Spinney Lodge Vets practice dates back to the early 1900's when we were the only practice in Northampton. We were situated in Derngate. We were a traditional mixed practice, where most of our clients were farmers with draught horses and farm livestock. In 1974 the practice re-located to the Kettering Road site where following extensive development became the first and only Veterinary Hospital approved by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons situated in Northampton. \in the early 1990's the practice opened a branch surgery at the Abbey Centre in East Hunsbury, which was followed by the purpose built Wootton Fields Veterinary Surgery opening in 2004.

It has taken me over six months to write this as it is still very raw. In February this year we took our old Beardie girl for examination as she was bringing up fluid often. She had heart and lung checks and we were told she was ok but the next step was to scan her. She got more poorly and we made the difficult decision at 15years to let her go. We were met in the car park by a very young vet who stated in a loud voice that .. you have brought your dog to be euthanised. The other people around us looked as awkward as we felt. “Due to Covid” he took her from me and said he would come and get me after he had “prepared” her. Some fifteen minutes later he called me into a room where Mollie was sitting on a blanket on the floorwith a cafater in her front leg. He emptied the syringe into her and nothing happened. He kept doing this untilI I suggested that the line wasn’t in. He took her away again into another room for around 15/20 mins and brought her back with a second line in her other front leg. Same thing happened..nothing. He then shaved her back leg and emptied some more syringes directly with not her. This time she passed.
The whole experience was a nightmare and still is to this day. My lovely old girl who had given so much and been so well cared for ended her time at the hands of an amateur and in confusion and discomfort. I realise now that he took her away because he didn’t want me to see his incompetence and I lost time with my precious girl. Putting a family member to sleep is an important thing and needs special handling and care. In conversation with the clinical director I was told that he was usually mentored which tells me has wasn’t competent. I felt I let her down.
Sue Atkins was brilliant 8 months earlier and despite Covid gave Lizzie, Mollie’s sister a beautiful and professional ending in our garden. Sadly she has left the practice and I was refused a garden visit.
I have now, after 26 years with the practice changed to a different vet practice with my existing dog. Read Less

My dog Sophie was diagnose with a Mast cell tumour back in January 2018. The tumour was at one stage very aggressive and somewhat unpredictable. Shes been on various types of medication and has had one dose of chemotherapy. Sophies a 13 year old black labrador and she has been remarklably strong and is currently having on going treatment.
Spinney Lodge Veterinary Hospital come highly recommended. Everyone thats come into contact with sophie have been absolutely brillant. Rachael Chan has been the main vet looking after her. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable and has often said that she thinks of Sophie in her spare time. If plan A doesn't work then there's always plan B.
Everyones been really nice and they really do have empathy. I've had Sophie since she was a pup and means everything to me and my family.
Thank you to Spinney Lodge, that Sophie is leading a happy, pain free and a good quality of life. You wound'nt think anything was wrong with her. Read Less

When we complained they would not listen, could not provide proof of what was paid for when they took money from card.
