I recently registered with Dundas Vets I was looking for an independent family Vets , and I would highly recommend them .I entrusted them with my precious elderly border collie 13 years 6 months , who required dental work, as this requires a general anesthetic I was extremely anxious and worried due to his age . But I was reassured by the lovely vet Mo who done his pre op check ,and am forever grateful to Emma the vet who performed the procedure Ben had 5 extractions scale and polish ,from which he has made a remarkable quick recovery and I found the Practice very professional the nurses and vets are great . So if you are looking for a great vet Practice in Edinburgh from my personal experience I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them .Wonderful people who work there will look after your precious pets and prices are very fair for the great care they provide . I had my cat in this vet on the 12/5/2020 Oliver was kept in over night because he was slightly dehydrated we thought thats ok however while Oliver was in there care the vet failed to give anymore information other than Oliver was slightly dehydrated so yesterday I took Oliver to his new family run vet's yesterday the 29/9/2020 for his claws to be clipped and the information we got yesterday from the new vet was completely invaluable Oliver now needs to go back into the vet to have a scale and polish on his teeth and I was also told they may need to take some teeth out and they would also like to take bloods to find out exactly why Oliver is continuing to be slightly dehydrated all this information for just under £13.00 I'm very very annoyed that we were never told this information in may when Oliver was left in Dundas vet care Oliver will now have to go back into the vet again to have all of this work done when I feel had we been told this information in may the work could have been carried out in may while he was in Dundas vet care at the time to save him more stress by leaving the house. If I didn't have to click on a star to write this review I wouldn't have given them any stars Oliver will now be admitted to the thistle vets to have all of this work done at the end of October as a shift worker I have to be to be organised and this is a suitable time so I will be home to take care of Oliver when he comes home. Honestly, I can't rate these vets highly enough. As an owner of rats, I've had massive difficulties finding a good vet for them, with my first vets being almost totally unknowledgable about rats (I.e.telling me the wheezing noise they made when they had a respiratory infection was "just the noise they make") and when I had to make the difficult decision to have them put to sleep, 1. they used the method of injecting into the abdomen with no anaesthesia, which I discovered later is exceptionally cruel and causes them great pain and distress and 2. As I held and stroked my pet while she passed, I was told by an uncaring vet "She's unconscious now, you can put her down." This could not have been further from the case at this practice. I have had to have several of my rats put to sleep recently and have been met with nothing but compassion and professionalism by the staff. I cannot thank them enough. Read Less

We very recently had to have our dear old cat put to sleep and it was with dignity and patience, no rush and a thorough understanding of his condition was given so we could make the decision knowing it was absolutely for the best. Have been with Dundas Veterinary Group for approx 34 years (maybe longer). Firstly with my Parents Dogs then our own Dogs and Cats. Started of at Dundas Street then moved to Lochend with Audrey Fearn who became more of a friend who would go beyond the call of duty to help our boys and girls. We have always received the upmost Excellent Compassionate Care and Attention for our Girls and Boys. We now have Peter Sharp as our resident Vet at Lochend and he is Sharp by name and nature. He was extremely efficient and quick to diagnoised our Daughters wee Dachshund with Megaesophagus where another vet misdisgnoised. He also was so quick again diagnoised he had Pneumonia very recently, again where another Vet had missed diagnoises. He also showed my Dobie girl compassion when she had DCM and eventually had to be put to sleep. He has proven to be a great asset to Dundas Veterinary Group. Lets not forget the other Vets, Nurses and Receptionists who also go that extra mile to help...you wont find a better Veterinary Surgery in Edinburgh.Read Less

Every day since October 2015, I thank Peter Sharp, Claire, and the lovely folks at Dundas Veterinary Group for saving my cat Brownie. Every. Single. Day. This Christmas especially. My cat swallowed thread and was misdiagnosed by another local vet for five days. By the time I took her to Dundas Vet's her insides were shredded and she was dying. Peter Sharp and his team worked on her for three hours until 10 pm on a Friday. She was critical for a month, and when she had to remain in their care, I was allowed to sit with her even when the vet wasn't open. Mr. Sharp was honest with me about the situation, and I knew, no matter the outcome, he was doing his absolute best. He said that her condition was so severe it tested his skill as a vet, and he did a wonderful job. She had several parts of her bowel removed and a large section of her intestine. In addition, she needed a feeding tube post-surgery. I was so sure she would be left as a cat with special needs. One month later, my cat is perfectly fine. If that doesn't tell you what a wonderful and skilled vet Peter Sharp is than nothing will. She has no problems eating or moving her bowels, and she is back to her happy self. We'll be visiting soon to give our thanks and Christmas wishes in person. But rest assured, if you have any problems with your animals, you have arrived at the best place in Edinburgh. I honestly cannot say enough about these folks. They are super kind, fairly priced, and have a genuine love and concern for animals and their owners.Read Less

Given up with this vet, despite our family having used it for 25 years. I took my dog in with a skin irritation. The vet (always a locum) said they couldn't work out what the problem was so they'd just treat Eric for all three possibilities. I didn't feel like they really interrogated it, just went quickly to the quickest, easiest (and most expensive option). "Not sure so pay for three treatments. Goodbye. Next!" Went back later that year and was over an hour late being seen. No apology forthcoming. Left without settling up and asked that they send the bill to my address. When this arrived and I wrote back saying that I would pay in my own time, because I was a little cheesed off by them etc and I got a snooty reply and told to get stuffed. Took Eric to a new vet elsewhere. The level of attention to detail and genuine interest in his welfare is night and day. New vet even asked to borrow Eric for a walk so they could observe his gait properly. (This vet is in Kirkcubright, 'The Galloway Veterinary Group'). I asked around about Dundas Street and learnt a fair few others felt let down by them too. When it comes to a vet I prefer to find someone whose first interest is the welfare of my pet. I'm sad to say I'm not sure Dundas Street convince me they are. Read Less

As someone with two cats, I've tried other vets but this is by far the nicest, most down-to-earth vet I've found. They're nice to the animals without being overly cutesy, and actually listen when you explain your pet's eccentric behaviour (basically why it won't come out of its carry box!) There's no hard sell on pet food and sundries either which is refreshing. Ok, so your cat/dog/whatever might still hate going regardless, but at least you know they're in good hands.Read Less
