Quite disappointed in the customer service. After realising that I had shamefully forgotten several times to collect the dog’s flea treatment I finally found the time to get to the vets. I realised I had handed over several hundred pounds via direct debit and not received anywhere near what I’d paid for. While I accept that it is my responsibility to remember, the reason I pay monthly is so I don’t need to worry about it. Anyway, I asked when I signed up if they sent reminders and they said no. I thought it rather odd but put faith in myself that I’d remember. After a year or so I realised it would be better to simply go in when I remembered, and pay each time. That way if I forget I have the option to purchase his treatment elsewhere else when convenient. So I popped in to vets for pets one last time with the dog. I was greated my a girl who was pointing at the door to indicate that they were closed. I found this terribly rude because the dog was with me and for all she knew there may have been a problem. What if the dog needed help. She didn’t even ask. I would never turn away a customer at the door just because I wanted to go home. After being asked to leave I mentioned the direct debit and why they don’t send reminders. The reply was that you have to opt in because of data protection. Firstly, I asked for it and they said no. Secondly GDPR only came in 2 days ago. Thirdly, I only left this review because it makes me angry when people think I’m stupid so pull any old excuse off the top of their head to make me go away. “I’m sorry, what is your name, I’ll pass this on to my manager” would have been much less rude and and more professional. Sadly the first time I had occasion to visit the Portsmouth surgery it was to have my 15 year old Westie boy put to sleep as he was beginning to suffer. A traumatic time when it happens and that is just making the call to arrange. The receptionist was immediately aware of my distress and despite a tearful call was able to interpret my details and guide me through to having an immediate same day appointment after the morning surgery. Once there I was introduced to Justyn the vet who explained very sympathetically what would take place. It was peaceful and dignified and the surgery table was laid out with a sheepskin throw rather than the hard clinical surface you normally find, this made me feel better that my boy was comfortable for his good bye time. Afterwards I was invited to stay as long as I needed to say my farewells which for me was a major help in coming to terms with my loss. V4P organised the single cremation, sent me a sympathy card and called when it was time to collect the ashes which again was done in a very understanding manner. The surgery is modern and clean and my only regret is not having found them earlier for my boy.
