I have been taking my cat here for over a year now. I love this place and wouldn't recommend any other vet as highly! Obviously my cat isn't going to agree with this review but oh well. The environment is of an older style which is nice because it saves the boredom of being in an ultra modern plan vets. The staff are always friendly and more so the more they get too know you. They also offer a healthy pet plan which sorts out all your animals fleas and worms for a monthly fee as well as a wide range of other perks. I am a member of this and for me it is brilliant. Took my dog for a castration and remove growth in the morning was informed they would ring when I could collect him. No phone call came my dog was their 150mins longer than he had to be. Very very poor service. Will not take him their again. This is not the first time their service has been poor. Read Less

It might be an idea to have a sign at reception asking people to stand back and wait until it is their turn. As I was trying to give my details which included my name, dogs name and my address, people were stood so close to me they not only heard everything, but also had full view of the screen with all my other details on. It's totally unacceptable and people's right to privacy should be respected. I will have no hesitation in moving my business to a practice where my privacy is treated with respect should this continue Read Less

Our dog, scamp became a little poorly and because we had lost another dog very suddenly we were not prepared to take any chances. We took him along and he was blood tested and pancreatitus was diagnosed. After a course of treatment he didn't seem much better so we returned him for further investigation. He was put on a drip and given antibiotics and received nursing for four days. When we got him back he was very nearly back to normal so we took him home. The receptionists and vets were first class and very attentive. Our vet, Felicity, was quite wonderful from start to finish and was very much aware of how much the little chap means to us. Our experience with Dowdings has always been first class having now had three dogs treated by them and I would recommend them to anyone. Read Less

I would have given a five star and I will for the vets they were fantastic when I had to have my furbaby put to sleep But I went to pick her up today and the person on reception passed her to me and saw I was upset and said you should be happy you have her back!!!!! Couldn't recommend enough. Unfortunately my beautiful Sammy (black lab) was diagnosed with renal failure at the age of 18 months old and we were told by renal professionals he would live 2 weeks maximum... This was 7 years ago. Thanks to the passion and care of Pamela Lumb at Dowdings Bawtry, Sammy had several more happy years with us. When he became 'poorly' beyond help last June, Dowdings offered the most amazing, reassuring, and in my opinion over and above the call of duty service. They gave my boy everything they could to make his last few days as comfortable and happy as they could and to ensure there was nothing more they could do. With no appetite, whilst on a drip in their hospital over the weekend, the duty nurse called me morning noon and night with updates, she even stopped at Tesco en route into work on a Sunday morning to buy a cooked chicken as I told them it was his favourite and possibly all he would eat. Faced with one of the hardest decisions of my life, and then saying goodbye to him, was made all that bit easier knowing the care and love he was getting. I can't thank you all enough, or recommend you highly enough. Sorry to ramble but this is the type of love, care and service you get here... And this type of vet is few and far between... Terrible place. Took my dog in for a blood test and he came home brain damaged. His chest was badly bruised and his collar was on the very tightest hole which I didn't notice till we returned home . He only went for a blood test to see why he was gaining weight. My dog had to be put to sleep because of the brain damage which he never had when he went in that place, he was a healthy dog. I have since found out from my current vet that my dog more than likely suffered a restricted artery in the neck due to them tightening his collar to take the blood sample from his neck then not loosening the collar again. The blood flow to his brain was compromised during the 20 minute journey home. The staff there bamboozled me for 5 months as I tried to care for my little dog with endless drugs , They ruined my dogs life and mine. Read Less

When we moved to the Gainsborough area and had to change vets, we researched all the local vets, and tried several of them out with appointments. As dog and cat exhibitors and breeders (whose animals are ALL first and foremost much loved family members) with a LOT of animals, we need vets we feel we can really trust. We had some decent experiences with local vets, some really REALLY bad experiences, and some extremely expensive ones. Then we went to Dowdings Vets and have never looked back since. We have now been with them for several years. Even if we ended up moving away we would still stay with this surgery. Dowdings Vets have it all. They have several vets, every single one of which is excellent. Their nurses, receptionists, practice manager etc are all, just like the vets, very friendly and welcoming. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them. Everyone listens to you and makes you feel welcome. You never feel rushed, and all concerns about your pets are taken seriously and discussed in detail. Animals are made to feel at home, even those that may be nervous are treated confidently and again the staff do all they can to help make pets' and owners' experiences as good as only possible. Emergencies are always dealt with instantly (and if out of normal hours, they have cover). Dowdings have saved the lives of several of our animals, they have been with us during those incredibly difficult times when we have had to say a goodbye, and they have helped welcome new lives into the world. They have always gone above and beyond mere duty. All of this at extremely competitive prices. I would highly recommend them to any pet owner. Five stars isn't really enough, I would give 10. I have used this practice for 20 years and have always found the treatment excellent at every stage in our dogs lives from puppy to veteran. The veterinary team are caring and I trust their diagnostic skills. The admin staff are really helpful arranging appointments at a moments notice if necessary. I contacted the vets as I am seriously worried about the health of my dog, I was then put with a part time vet who only works 2 days a week. She suggested some tests which now I have done some research my dog doesn't have any symptoms. Tests would cost about 200 pounds. I am mainly concerned about my dogs heart and was told about some tests I could do. So i rung the vets up and asked for a break down of the heart tests, to which they said someone would call me. When they called me they obviously hadn't read my dogs file as she asked what tests I want doing? Also saying that the vet I saw isn't in until Thursday. I get told not to exercise her as it could be fatal and then told my vet isn't back till Thursday. Am i meant to wait? My dog could have something seriously wrong and I get this service? Very poor, i can only compare this place to a supermarket and your animals are at the checkout, get you through the door as soon as poss. I am not complaining about the Vet herself, as I am sure she is following protocol, but the way I have been treated its as if its a numbers game. No personal touch and no care for the animals. I bet they have targets as well. I was in and out in 10min at the most. I got a second opinion at another vets nearby, more of a journey for me. They spent 40mins with the dog going through what could be wrong. Much better service. I felt they cared about my dog, wanted to help, Concerned. I feel relaxed now as my dog is in good hands.
