Having been a customer of Fairfield vets since the 1970’s it is with some dismay that I find myself writing such a review. We took our dog in because he had developed a small red lump on his abdomen. We found it a few weeks ago whilst on holiday and I treated it myself, the lump shrunk and started to dry, however it came back again last week, again whilst on holiday, I think I stopped the treatment too early, I treated it again and the lump again started to shrink and dry up but we decided to get the vet to look at it. The girl who saw us gave us the impression that she didn’t know what she was doing, she flitted from one "I think it maybe" to another then another, confidence in her dissolved rapidly. She asked if there had been any puss and I told her twice that there was none, she took him into another room which we were not allowed into. When she brought him back she said she had squeezed the lump and no puss was visible, when I looked the lump had swollen again. It was at this point that we got what I can only describe as the sales pitch, she wanted to operate and remove the lump and explore what she thought may be an internal lump, then send it for examination. There was no pre med blood test or biopsy, it was a full on operation to remove what may or may not be something that could or could not be benign or malignant, she had no idea. This would cost us, or our insurance over £1200. She was keen to get our dog booked in despite admitting that he could have been bitten,he may have something in it. He is not in any discomfort, he is eating well has not lost any weight, enjoys his walks and is regular in his movements. The lump is not causing him any pain. I’m afraid that this was quite blatantly about the money and not about my dogs welfare. As the girl hadn’t got a clue she should have taken advice from a senior vet but didn’t. She couldn’t even answer my wife’s question about his welfare whilst being operated on. She finally, very reluctantly gave us some cream and said she would see him again in two weeks, stating that she didn’t think it would do any good, but still prescribing it at more expense. I am treating him again as before and the growth is shrinking. I think it is highly likely that we will be visiting another independent vets for a second opinio Read Less
