I had a bad experience here the last time I took my pet in. I have had good experiences in the past but this one was particularly unpleasant.
I took my guinea pig in before Xmas as he had been a bit lethargic for a week or so. The first question the vet asked me in a brusque manner was 'Is he from Pets at Home?' - Me: no, he's from a guinea pig breader. Vet: How long do your guinea pigs normally live for? 2 or 3 years? Me: no 6 years and as long as 8 on occasions. I immediately felt like she was trying to judge me as a person and how she perceived I might be caring for my guinea pigs. I had never met this person before in my life so why was she immediately jumping to conclusions about how I might look after my pets??
Mid consultation she broke off as she couldn't find the otoscope to look into the guinea pig's mouth - 'Where's the bloody otoscope? I wish people would remember to plug the bloody thing in!'
She concluded that he should have his teeth cut although 'he still had good lateral movement'. Following the consultation I went to reception to ask about costs and possible dates to have the work carried out. I was offered a morning appointment thecnext day which I could not attend as I was on a nightshift that night so I said to the member of staff behind reception 'I can do Thursday' (the day after the appointment I was offered). Before the last at reception had time to answer, the vet shouted out from her consultation room across the hall where other customers were waiting behind me, 'HE MIGHT BE DEAD BY THEN!'
I decided not to have the work done at Tower Vets due to the extremely insensitive and inconsiderate approach of this 'professional'.
Since the appointment it's become apparent he has a cyst on his shoulder which the vet failed to diagnose so we're going elsewhere to have it removed.
I would like to add that all the other staff I spoke to were extremely pleasant and helpful as you would expect in a business that cares for sick animals. It's a real shame when the approach of one person overshadows the good work of others. Read Less
