away to find out how much £381. I said I thought that was excessive as they'd only had Harry for 2 hours, but that I realised I would have to pay it but they would have to give me time as I'd only recently paid out the £2700. Today, less than 2 weeks later, I got a call from a Debt Collection agency advising that they have transferred my balance to them and that with admin costs I now owe over £460. I called Unicorn. Unsurprisingly, their practice manager was unavailable to speak to me. I'll let you make you own minds up whether you think this is a practice with the animals best interests at heart.
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR BELOW REPLY
You received no reply to the letters, phone calls and emails you sent me??? You did not even send me an invoice! I will reiterate, I received no contact from you WHATSOEVER before your text, email and letter all of which were sent to me on the same day - the 5th of October. I called you immediately on receiving them and I KNOW you have a record of my call. You passed this to a Debt Colletor less than 2 weeks later. Seriously, please do not try to justify this. Read Less
