The cardiology team at SCVS are amazing. So kind and caring, treating my dog as if she were one of their own - a great help at such a hard time. We were referred a year ago as my dog had developed a heart murmur and had fainted. My appointment came through quickly and when we got there they were all great. Sadly she was diagnosed with arrhythmia and mitral valve disease which was devastating and she needed to be operated on the following day to have a pacemaker fitted. Yes, it is expensive, but that should make you realise how lucky we are with the NHS. To be treated by such highly trained and passionate individuals is worth it. The treatment that she has received there has been outstanding and a year on my girl is still with me and loving life. Words cannot express how grateful I am to them for the kindness and loving care they have given. Every time I go I feel like they have all the time I need to answer questions and go through things with me. My dog brings so much joy to so many lives and whatever time she has left we are just making the most of her - thank you so much to everyone at SVCS for giving me and all those who adore her that extra time. Hi A Cooper, I can only apologise again for the inconvenience. I understand your frustration, but unfortunately we only have one dermatologist here, and as he is now not gong to be here today, we are unable to see your dog. The referral team have offered you an appointment on Monday, which if you would like to take we would be happy to book you in. If you would like to discuss this further, please call our practice manager, Natalie Pattern, on 01425 485615.

Can a representative please send through a copy of your data protection policy for review. This has added trauma while my dogs life hangs in the balance. All staff came across as highly professional and I was very happy with the service until after the surgery. I was fairly disgusted that the price you pay doesn’t include any aftercare after the first 24hrs - so any check ups thereafter are charged as consultations (as if you could chose not to return for follow ups after major surgery) I was a little disappointed by the vague information given to me at discharge and the confusion with my final bill which was fairly stressful. Sorry scvs, I wanted to leave a good review but I haven’t come away feeling like I’ve had the exceptional service I’ve paid for (or will pay for when we decide how much I owe) Read Less

Hi Vixy, Thank you for leaving us a review. It is important to us to receive feedback to enable us to continue to improve our service. I am sorry that you feel the aftercare you received was not up to the high standard of the care you and Blue received before and during Blue’s treatment. I have spoken to our client account administrator, who has advised me she has spoken to you and has hopefully resolved your issues regarding the bill. Unfortunately regarding the follow-up consultations, these are only included in our fixed price procedures. We have increased our number of fixed price procedures substantially, but unfortunately some procedures are so varying that is very difficult to provide one set fee and remain fair to all clients. If you would like to talk any of this through further, please call Sue Robinson our Practice Manager on 01425 485615 or email [email protected]

Absolutely outstanding service. Our collie had a spinal injury whilst chasing a ball and SCVS were able to see us same day, for an MRI if required. With excellent demonstration of skill and expertise our neurologist discussed the possible diagnosis with us and instead of straight to MRI we agreed to let them keep her a few nights to assess her progress. We were able to contact any time of day/night for an update and received a daily update anyway by phone call. Some vets may have gone the MRI but in our case it wasn’t necessary and she is making a great recovery. Would highly recommend if you’re local or need referral for specialist services. Phill our admitting surgeon was super, he made me feel at ease and confident in his ability to perform the surgery on our dog. He phoned me every day and informed about how Stan was doing. Discharge was completed by Pippa and she gave me a good comprehensive explanation of the procedure and the after care needed for him. I needed to phone for some advice about Stan and was put immediately through to the duty vet who liaised with my local vet for some different analgesia. On Stan's follow up/discharge appointment we were discharged by Alex who gave very clear guidance on his rehabilitation which was great as I just wanted someone to tell me what to do. Stan had a TPLO and luxating patella, he was a fit pup who would run 5k and go hiking with us. He thought his mountain climbing days were over, thank you so much for your skills and dedication. Not just the Vets but the nurses, the support workers, receptionist, radiographers and anyone else who works at southern counties. Thank you again from (Iron)Stan Lansley the Pug. Read Less

Francesca saved our little dollys life! She is a patterdale terrier and is only 3 years old! We took dolly to our local vets as her back legs had stopped working and we didn't know what was wrong, our vets said she had a slipped disc and we either had to take her to southern counties vets or have her put down. We decided over night what we was going to do as we didnt have her insured and she needed a MRI and surgery! We decided that night to have the scan and surgery done so SCV gave us an emergency appointment at 8am the next morning which was amazing! We took dolly to see Francesca so she could tell us what was really happening and she confirmed it was a slipped disc and they took her for a MRI immediately, then she called us straight away to say that she has been taken into surgery, she personally kept us updated every day and she even went in to see dolly on her days off!! Now 4 weeks after surgery, her scar is healing really well, all her hair is growing back and she is running around like a lunatic (we try to stop her) . I honestly cannot thank Francesca and her team at SCV you are all truly amazing at what you do and we wouldn't have our little girl back with us today if it wasn't for you, couldn't recommend them enough! We were referred to Southern Counties when our saluki Rafi developed lameness in one of his front legs. Orthopaedic surgeon Phil Witte quickly discovered he had a very unusual injury to his wrist which needed very intricate surgery involving a single tiny screw. To cut a long story short the surgery was 100% successful and we are eternally grateful to the whole team at SCVS, from the lovely friendly receptionists, through to the physio team and all of the surgical team. We now have a nearly fully recovered Rafi (just a few careful weeks to go) and all should be well. Thank you so much everybody at SCVS, I'm sure Rafi will miss you!! Toby, our Bichon Frise was referred to SCVS to have a CT scan as our own vet's practise didn't have a scanner. The results of previous tissue samples and needle biopsys were depressing showing Toby had a bone cancer of his lower jaw. Surgical intervention I felt would be too much for our dear little dog who is almost 10 years old. We were seen by Mr Tony Ryan who was extremely kind and went to great lengths to explain to my husband and I the complexities of the Path. Lab results; which to complicate matters contained 2 conflicting statements which put in doubt the type of cancer Toby had. This made me waver over our earlier decision to give palliative care only - cost wasn't the issue but quality of my dog's life was. I was in a quandary and quite distressed, but Mr Ryan advised me to wait until after Toby had his scan and depending on his results we'd be better able to make a more informed decision. So Toby was admitted to have his scan later that morning. The two ladies on reception were so kind, apart from making us coffee, they checked all my insurance forms were correct. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them, though they were obviously having a busy day with a lot of emergencies. Late in the afternoon Mr Ryan telephoned and confirmed it was the more aggressive type of cancer, which he would discuss with us the next day when we collected Toby. In the evening when I phoned to check how Toby was, again I was dealt with very kindly by the nurse on duty who went along to see him and I felt much better knowing he was alert and sitting up looking around. The next day we were seen by Mr Ryan who showed us the scans and the extent of the tumour. Although the enormity of it was upsetting, it helped us to realise our earlier decision not to intervene surgically was the right one to make. We wish to thank Tony Ryan and the staff at SCVS for their compassion and care. Although we don't know how much time we have left with Toby, we will make the most of it. Read Less

Words cannot express how grateful I am to Florence Juvet and her team at this wonderful veterinary hospital. My little Beagle was not expected to survive when she was transferred to Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists at midnight on New Years Eve. But Florence and two others worked tirelessly to stabilise and save her for many hours, and the team was expanded in ICU on subsequent days. The prognosis was bleak for several days but Florence kept in touch on many occasions and had belief that if my Beagle made it through the first 4 days then there was a much stronger possibility of her survival. The exceptional, professional but at the same time - caring attitude of this team was priceless, and this extended until today when following a few days at home, we returned for a follow-up visit and as long as the blood tests and other tests results are positive which were carried out today, then Slipper the Beagle was discharged from their care. I can thoroughly recommend this hospital and all the staff, as they have all travelled the extra miles needed when as an owner you are in the unfortunate position of needing their expertise and care to help your pets. Slipper is now home, and doing what Beagles do best mischief! Many thousands of thanks from me, Slipper and her other four Beagle companions. Read Less

We have a cat (formally named Mr Bubbles) who is currently in advanced heart failure. He has, shall we say, some slight temper issues and can be very difficult to handle. When we were referred to SCVS, I was in an emotional state, watching him fight for breath, but the reception ladies put me at ease immediately and fetched me a cup of tea while I tried not to bawl my eyes out. Since that first visit we've had numerous further encounters with them and at every single turn the service has been flawless. The specialist care on offer isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny. From the sound-proofed cat kennels to the separate waiting area for cats and the friendly, comforting service, we couldn't be more grateful to them for everything they have done and are doing for us and the welfare of our dying cat.

I don't know how we'd have managed this far without them.Read Less
