Almost two weeks ago today we were desperately looking for some help for our 3 year old chinchilla, Oscar, who was in a very sorry state. Our Sheffield vet had no idea and we were convinced we were going to lose him. Naturally, we were heartbroken. Having struggled to find an exotic vet with any specialist knowledge of chinchillas locally we came across Chine House whilst looking online and rang them at once. Right from the word go they were professional and friendly and agreed to see him first thing. We drove the 60+ mile journey from our native Sheffield with Oscar in the pet carrier and said our tearful goodbyes. Two weeks later and we are currently en route home with a chinchilla who looks better than he ever did - even as a baby. I can't thank the team enough for all they have done. Vets Craig and Simon and the numerous fantastic veterinary nurses have truly worked a miracle. I can't comment on value for money as I have no prior experience but what I can say is that the level of care taken (the team work around the clock) and the incredible communication (daily phone calls - often twice daily) with progress reports were such a reassurance for us worrying back home. I would recommend Chine House to the ends of the earth and for the rest of my life. Thank you eternally, for everything, every last one of you. Read Less

I could not ask for a better vet practice. My rabbit was in hospital for days with GI Stasis, shortly after having had a bilateral bulla osteotomy and having been discharged by Ashby Road vets against the advice of the referral vet. She continued to lose weight, struggled to grip food and would only eat pellets out of a bowl, leaving crumbs. She would not eat her caecotrophs. A local vet told me not to worry and it was assumed that the GI Stasis resulted from the pain from her arthritic jaw not having been sufficiently controlled. I 'phoned Chine House, as their exotic vet had been recommended to me. I spoke to a lovely receptionist who arranged an appointment for later that day. The vet listened to me, looked at my rabbit and thought that she was struggling to eat due to bilateral facial paralysis as a result of nerve damage. He provided advice and reviewed her meds. He neutered her new boyfriend, which went very smoothly- Metacam to go home with (without having had to ask for it), no sutures that could be chewed out and no cruel buster collar. The nursing staff seemed genuinely caring- they provided him with a litter tray and the food and treats that I left. The receptionists and admin staff have always been polite and efficient. The vet has 'phoned me and meds get posted out, as I do not live near. Staff have been accepting of my pets being vegan and to take that into consideration when prescribing, when possible. It is a huge relief to have found Chine House- I used to dread my rabbits getting sick, as I have come across so many staff who have been rude to me because my rabbit does not happen to be a dog and useless vets who appear to suffer from 'just a rabbit' syndrome. Dreadful experience with my seriously ill African Grey parrot. The critically ill parrot needed intensive medical care overnight and I was told that he would be monitored at 30 minute intervals. I visited the parrot at 11pm to find that he would NOT be monitored overnight as the staff were going to bed. The parrot had been placed in a glass tank with a light shining in his face. The little bird kept jerking and falling onto his back and could not them move. I had to keep righting him. In spite of a 'pillow' having been made for him, this continued. The room temperature was also cold. As I feared that the parrot would die in these conditions I took him home for the night where he would be kept warm, dark and turned upright as needed. I returned first thing in the morning for the little bird to have more fluids administered and pain killers as needed. I was met by Craig, who in a furious rant and outburst told me that he would refuse to treat the bird if he left his surgery again. I explained that the bird would have been upside down and all alone in their care and he stated that he had seen many birds spend many hours lying upside down on their backs and they had not died. I was horrified. I was also told that if I wanted someone to actually look at the bird between the hours of 11pm to 6am this would be an EXTRA 300 per night. This money would have to be paid immediately, as they have no account system. The vet had shouted at me for over 5 minutes, not allowing me to speak and vented his anger that someone had dared to care for their bird more that they were. Disgusting. To add to this, I took my 10 year old macaw to see this man many years ago, and Carig noticed his slightly wonky beak. Craig recommended that it be amputated, and that the bird be fitted with a splint! Incredible! (this bird has lived happily with his wonky beak for the past decade). I do not care how many qualifications a person holds, or how 'esteemed' they feel they are..this does not equate to kindness, care and compassion. My little bird has since sadly passed away, and thankfully in my arms and very peacefully. Subsequent investigations have revealed that it was the condition that I had suspected, although this was discounted by Craig Hunt as "you not know what happened to him" (as I wasn't in the room when my little bird fell ill). Incredibly horrible experience...and to be shouted at as my little bird was dying beside me is an experience that I shall not forget. Thankfully there is now a new veterinary practice which deals with exotics in the area, and this is Animates in Bourne. If you wish to avoid the experience that I had, I would recommend this other practice (the avian vet was kind, gentle, compassionate and lovely). Read Less

It is a huge relief to have found Chine House- I used to dread my rabbits getting sick, as I have come across so many staff who have been rude to me because my rabbit does not happen to be a dog and useless vets who appear to suffer from 'just a rabbit' syndrome. who reassured me that Nina was fine and explain what Medication I should give her and when.As I left the vet came over and explained what she had done and showed me the glass she had removed from her paw.
Lovely personal touch, I would highly recommend this Veterinary Practice to all. Read Less

Arrived late on Friday with a very sick horse. Staff met us at the gate. They quickly and calmly unloaded Jaygo and took us into the treatment stalls. It was really serious and the team worked relentlessly doing everything they could for him. They worked so hard and were so so kind to us and Jaygo in very difficult circumstances.
By human nature, everyone will only read the 1* reviews and I urge you to ignore them.
The team who helped us where compassionate and genuine and clearly work hard keeping the facilities clean, and the patients at the heart of what they do.
I can't reccomend Chine House enough, or thank them enough for everything they did.
keep up the excellent work. Read Less

Chine was suggested to us by our local reptile shop because they specialise in tortoise even though they are a good 40 minutes away from us. Although a very expensive visit, Craig couldn't have done more for us and kept us fully informed by phone as to how 'Pebbles' was progressing and what treatment she needed going forward. I feel as if she is in such knowledgeable hands and getting better by the day...thanks again! Read Less

Was referred to Craig Hunt, after an accident left my 9 years old rabbit Gus, with messed up incisors and a fractured jaw. Having some vets say there was nothing that could be done, it was such a relief for Craig to say bring him in. We're going through a process that could take over 6 weeks, but so far I have been very impressed. Craig was calming, thorough and explained things very well. I met one of the nursing team over two days and it was obvious how much care she took over her patients. I would definitely recommend Chine House for rabbits and referrals.Read Less

We have used Chine House for a number of years, we normally prefer Con but have seen many of the other Vets when necessary and can find no fault with any of them, occaaionally they have to makw tough decisions or recommendations that you are not going to like but primarily you are there for the care of your pet and that is all they are concerned with (as it should be) thats what you pay them for at the end of the day!! I know they are a little but more expensive than some but you do get what you pay for at Chine House. On another note, my latest visit to them was for our dog Eva to donate blood for the pet blood bank which is a very worthy cause please look them up or request more information from Chine House. I would say they are a little more expensive that some other local vets, but then I understand why, they are all highly qualified, specialise in different animal, and they have all the latest equipment on site. Read Less

I have three border collies and drive half an hour to take them to this vet, they are the best in the Midlands. After being let down by another vet in the mistreatment of my old collie a number of years ago (which shortened his life considerably), I initially went to Chine House for a second opinion and within a minute of seeing the vet (Con) he diagnosed a different problem and treated him properly. Con has also performed major leg surgery on my 11 year old BC recently. Excellent vets, Con, Craig, Rosie, the nurses all put you at ease and the receptionists are lovely too.
