On Holiday in Whitby and poor Max, our Patterdale Terrier( who has a pre-existing skin condition), had a very nasty reaction to something, pollens or something on the beach, it was so bad it necessitated an emergency Sunday morning visit to Simon Beck. Here is a Vet who knows his stuff. Excellent response from Simon with Max beginning to feel better within hours of our visit. A range of medicants prescribed for a few weeks till we see our own vet. Just wish he was a bit closer to where we live. However its the best reason I know to re-visit Whitby and avail ourselves of a first class vet for Max. Read Less

We had the misfortune to require veterinary assistance twice while on holiday in Whitby. From the first telephone contact with Tom, who provides a warm and welcoming greeting and registration to Libby the vet I cannot fault the service we have received. The minor ailment was sorted quickly and the major one which will require ongoing attention was explained very clearly and, as it was deemed more suitable for surgical treatment to be carried out by our vet, x-rays were forwarded for us. I cannot recommend this practice more highly. Thank you. Read Less

Would give less than one star if I could! My friend took their dog to see them today to be told she had a serious infection in her womb which would require her to have the womb fully removed or she may not make it through the night. The vet said the procedure would be £700 which they demadnded up front. My friend explained they didn't have that kind of money just lying around and asked if they could pay £400 there and then and pay the rest in a few days. The vet refused and sent the dog home- probably condemning it to death knowingly. Making comments such as "we are not a charity or a credit agency". Absolutely appalling. They would rather let the dog die than wait just a few days for the remainder of the money in such an emergency when one would think the wellbeing of the animal would be paramount. I don't know how they sleep at night. Read Less

We have used The Beck Veterinary Practice for the last 12 years and have always found them to be polite, friendly and professional. I run a wildlife rehabilitation centre and the vets always offer to treat the many injured and sick wild animals we take into our care. They have excellent farm animal experience as well as treating small domestic animals too. We can not fault their work. They always give our pets the best treatment and go out of their way to ask how animals are doing at home. I had to pay 20.49 to have my cat taken off me. Shocking!!! I gave a home to lovely little black cat. He/she was wandering about in the area so been a cat lover I took a shine to him/her and vice versa. A few weeks later we wanted to make sure he/she had been neutered so we took him to 'Becks' at Loftus. They scanned the cat and it turned out to be a neutered male with a micro chip. They re-traced the original owner and took him away there and then. We were naturally gutted for our loss but pleased also that a worried owner was to be re-united with there pet. The last thing I expected though was to be charged 20.49 for the cat to be returned. That was a double 'wammy' for us. We lost a gorgeous wee cat and had to pay the price in more ways than one.
