Part1
To start with, my 9 year old dog had started drooling, her breath was horrendous and there was blood on her bowls.
After being sent away twice with anti biotics for £150 each time, we decided it was best to go for a 'stage 1 dental' (£380). In this procedure, we were told she had an aggressive tumour that had spread throughout her mouth and she would be in alot of pain. (These tumours typically kill within 65 days from the time symptoms appear).
They decided to take biopsys and charge us for this and the total bill then went up to approx £700. We were told whilst picking her up, it would be best to put her to sleep. Why they couldn't have said this, when they rang to inform us she was in surgery and had tumours, I don't know because as hard as it is, we would have liked the choice to not take the biopsy and put her to sleep under sedation, to save the poor thing anymore pain.
(Just to add the day we took her home after surgery, she was in a terrible way, me and my partner were very emorional and we asked this particular receptionist if we could ring and pay later, as the dog is distressed. The woman refused and we had to stand there and wait for her add up the costs to then bill us. As I'm stood there crying holding my dog of 9 years, knowing she was going to die in the next few days. Yet in previous visits this was always fine.)
To have a vet come and put our 9kg cavachon to sleep, it cost nearly £1000. Totalling nearly £2000. We were then given back £190, as they had over charged us for sedating her prior to being put to sleep. (This was only picked up by the accounts lady, Who was sorting our bill at the time).
Part2
After this experience, myself and my partner came across a dog in need that was in a horrible home and needed rescuing.
We took our rescue to the vets and was told she needed a stage one.
They removed 11 teeth, did xrays, bloods, etc all for £380.. reasonable in all fairness. We were then told she would need a stage 2 for £635, just to remove 4 teeth.
I rang around and found that several other practices would have done both the stage 1 and 2 for less than the price Moy vets were going to charge for a stage 2.
Moy vets also put us on a time limit, and said she will need another stage 1 before her stage 2 is done, if we don't act quickly.
Again, dentistry as a rule is not something insurers pay out for.
My only nice words for this chain is that there are several wonderful receptionists at this practice that go above and beyond. I will always appreciate them for what they did for my family. Read Less
