We have been going to Barton Lodge for about 10 years. In the past week, our cat has developed a UTI with all the classic symptoms (including blood in urine). There was no immediate suggestion for testing urine for bacteria for low dose antibiotic treatment if needed. Sent home with Metacam (safety questioned internationally) and Feliway Cystease Caps for the UTI. Decided if we wouldn’t use Metacam ourselves due to concerns - we certainly wouldn’t be giving it to our cat. Tried to return the Metacam (seal unbroken) - receptionist (Liz Duro) said, “Someone will come to DEAL with you, please sit there.” - While talking to Nicci Hawks in a treatment room we were talked to with a condescending tone. We were told that all drugs are controversial (METACAM Oral Suspension is not approved for use in cats. - https://www.metacam.com/faqs.php / other professional and consumer sources on the internet) and that because her cat was fine ours too would be (in a tone that hinted that we were uneducated fools), when we were told that no antibiotics are issued for UTI without urinalysis - we questioned why none had been requested - we were told, “Many of our clients find it difficult to collect a urine sample.” Please read/watch video: https://www.pdsa.org.uk/taking-care-of-your-pet/pet-health-hub/conditions/bladder-infection-uti-in-cats and imagine our internalised reaction to her statement. We were then told by Nicci that if we bring in a sample the next day that it could be a SEVERAL HOUR wait for the test results. We have discovered that urine test strips are used to check 10 key parameters: glucose, bilirubin, ketones, specific gravity, blood, pH, protein, urobilinogen, nitrite and leukocytes (Nitrite: Detection of symptoms of a bacterial urinary tract infection) - give fast and easy test results - Within 60 - 120 seconds. Also, we were then informed that we could not return the Metacam (unbroken seal) and would have to eat the £23.67 cost. As a side note: Have since discovered that all the products are significantly marked up to what’s available on the internet - (VioVet etc.) and there seems to be a priority for the vets to push services and products. In our opinion, quite disappointingly, Barton Lodge has changed over the last couple of years and has started to feel more about their profits and less about the animals and their owners. Read Less

Yesterday I had the horrific experience of hitting a cat while driving As I arrived at Barton Lodge, the staff at the desk immediately sprung into action. One took the injured cat from me and disappeared through to the back of the surgery while the other was on the internal phone informing the vet of an emergency arriving. It was heartwarming to see how quickly the team not only took care of the injured animal, but also tracked down the owner via the cat's chip details. As all this was going on, they even offered me a cup of tea as I was quite shaken! (I didn't accept the tea, they were far too busy to be fussing over me). When calling Barton Lodge later in the day I was given the very sad news that the cat had passed away. I have animals at home myself and would hope that if they were ever in trouble, they would be treated so swiftly and with such care. My deepest sympathy goes to the owner of the cat. Read Less

We have travelled from London to use this vet surgery for our Scottie dog Hector because Pedro Bartholomie is based here now. He has been Hector’s vet for almost 5 years now and we have grown to trust him with our precious pet despite Hector trying to bite him when he carries out basic procedures on him. Like us, Hector now trusts him so we are happy to travel the extra distance since he changed the location of his practice. Pedro Bartholomie is an excellent vet and I can happily recommend him to any pet owner. Read Less

Helpful friendly staff, was seen quite quickly. Thinking back now, in hindsight, and how quickly they could see me kinda reminds me of the situation where you want to eat in a restaurant not knowing the local area, do you go for the empty one or the full one? Generally, you think the full restaurant is full for a reason! So, pet was seen and examined 'briefly'! by a vet who immediately wanted to perform x-rays and was leaning towards meningitis! Just for info, pet is only 3.5 yrs old. Vet who examined was young so not much real-world experience under his belt. Filled out a patient/permission form there and then and asked me to sign with a price tag of 330! Talk about "Hard Sell"! I thought this was a vets, not double glazing! I wasn't happy with the way I had been treated. I got the impression all they could see was and not what was in my pets best interests but rather their own! Phoned another practice for a second opinion and they disagreed with the diagnosis. Took pet to the other vets and they gave the dog a thorough! examination (thorough as in say 15-20 minutes, bending the dog this way and that, spine pressure etc whereas here at Barton Lodge it was a quick press here, bend there took around 5 minutes!) and came to a different conclusion. The other vets tested her Urine and sent us away with medication and to return if no improvement for blood test and possibly ultrasound. I wouldn't go here again and would NOT recommend them either. Having spoke to people about the practice, EVERYONE I have spoken to, their words to similar effect, "Yeah.....they are a ripoff". Beware!

Beware! Read Less

Barton Lodge have been wonderful! They invited us in at any time to ask questions and get advice on our new puppy and were incredibly generous with their time. We also attended their puppy parties which have been great for our puppy to learn key skills and for us to listen to tips and ask any questions - you can read as many books as you like about getting a puppy but there is nothing like speaking with experts in person.
